  1. I think there is a world in which the Cubs can trade Stroman and still make the playoffs. Can they trade them both and still make it? That is extremely unlikely. With that said, if that hypothetical scenario occurs where the Cubs trade Stroman and do make the playoffs, then the deal almost looks worse. On one hand - Yay, we got something for Stroman and still made the playoffs! On the other hand - We made the playoffs, but now don't have our best pitcher in a short series, so what exactly are we trying to do here?
  2. Yikes. The AL Central is really bad, but not THAT bad. The White Sox have to play .667 baseball over the next 60 games just to get back to .500
  3. Like I was saying earlier, if they can win tomorrow and then take 3 out of 4 from the Cardinals, they would be a game over .500 coming up to the trade deadline. More importantly, they would probably be less than 5 games back in the division and even closer to the Wild Card (although behind more teams). That would start to make things really interesting. That's a little cart before the horse though, because winning 4 out of the next 5 to get to that point is far from a likely outcome.
  4. I don't see David Ross as a guy who would take kindly to that sort of interference from the front office.
  5. I know this is dangerous to look ahead, but hypothetically if the Cubs win tonight and tomorrow, then taking 3 out of 4 from St. Louis would get them OVER .500 with a day to go before the deadline. At this point, I think everything, including adding, is still on the table.
  6. If he continues anywhere near this level for the rest of the season, absolutely yes.
  7. "Had to wait for the coin to come down.". Really good line from JD on the late strike call.
  8. How do you find out about autograph sessions? I'm a Season Ticket holder and nobody has ever given me information about any of them.
  9. I never place "to hit a home run" bets. A few weeks ago while on the train to Wrigley, I placed an impulse bet on Bellinger to hit a home run. He hit 2 that night. Today I was watching pregame coverage on Marquee and they had a promo for Dinger Tuesdays. I thought, "I have a feeling Dansby is going to hit one tonight" and got my bet in just a few minutes before game time. He has 2 (and counting). So my question is, who should I bet on tomorrow night?
  10. How are those baserunner "oven mitts" allowed? That thing looks like it extends inches past Nico's fingertips.
  11. I have to believe they were planning on the overslot, otherwise they would have been leaving a significant chunk of money on the table that could have been used to upgrade one of their other picks.
  12. I guess it's good to hold out and be the last guy to sign. It must make for an interesting conversation in the front office, whether a team draws a hard line and stays at/around slot even though they have money to spare, or do they just give the guy everything they have left.
  13. I'm perfectly fine with this as an option for $20/month. Is it a great value? No, probably not, but it's a legitimate alternative to a cable TV subscription where we didn't have one before. If I ever end up without a live TV provider, it's either this or MLB.tv through a VPN, and the VPN can be problematic.
  14. If something showed up on post-draft medicals that made the Cubs reconsider "redeeming" that comp pick for damaged goods, then it is an understandable decision to punt the pick to next year. If, on the other hand, the Cubs want to sign him but his demands are higher than the slight overslot that is likely being offered, that would be an uncharacteristic miscalculation on the Cubs' side. Of course, he may still sign today and all this will be moot.
  15. Wasn't this a historically deep draft? If so, wouldn't next year's pick be worse, all things considered?
  16. I have no idea, but without knowing exactly what happened, I think it's too early to speculate on his basketball future.
  17. Apparently the Cubs woke a sleeping giant. (pun intended)
