  1. The only problem would be the lack of Pat on the radio. Just simulcast it like the Blackhawks used to do.
  2. 2 hours, 14 minutes game time. Wow. Bring Greg Maddux out of retirement and we'll be finishing games in under 2 hours
  3. Eh. To be fair, if the refs had any idea what a goaltend is, the game wouldn't have even made it to overtime. There was some wonky stuff called on both sides, though none more blatant than that goaltend. I'm sure you can point to several " if that didn't happen then..." calls in a double OT game. That is true, but the problem is it wasn't just one goaltend. There was the blatant basket interference not called on Dickinson, and then an incorrect goaltend called on Hawkins. Within a short period, that was a 4 point swing just on missed goaltending calls alone. In general though, college officiating seems really bad. Refs anticipate or hunt for calls at certain times, them completely ignore them at other times. The charge on Shannon at the very beginning of the game was clearly not a charge, but that ref was just waiting to call it. Then later in the game there was a really weak moving screen called on Michigan that might have been a foul by the letter of the rules but isn't called 90% of the time. And don't get me started on the flop rule - That just needs to go entirely because it is nearly impossible to get right. Yeah, they aren't going to get everything right, but they sure do get a lot wrong.

  5. Pretty much this, but also while continuing to gobble up real estate and spin it like like they are doing Cubs fans a favor by doing so.
  6. I wouldn't. He missed way too much time last year and we have other guys who can fill in for a short stretch. I would rather Davis get some more time at AAA and hope that he forces the issue later in the season.
  7. Who is the "them" in this sentence? The Blackhawks or the Rangers?
  8. What about this? The way we do rumors works really well for us from a technical/SEO perspective. https://brewerfanatic.com/forums/forum/6-transaction-rumors-proposals/ The "proposals" part is kind of scary. Does that mean we have to listen to everyone's wackadoo trade ideas?
  9. If anyone really needs to contact me, they can find me in IRC. (By the way, I do still remember my ICQ number)
  10. A few of my thoughts: 1. Amateur Baseball - Maybe this just be consolidated into Minor Leagues? The Amateur Baseball subforum is essentially nothing more than an annual draft thread, which would seem to fit in with an expanded Minor League forum. 2. Transactions - I could go either way on this one and can't really make a great argument for keeping it separate. 3. Social & Rants - I think Rants was intended as a place to complain and express personal opinions about anything that comes to mind, where Social has somewhat more structured discussions on various topics. Yeah, Rants could probably be considered Social, but do we want them cluttering up the other more relevant threads?
  11. Yeah, it seems highly unlikely that he would be ready for Opening Day. Not a great start when this is one of the guys we were counting on to have a breakout season in order to have a reasonable chance at competing.
  12. Probably not, unfortunately, but I will look into it at some point. The upside here is that our mobile experience on the new platform is pretty good, better than what NSBB has right now. Yeah, I know that is usually the case, and I'm sure the mobile UI is much better now. The thing that is lost for me is multi-tasking. I don't know how many times I have started typing a post in a mobile browser, ended up getting distracted and searched for something else or hit a link that opened in my Chrome session, and lost everything I was typing. Maybe that's just me not knowing how to properly multi-task in Chrome on my phone, but Tapatalk makes it so much easier since I can browse and post in the forum independently of any web browser activity.
  13. The new software has a robust activity tool that many of you will surely want to explore. It has all sorts of settings and can be quite granular based on your own interests. And you can save these settings to be quickly-toggled options for future use. https://brewerfanatic.com/discover/unread/ I know I'm in the minority here, but I really like using Tapatalk to browse the forums on my mobile device(s). Any thoughts on whether you will be able to preserve Tapatalk support with whatever new forum software is going to be used?
  14. The problem with all the subforums it that you end up with a lot of inactive subforums. I would rather have broader forum categories with the activity consolidated.
  15. I vote we go the opposite direction. Everything goes in the Brian Roberts thread.
  16. I've read enough of this community's posts to know for certain I don't want to spawn that particular chatbot. That is exactly what you would say. :D
  17. There is also the scenario where the stated and actual intentions of the new owner are entirely different. I'm not suggesting that is the case here, and the new owners appear to have a track record of managing similar sites, but I have seen this sort of transaction go down in a way that irreparably damages the site. One particular example that comes to mind for me is the NintendoAge video game forum that I used to frequent for mostly retro video game news, chat, trading, etc. It was a rather popular retro gaming forum that had been around for a long time and it was still thriving at the time its sale was announced. The announcement came along with assurances from the new owner that they would be making some changes but would continue to maintain the website in much the same way as it already existed. After the sale closed, the forums were almost immediately shut down and redirected to a new page with a very bare bones forum that had obviously been thrown together in about 30 minutes. That forum never got updated or moderated and eventually disappeared without any word from the new owner. The community basically dissolved and presumably migrated to various different other websites, but as far as I know nothing came close to replacing the original site. It appears what happened is that the person who bought the website never had any intention of keeping the forums running, but simply wanted access to the game pricing and other data that had been accumulated by the community over a long period of time. I remember reading somewhere that the site's original owner never would have sold the site if he knew the purchaser's true intentions, but that ship had already sailed. Despite that previous experience, I think we have to give Brock and crew the benefit of the doubt and hope that a majority of people here are willing to stick around through the changes. Obviously they are doing this for a reason, and making money is almost certainly part of it, but hopefully that can be done without sacrificing everything that currently exists. I don't think the situations are analogous. We have no commodity to sell other than comments about jorts, Simpson memes, and laments about how stupid we all were when we were younger. Perhaps mining years of our miscellaneous post data is all part of a larger plan to create the ultimate AI chatbot?

  19. Are you saying we’re all gonna start dying off soon? Well, not ALL of us. But the ones who don't will become even more curmudgeonly than we already are.
  20. The hive mind has spoken.
  21. How will Pat get his forty dozen ad reads in with fewer time between pitches? "That pitch clock violation was brought to you by Rolex. Rolex - Live for greatness."
  22. Thanks Tim for keeping this place running over all the years. I recognize that is has been largely a thankless job and you could have thrown in the towel at any time. I would consider myself more of an under-the-radar B-Tier poster at best, but I really enjoy the small community that has been built here. Whenever news breaks (Cubs, other sports, or current events), this is usually the first place I go for reactions. I'm not sure what that says about me, but I appreciate the site's collective wisdom, or lack thereof, nonetheless. I truly hope the new ownership can deliver on their promises to preserve and grow this community. None of us are getting any younger, and it certainly won't hurt to inject some new blood. Hopefully that can be done in a way that builds upon what has made this place so great. Until then...
  23. Totally; this place was even more fun when there was a ton of traffic. You end up with a little something for everyone. And if we can somehow combine more traffic with a server that doesn't choke every time something notable happens, Mushroom Kingdom here we come!
  24. My hot take from Spring Training thus far is that they need to figure out something else for PCA's name on the back of his jersey. Having Crow-Armstrong curve down and around both sides of the number looks ridiculous. It would be cool if they just put "PCA" on there, but I suppose that may open a can of worms for players to have nicknames on their uniforms. But there must be something that can be done to make Crow-Armstrong look better.
