  1. And that run differential is a flawed, albeit interesting, measure of a team's ability.
  2. I feel like we've been at this place multiple times over the past month or so, right on the cusp of being in the race but ultimately unable to sustain the run. Well, now they have one week do show they can sustain it. If the Cubs end up 5 or fewer games out of first by the trade deadline, then staying the course plus a few minor acquisitions may be a viable option.
  3. I thought the same thing yesterday, along with "How is he still batting .236 when he seemingly only gets a hit 1 out of every 10 at bats."
  4. I agree with everything except PCA. When PCA is ready, finding another spot for Bellinger is a good problem to have. Maybe he plays 1B full time. Maybe a corner OF spot can be opened up down the road via a trade. If the injury and performance history scares the Cubs away from a long term deal, so be it, but if they believe Bellinger is likely to continue performing anywhere near his current level, they absolutely shouldn't let PCA stand in the way.
  5. Ah, ok. I hadn't turned the game on yet, so seeing Owens out of context I was thinking it was someone completely new. I know I'm in the minority, but I'm not a Mowins fan. I do think she does a very respectable job of announcing, but something about her tone doesn't quite connect with me. Saying that, that is also the same way I initially felt about Len Kasper, so would I get used to it if she was in the booth every day? Probably.
  6. Regarding Bellinger and the QO - I completely understand why the compensation pick is valuable to the Cubs, and also how the Cubs can straddle the line of "trying to compete" while still receiving something in return. On the other hand, Bellinger is not Contreras, and all it takes is one semi-aggressive team to blow away the value of a comp pick. I think people are being a little too quick to assume that isn't likely to happen. Bellinger may very well bring back a Top 100 prospect type, and that isn't something the Cubs are going to get with a comp pick.
  7. Contreras, yes, but I don't buy that the Cubs were ever serious about trading Happ. I think they would have made a deal if the right one presented itself, but they were more inclined to stay pat and explore their options in the off-season (leading to the extension).
  8. Coincidentally, it's the same 40% that was signed this past off-season.
  9. Well, it would make sense just by the nature of Bellinger having the comp pick tied to him that the Cubs aren't in a position where they HAVE to trade him.
  10. I have no idea if Bellinger can keep doing this or if he's just getting really lucky, but in the past month he seems to have perfected poking the ball through any opening on the field.
  11. Fulmer survived 2 innings with only 1 run. I suppose that is as good as outcome as what could have been expected.
  12. I don't like to admit it, but I love these Cardinals uni's.
  13. Holy hell, that was bad. Gifted two strikes, then he had to swing at a third pitch in the same location. So effectively, all 3 pitches were on the ump.
  14. My high school baseball coach always used to yell "lose the hat!" when running after a fly ball in practice. I never really understood what he meant by that, but seeing Jordan Walker's hat pop off there, I guess that was it.
  15. Apple TV is broken. It just glitched and showed Mastrobuoni hitting a home run. I'm going to reload the stream.
  16. That problem isn't limited to smaller markets, although you could argue it is a necessity for them whereas it is a self-imposed limitation for others.
  17. Does baseball really need more revenue sharing though? A glance at the standings shows there are plenty of smaller markets doing just fine.
