  1. I'd put a friendly wager on Spivey outproducing the Cubs 2nd base position if he's healthy the season. Especially if it holds true that Perez, Hairston, and Walker will be competing at spring training or platooning.
  2. Obviously this is all speculation and the health of a team will dictate where they will fall in terms of wins. On that note, we are relying more than ever on Rolen's production in the lineup. If he falters coming back from surgery, if he is still injured, or if he's a shell of his former self, the Cards are in a lot of trouble. What I don't get is the pundits all mentioning losing Morris, arguably our worst starter for the second year in a row, a big cause for concern? If Ponson starts, than I can see the downgrade, but if Reyes is in the rotation, most knowledgeable Cards fans would view it as an upgrade. Either way, if you're predicting the demise of a team that won 100 games based on a downgrade of their fifth starter, I'd say that's a stretch. If the pundits would ask me, I'd could point out at least three bigger areas of concern about the Cards than losing Morris as our fifth starter.
  3. Give us Reyes and you can have Jacque Jones! Cards are idiots if they don't have Reyes in the starting rotation. Period.
  4. I guy with Helton and Sexson is willing to trade me Sexson and his 12th round pick for Huff (picked him since he has 1b eligibility) and my 8th round pick which seems reasonable. Should I do it?
  5. I'd wait awhile. If others have selected a firstbasemen, the run is over. Tracy, Fielder, Giambi, and Morneau can be productive. Since it's a keeper league, I'd tarket Tracy, Morneau, or Fielder. Would you go with best available player which would most likely be an OF or perhaps a 3rd baseman (of which Chavez, Rolen, Blalock, Glaus, and C. Jones are still available)? I'm also eyeing Nathan.
  6. I'm in! What type of league is it?
  7. Help! I got caught with my pants down! There are no 1st basemen left! I kept thinking it was a deep position when I didn't get the top few, but now here's who's left: Please cast your vote! Thome Shelton Fielder Wilkerson (counts as 1st base) Huff (counts as 1st base) Morneau D. Johnson Giambi Overbay Tracy N. Johnson Sweeney Kotchmann D. Young Casey Another question is are any these guys good enough to even draft with my next pick? Or should I just wait and take the lesser of the evils at the end.
  8. I drafted Rolen in the first round of my regular Yahoo league last year. That's a large part of why I finished 15th in a 16 team league (counting on Vidro was another reason). Weird, I had both those guys last year too (and Halliday and Harden).
  9. Prior is an amazingly great pick for the 5th round of a keeper league. And no, i can't guarantee that his elbow will stay out of the way of line drives and his body will stay out of the way of Marcus Giles. But you get my point. Could'ves, would'ves, should'ves don't count in fantasy. Heck, I'm an equal opportunity fantasy player, I'm not drafting Rolen for the same reason.
  10. OK, I just took Prior with my 6th or 7th 5th round pick. It's a pretty good value pick if you ask me. Can you guarantee he won't get hurt?
  11. I can't imagine, with a name like "Pujols", where they might come up with a joke to put on a shirt. :P You guys are really clever.
  12. Moneyballer! I'm sure his down year last year has something to do with it. I don't think he's a bad choice if he's still available in the 4th round. Then again, I don't know who you already have and who else is available. So far, Santana, Bay, Jeter. I know 3rd base is deep, but I show him as tied for 3rd with Aram (and Aram, Arod, and Wright are already gone). I'm thinking of Felix Hernandez next though.
  13. Just curious, is there something wrong with Eric Chavez? I have him as pretty high on my draft board, but he hasn't gone in either league yet and we're in the fourth round.
  14. I would drool if I could still get Wright, doubt it would happen though. Still high on Abreu, Ortiz, and Lee, but again, not going to happen. Beltran is a good, under the radar pick if these guys aren't available. Since two SS are gone early (Young and Tejada), do you think I have to fear a run on SS?
  15. How about Soriano taken with the 6th pick? On the whole, a good group though. I'd be interested in the NSBB/CardsTalk team as well this year. I think I PM'd Vance on that.
  16. For anyone that's interested, here's our Cards Talk draft board so far, http://aspato-go.com/cardstalkbaseball/index.php
  17. Well, Vance, luckily I didn't have to make that choice. The guy in front of me chose Teixiera with 10 min. left, so I went with Santana.
  18. I think I'll opt for Santana if Teixiera off the board. There's some good depth at 3rd base as well, so I'm giving the edge to Santana.
  19. Thanks for the input. As this is not a live draft and players have 12 hrs. between picks before their turn is skipped, I haven't drafted 6th yet! I'm on the clock at noon and so far Pujols, Arod, Cabrera, and M. Young are off the board. The person in front of me may or may not get his pick in time. If he doesn't, I'm definitely taking Teixeira. Otherwise, my choices are Abreu, ManRam, Wright, Guerrero, Santana, or Lee. Anyone care to weigh in?
  20. It's a keeper league. I'm fond of Cabrera, but I still think the 6th spot would be taken him too early (not to mention I'm now suspect of their overall offense affecting his RBI and runs total). I'm assuming Arod and Pujols would be gone at that point.
  21. My draft's tomorrow. Who would you take with the 6th pick? I'm either considering Santana or whoever's left of these five, Pujols, Arod, Teixeira, Abreu, Ramirez, or Ortiz. My league weights RBI, R, HR, SB, and OPS for offense and W, K, WHIP, ERA, and SV for pitching. Thanks!
  22. Hatteberg Ewww. Not the type of player I'd want as a DH. His slugging is horrific for not fielding a position.
  23. Forgive my ignorance, but who was the DH for the A's last year?
  24. "They just figured this out now?" would be the general consensus reply.
  25. Thanks for the explanation. It seems people were willing to give Hendry the benefit of the doubt for awhile, because he does pull off some great trades from time to time, as recently as the Hawkins for Williams and Aardsma trade. If appears he is philosophically in line with Baker at this point though, as evidenced from his costly re-signings of Rusch and Perez. You have to wonder is it the chicken, the egg, or one and the same? The manager obviously lobbies for certain players in the off season (and LaRussa does this).
