  1. On ESPN Radio yesterday (I believe Cowherd, when he was doing around the globe) a few of the guys were very critical of the Bears receivers. They were saying that even though Orton is not good, the WR never get any space, and leave him little to work with. They said they noticed it from the sidelines, but never saw it on TV, because obviously, they don't show everything. They said that Orton has thrown some good passes, but a lot of them look terrible due to the WR, and he has to throw away so many passes for the same reason. Oline is doing a great job, WRs are not. Just thought I would throw that out there.
  2. The old Cowboys vs. Indians thing. While the rivalry isn't nearly as old as Bears/Packers, it has had more success. The Bears and Packers have been pretty bad teams for a long time. Both were terrible from the late 60's until the Bears in the mid-80s. And the Bears have been mostly bad since. The Pack was bad from their SuperBowl teams in the late 60's until the Brett Favre era, and are now headed back down. At the same time, the Cowboys and Redskins have often played with more at stake, combining for 13 SuperBowls with 8 victories since the 60s. The Bears/Pack have more of a history, and I think the Skins/Boys rivalry is losing some steam w/o Landry and Gibbs, but I think it can be argued either way. It is a bit more than Cowboys and Indians. The man who originally owned the Cowboys had planned on buying the Redskins and moving them to Dallas. When the 'Skins owner found out he was gonna move the team, he pulled out of the deal. In return who had planned on buying the 'Skins bought the rights to the Redskins fight song "Hail to the Redskins". After all of that, the man who wanted to move the 'Skins ended up getting his own franschise, a new one, and it was going to be established in Dallas (which was his goal with the Redskins). Well every NFL owner, except one, approved the deal. The one who held out-the Redskins owner. Do the man who was going to form the Cowboys sold the Redskins owner back the rights to the song, and the Redskins owner approved the move. However the hatred between the two never subsided. A few years later the Cowboys management planned on releasing a bunch of chickens onto the field during halftime of a Cowboys/Skins game, in DC, the plot was discovered, and it never happened, but that is the basis of the rivalry. I think I have that right. It has been awhile since I heard the story, but I used to work with a die-hard Skins fan, and he brought in a newspaper article from many years ago that had that story in it.
  3. They haven't exactly been setting the league on fire in the entire history of the franchise, especially in the past few years. Katrina had very little to do with the fact that they're not putting a whole lot of talent on the field. They just plain suck this year. Yeah but there's losing, and then there's what this team is doing. Head coach is trying to quit but isn't being allowed by the owner... starting QB is benched for the rest of the season. They've been a traveling circus between Baton Rouge and San Antonio with poor practice facilities, and had a "home" game in East Rutherford, NJ. They have normally been at least somewhat competitive, but this year there's just too much going against them. Just thought I would mention that each player associated with the Saints, practice squad, IR, etc, are all getting a 40k bonus, which was paid for by all the other NFL players, for the adversity they went through this season. I understand they had a hard time, but for Brooks to come out and blame everything of everyone else was wrong.
  4. Due to his remarks? How about due to the fact that he sucks? That never stopped them from playing him before, unfortunately. You did hear what he said this week, right?
  5. And Brooks is now benched for the rest of the season, due to his remarks this week
  6. Maybe he just realized that Arkansas' football team sucks. Why would any big-time recruit want to play for them? That is what I didn't get, all I can think of is that he is from Arkansas.
  7. Tim Tebow, arguably the most sought after QB recruit committed to FL yesterday. Mustain officially decommitted from Arkansas this week, interesting situation there. Arkansas hired Mustain's HS school to come coach him at Arkansas, and to make room they fired the QB coach, who was one of the reasons Mustain wanted to go there, and the reason he cited for his decommit--although it was more than likely because Cutcliffe went to UT. Here is a link to the Rivals.com commitment list.
  8. The Downtown Athletic Club has just announced that Brady Quinn has been awarded the 2006 Heisman Trophy. *pumps fists* Gets rid of a Heisman AND a national title contender. Pfft, it's a battle for second place after Chase Daniel. Mo Drew disagrees. So does AD. Wow, I totally forgot he existed (and UCLA played OU!). He'd be my #1 candidate for now, ahead of Quinn. I forgot too. I agree, he has a very good chance. How does Oklahoma look for next year?
  9. The Downtown Athletic Club has just announced that Brady Quinn has been awarded the 2006 Heisman Trophy. *pumps fists* Gets rid of a Heisman AND a national title contender. I was thinking the same thing. Nothing on line yet, but I hope it is true.
  10. ESPNNews just reported that Young will turn pro after this year!!
  11. No Gus Ferotte (sp)? Any man that bangs his head on a wall in celebration; giving himself a concussion that forces him to miss a game, is a genius in my book.

I was thinking the same thing
  13. A lot of people were calling Oklahoma the best college team ever. A lot of people said it would be the best college game ever. A lot of people said it would come down to the wire. I hear the same stuff this year. How easily people forget... I really do think USC will KILL them. They have an ability to just shut teams down when they need to, and seem able to score at will. They have trailed a lot this year, and have given up a lot of points and yards, but those were all in the first half. It was almost like USC had to make it fun for themselves. When they wanted to they clamped down, and begin picking teams apart. I must admit that I have not seen Texas play more than 1 game this year (the Colorado game, 2nd one) and I have seen USC a few times. Perhaps I am grossly underestimating Texas, but I just don't see them as being able to hang with USC, at all. They will be outcoached and outplayed IMO.
  14. I dont think it will be as bad as last years game, but I dont think it will be close either. It all depends on whether or not Texas can take advantage of USC up the middle. IMB you may know this, was the line on last years game USC -3? I think it was, but can't remember for sure.
  15. The more I think about this, the more I think USC will blow Texas out. I see a title game much like last years.
  16. I really hope he stays. I do think, however, that either way USC will lose at least 2 games next year, maybe more. I have no doubt their run will be over no later than Thanksgiving weekend of next year. :D
  17. Those darn computers, and their favoritism  I think looking just at a teams win/loss record is not the best way to evaluate a team. Like I said earlier, if your reasoning were used, it would be Oregon v TCU in a bowl game. I am not going to get into this whole Oregon getting the shaft thing. It is in nearly every weeks football thread. However I don't think that a top 4 team from a BCS conference, and top 6 team from a non-BCS conference is outdated. In fact the top 6 rule is fairly new, in order to assure that teams that don't play in a major conference get a chance. And do you think Oregon would really beat, PSU, OSU, Texas, LSU, Miami, V Tech, Georgia, Michigan, USC, or countless other team from any of the conferences you mentioned. I find that a little hard to believe. Because of the BCS we will never know how Oregon would have done. I also think that this arguement will happen even if there is a playoff as the 5th, 9th or 17th team that isn't picked will feel left out. I agree. It is part of what is great about College football. There is always a team that deserves more than they got. It will not change with a playoff. A playoff will be better, but then the arugment will just turn to what team got left out of the playoffs. I love CFB!

  19. To reiterate: ND was not an at-large team. They got an AUTOMATIC bid by being ranked in the top 6 of the BCS, the same way that any other non-BCS conference team has to get in (like Utah last year). Yes, ND was not an at-large. Nor was OSU. They were automatic bids, just as FSU, Georgia, USC, Texas, WVU, and PSU were. There were no at large bids this year. Every team that was picked, was picked because they were guarenteed a spot per the BCS. And as you said, Raisin, there is nothing one can do about the automatic bids, so why are people still complaining about Oregon not going? There were no at-larges this year, they were all automatic. How were they all automatic? Georgia & FSU won their championship games, PSU & OSU are in the same conference and WV won thier conference. Ummm because winning your conference or conference title game gives you an automatic berth. As does finishing in the top 4 for BCS conference teams, or top 6 for non-BCS teams. Oregon may have an argument, but I'm getting really annoyed with people stating it as fact that Oregon belongs over ND. In the game against their one common opponent ND lead with 1 second left and OU got rolled. It's not such an absurdity to put some weight in that. Correct. ND and OSU were automatic bids because of where they placed in the BCS polls. Oregon got left out because they were in a BCS conference and did not win their conference or finish top 4. ND being in a non-BCS conference (independant) got an automatic bid because they were in the top 6. No one chose any school over another school for the BCS. They were all automatic bids. Ryan, I hate sticking up for Oregon, but they also played Stanford and Washington, and fared a little better than ND did in those games. I believe between the three common opponents, Oregon beat them by about 10 points more than ND did.
  20. To reiterate: ND was not an at-large team. 21. No I didn't forget, I mrele poitned out how broken the system is and how this continues to be proven. Regardless, I don't understand how ND is ranked higher then Oregon anyhow, but that is a different rant ND is not ranked higher than Oregon in the BCS or the Coaches Poll (the 2 that count.) I really think that this year has turned out better than years in the past. 6 of the teams going are in the top 7. Of the other two FSU is a joke, and ACC may lose their automatic bid due it, and WVU is ranked 11th but should probably be higher. I really find more of a problem with the automatic conference bid than anything. Remember, while everyone talks bout NDs advantages, if they lose more than two game they are automatically out, and so is pretty much and non BCS school. A 4 loss FSU is more of a joke than anything.
  22. Wow, that awesome. There is a good chance I read it if it was on NDnation. Do you post there?
  23. Yea, but the previous guy had Holtz using him in the option more than anything. Clausen would be awesome, I think it will be between USC and ND, and I really hope ND wins. here is an article about Mustain, but it says he will probably stay with Arkansas or go to Tennessee. I can't find it right now, but Mustain did meet with Weis over the last weekend, so who knows. Could you imagine being in HS and having this much attention payed to your every move?
  24. I didn't know Hass won. That is weird. I saw JoePa got coach of the year. I think he deserved it. I also read on a different board that Jones may be hurt (rotator cuff) and they may be looking to move him to WR, which now makes Mustain a lot more appealing to the Irish. From everything I read, the kid is unbelievable. If he leaves Arkansas and comes to SB, that would be great.
  25. Did anyone watch the ESPN awards tonight? I missed them but heard on a ND board that Paterno said to Herbstreit "It's nice to be interviewed by an Ohio State guy that can speak English" Wondered if anyone else saw that. Also a few OSU jokes. I hope that no one gets offended by them. A guy in a bar leans over to the guy next to him and asks, “Wanna hear a OSU joke?” The guy next to him replies, “Well, before you tell that joke, you should know something. I’m 6’ tall, 200 lbs., and I’m a osu graduate. The guy sitting next to me is 6’2”, weighs 225, and he’s a osu graduate. The fella next to him is 6’5” tall, weighs 250, and he’s a osu graduate. Now, you still wanna tell that joke? The first guy replies: “Naw, not if I’m gonna have to explain it three times.” Members of the OSU football team were placed in a remedial English class. “Because we are all new on campus we are going to start with the basics,” the professor explained. “Does anyone know what comes after a sentence?” All of the players raised their hands. “The appeal!” they all shouted with pride. Coach Tressel was recently offered the head coaching job of the Detroit Lions, he turned it down because he said he can't work with a salary cap Also NDistops got a question for ya: I read this I didn't hear about them dropping Jones or Frazer. You know anything about this?
