  1. so are billy wagner & roy oswalt. if he's got the arm his size should not be an issue.
  2. i dont see why rotoworld says it's unlikely to happen. aram came back for much less than he reportedly could have gotten elsewhere.

  4. What makes Walker more valuable than Ward? Ward had the better year last year by far. Before that, Walker had the better years-but if Ward regresses back to his usual year and Walker keeps declining, then Ward will likely be slightly better. Both can play 3 positions-Walker the 3 in the infield, Ward the two in the OF and 1B. What is there to justify eating a million by dropping Ward and signing Walker? Please read what I wrote. I said, pretty clearly, that it was worth considering. I did not say that Walker was better than Ward. You should always look to improve your team, and if Walker is an upgrade, then it might be worth it. I remember Walker being really bad as a pinch hitter for us though. I don't see the value in him right now for us. There are no guarantees of Ward repeating last year. Pinch hitting numbers aren't very reliable in predicting future performance. Just got back from ST, and the only player who looked bad, and I mean like not ready to contribute bad, was Ward. He looked injured and/or out of shape. Either he is simply not ready to start the season physically due to lack of training or there is something wrong with him. His numbers this spring reflect what was undeniable to the naked eye. Here's hoping that he's okay. If he's not, and the Cubs pass on Walker, Floyd should be able to fill in as the back-up 1B, but it would be nice to have more than one lefty bat off the bench. If I'm Hendry, I'm having a talk with the trainer about Daryl, opening up a bottle of wine and thinking long and hard about whether or not to swallow my pride and contact Walker's agent. too bad coats is injured. he would have been next in line if there is an issue with ward's health.
  5. Wilken = draft day god Can't wait to see what he can do with the 3rd and, what is it now, 48th(?) picks. Boy do I want Wieters. Just out of need. Samardzija and Veal (with Pawelek and Gallagher in tow) are a nice group of arms. Adding a catcher like Wieters would sure be nice. Another arm wouldn't hurt, but... Isnt there some question as to Wieters can catch at the major league level? Thats the only thing remotely negative I have heard about him. If that's the only negative, I'll take it. Defense can be improved, but good hitting catchers the likes of Wieters are rare. With Barrett's future with the team uncertain and no standout prospects in the organization at that position, Wieters would make a lot of sense with the 3rd pick. if fox can get on track and be an average defender i think with his bat he might be considered a standout prospect. chris robinson had a great 45 ab's in daytona and is a very good defender and might also qualify if he can keep up his hot hitting.
  6. there is no reason to be concerned about lilly either. he's had a great spring so far and his new found sinker seems to be effective. gotta love the 4 bb and zero hr's in 19 ip. i think he will prove to be a very solid starter for the cubs. A good spring is never a good reason not to be worried about someone. i disagree.
  7. . even if he is finished pitching in the majors, i think kerry wood has long past the stage of having to ever work again to earn a living.
  8. from what i've been able to read about him he will be going to college anyway so he won't be entering the 2007 draft.
  9. if he keeps improving the hitting he can wear dresses and only talk in pig latin for all i care.

  11. the cubs dont need either of these guys right now imo. they have derosa, theriot & cedeno along with ep, moore & fontenot in the minors.

  13. wow, you predicted that wood would be hurt? you're obviously very smart. Do you feel better now? a little. it's a message board. nobody's posts accomplish anything.[/quote] the post of the year imo!!!
  14. what does his height have to do with anything? burgess is also "only" 5'11" and is the top power prospect in the draft. btw, russell hit .276 in 2006 and payne hit .356

  16. No-7 man pen, Pagan is gone. The pen will be Howry, Erye, Dempster, Ohman, Cotts, Wuertz, and either Guzman or Cherry. got it. thanks. wonder if they will trade him to the fish as rumored.
  17. so who is the odd man out now along with perez? are they going with an 6 man pen so cherry goes to iowa and pagan makes the team?
  18. there is little to no chance hendry will trade murton.
  19. that depends on what you mean by power arm. hill tops out at around 92 but he will strike out a lot of hitters. if they stay healthy, both z & hill should have over 200 k's in 2007.
  20. Huh? i mean perhaps they were involved in drugs which caused them to steal for $ to buy said drugs.
  21. i think it's millers job to lose at this point. the big question is with wuertz back and wood hurt, who gets the open pen spot-guzman or cherry? cherry has obviously earned it over guzman and it would be a shame imo to send him back to the minors. if dempster tanks and marmol cant find his control cherry might end up closing some games for the cubs.
  22. murton has been fine and if jones can throw at all he should be ok in right. soriano is the only unknown imo.
  23. I could live with that OPS if he's putting up his .355 career OBP, or better yet, the .365-.367 he had in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Seconded. Who cares if all he does is walk and get singles. We have other guys to get extra base hits. Eckstein's was only .694 last year. Yeah, if Theriot can get on base in the upper .300's, I don't see why his lack of power should be a concern. My point is, we already know Derosa's not going to break .340 OBP. Why not give the kid with more upside a chance? We know that he is not going to break .340? Considering last year was .357, I'm not sure how we know he's not going to break that-even if he has a lesser year this year he still has a shot of breaking that number, and even though he's not hitting well at all he's having a good OBP spring. He did that @ 31 years old, playing in one of the best hitting environments in baseball. Last time he was in the NL, he posted .293 even though he's not hitting much and it's only spring training but he does have 8 bb in 29 ab's so far along with a .405 obp. if he stays healthy i dont see why he couldnt put up .350 & .450 for a .800 ops in 2007.
  24. Floyd's been brutal in the field this spring. does floyd have a ntc? maybe they should trade him instead of jones.
