  1. He can't get sent back down again, right? Either Torrens or Rios has to go.
  2. Oh, it's just me being an old man. Whenever I'm browsing a news website, any article that pops up a video is pretty much an instant skip for me. I just want to read about the topics, not be fed videos about them.
  3. I definitely don't expect any Wild Card spots to come out of the AL Central, but if there's any division in baseball that a team could back into a playoff spot with under 90 wins, that division is the most likely candidate. Still rather unlikely, but at least they aren't 13 games out in the AL East.
  4. Is it fair to call that a "fixer upper"? I feel like that doesn't really do it justice.
  5. Is there any point to keeping him in Myrtle Beach any longer? Low-A doesn't seem to be any challenge whatsoever.
  6. That's a really bad division though. Obviously if the Sox continue playing anything like they have been over the first few weeks of the season, it won't matter. On the other hand, if they can get Tim Anderson back and just start playing slightly above .500 baseball for awhile, it isn't crazy to think they could be right back in the race by early summer.
  7. I have been impressed with Velazquez so far this season. That was a fantastic at bat.
  8. I honestly never expected him to continue being a 25+ HR guy. I won't be surprised if he ends up closer to 15 for most of his deal, but that's ok if he does everything else well (and at least starts hitting doubles).
  9. Too soon to start talking about an extension to the extension?
  10. That is a really amazing stretch of likely winnable games. I guess it makes sense though that it had to come sooner or later. Ignoring the A's, I keep looking at the upcoming schedule and thinking "When do the Cubs get a break from playing all these good teams?"
  11. Remember when Fulmer was supposed to be this year's David Robertson? To be fair, I think it might have been Rick Sutcliffe who said that.
  12. I haven't really seen enough of him to develop a strong opinion. He might be an ok baseball player in the right situation, but the part that makes it weird is how the Cubs went out of their way to keep him on the team despite it clearly being a non-optimal fit for their roster. It feels almost like he is a Rule 5 guy that the Cubs are trying to stash on the bench to avoid losing him.
  13. That's not really anything new, but just wait until they are on the jerseys too.
  14. I've always been partial to the '47 Brand Franchise style hats. Since everyone has been talking about Pelicans hats, here's a nice one. https://pelicans.milbstore.com/collections/all-caps/products/myrtle-beach-pelicans-47-brand-2tone-alternate-2-logo-clean-up-cap?variant=30894608646219
  15. Despite the lack of power, Swanson has still been pretty good overall. He is striking out an awful lot lately though.
  16. He has options. When/if Hendricks is ready, and if everyone else in the rotation is healthy, Wesneski will almost certainly be the guy who gets sent down.
  17. Get those guys off the broadcast. That was really annoying.
  18. Were there and other angles of the Smyly/Gomes collision shown in the TV broadcast? I only saw the one replay and I can't determine whether either Smyly or Gomes actually had a chance to throw the runner out.
  19. Either the Cubs think Mervis still has things to work on in AAA or they simply don't view him as the answer at 1B. If they thought Mervis was going to come up and make an immediate positive impact, I don't think they would be holding him back on account of undeserved loyalty to Hosmer. There is a third possibility that the Cubs view Mervis so highly that he was only being kept down for service time reasons, but they learned from the Kris Bryant situation that it is better to wait beyond the exact service time date to give themselves plausible deniability. I really don't think that's the case for a guy who is already 25 and not a top tier prospect, but you never know.
  20. I agree somewhat with the second part of your statement. We may be overreacting to a few bad outtings and prematurely writing him off, since it is still relatively early and we have a limited 2023 sample. Where I disagree is that the difference was with one swing of the bat. His whole outing was a mess yesterday, and that one swing of the bat was the result of everything else that came before it.
  21. I stand corrected. Michael Fulmer wipes some guys out, but when he doesn't wipe them out, they wipe him out.
