  1. And the baseball gods deliver a massive gift to the Cubs. All 3 competitors lose and the Cubs are back solidly on the last Wild Card spot.
  2. Bednar comes in and walks the first guy on 4 pitches. Buckle up.
  3. Hopefully that is where he stays next year. If multiple injuries force him into the rotation, so be it, but that shouldn't be part of the plan at all.
  4. You're talking about the difference between like the 18th pick and the 20th pick in the draft. That isn't nothing, but it's pretty much nothing.
  5. Just when I thought you couldn't get any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!
  6. If so, I have to imagine he is on speed dial tomorrow. Any sign off shakiness from Taillon and they simply can't risk sticking with him.
  7. Not necessarily, but arguing balls and strikes is futile. MAYBE if it was earlier in the game and he wanted to try to plant a seed with the umpire for the remaining innings, but it was a bit late for that.
  8. "That's not a good team." - David Ross in reference to the Pirates That's not something you will hear a manager say out loud very often, if ever.
  9. 2 errors tonight and both of them were killers.
  10. So Morel would have come up and swung harder? It's the bottom of the 9th of a close game in a playoff race. I don't think "lighting a fire" is a real thing in that situation.
  11. It's pretty pointless arguing balls and strikes. As much as I would have loved to see him blow his lid on that umpire, what does it actually accomplish?
  12. "With 9 to play, they're right in it." I suppose that is technically true, but it sure doesn't feel like it.
  13. Oh look, another inning where the Cubs would have taken the lead if the bullpen hadn't sucked in the top half.
  14. And I think we all knew that, but got sucked into believing when the team went on their run (largely carried by one guy who probably won't be here next year). Ultimately, they are who we thought they were.
  15. Yep. Maybe it wouldn't have made any difference, but he gambled and got torched.
  16. At least Jed gets to come out at the end of the year and blame the collapse on injuries.
  17. Your closer down the stretch ladies and gentlemen.
  18. In fairness, it "should" have been runners on second and third and nobody out, but Happ's ill-advised throw triggered the craziness that followed.
