Getting rid of Marmol's contract wasn't value in itself, because he can still be a somewhat worthwhile bullpen asset. The value was just freed capital to do other things with the money. If you can pay less for Haren then, it kind of evens out. I agree, but if you can pay less for Haren, that probably means there is something wrong with him.
