  1. I think we, as the fans of this organization, have earned the right to overreact by watching this team everyday in the hopes of a meaningless victory. Oh - and Z has been one of the constants, not getting hurt. This does not happen everyyear, but it could be "his year" Yes, actually it does happen every year. Heavy arm is common and Zambrano has experienced as much in the past seasons as well. The point is - name one other team that has as many injuries to so many pitchers. It is not this bad and does not have to happen every year. listen - if it looks like chicken and tastes like chicken...then...

  3. wow - is that even really possible to have a payroll under 15 million?
  4. after Bynum got left at 3rd base yesterday, Santo said something like this... "Geez, Pat this game is not that hard." I laughed really hard at that one.
  5. tell me this is being talked about somewhere else and I have missed it. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/cubs.asp Is Z hurt now??????
  6. Okay, I have not seen it posted yet. Maybe we should just start a post for every day that Bruce rights an article. Very well written again, still one of the only ones that states what is wrong with this club. I found a very interesting quote from Baker in there... I find that interesting because when you look at the boxscore, we did have just 1 hit less than them. We did have as many HR as they did. But there were two glaring differences - walks and strikeouts. They had 5 & 3, we had 1 & 8. Not that 4 walks would have allowed us 7 runs last night, but it turns the lineup over and so on...I don't need to explain it to you guys. Anyways, just another good articles. Just one point of help from all of you. Last night I was sitting with my 6 year old son, who is really into baseball and the Cubs (oh what I have done). Anyways, he asked the questiong..."if I watch baseball on TV will it make me a better baseball player." Ponder that question!
  7. but not a negative thing to say about Neifi's boneheaded play: That is really unbelievable...I really hope it is something like when you defend your players in public and then rant at them in private - but I am not sure that is even possible to imagine. What good excuses could Baker make from this???? 1. The boos of the fans blew the ball close to the pitcher 2. If only our ground crew would not have kept the infield grass so long, it would have rolled past the pitcher 3. It is just hard when D-Lee is still injured 4. At least he was trying fill in some more...
  8. It would be hard to disagree with Lee being an untouchable after what we are currently going through after he went down.
  9. It was the first time in a long time I'd sat down and watched a full game Scully worked. It was truly a joy. He's amazing. What's really impressive is that he does it all by himself....and if you weren't specifically listening to hear a 2nd guy you'd never miss him. I had two favorite lines he had last night. "Maddux is like a diamond cutter, every pitch is so precise" And... "Furcal reaches out to bunt and leaves that one in Barrett's glove" He's just damn good. Yeah, I love the fact he is in the booth by himself. You don't get any of that inane chatter that you are bound to get with a two man booth I just sat there with my wife last night and could not wait for the next person to come up to bat to see what new information that he would give regarding our players. He was so informative. I didn't realize that Murton won all those home run challenges. he simply has information about everyone - and a great storyteller. How about the one when Lee was like 11 and went to a baseball camp and the person running the camp was Dusty Baker. That was funny. Scully was completely incredible...
  10. ya, I just do not understand - he is easily the second or third best hitter in our lineup...
  11. wow - there is wayyyyy too much Dusty love here - are you sure this is http://www.northsidebaseball.com ? Have I entered into a wrong place?
  12. if only we had Charlie Eppes from the FBI to help us figure out these Numb3rs?????
  13. what? you think that it is going to stop once the season starts? It will be second-guessing time...
  14. man, I wish I was watching it - were the guys excited?
  15. I think if it's one of the bottom-feeders (such as Penn State or Minnesota) playing at one of the top teams (such as Illinois), it's a definite win for the top team. Apart from that I agree with you. A team could beat Illinois and lose to Penn State less than a week apart. I believe a lot of the "bottom feeder" talk is more perception than reality. A lot of teams carry a good or bad perception and it typically carries weight season to season, espeecially when talking about upsets or underdogs. The Big Ten this season is not as good as everyone talked about early in the season, but from top to bottom, its VERY competitive. I don't think anyone really knows how well the Big Ten will do when it comes tourney time. Its odd - because normally the Big Ten has 2-3 Top Tier teams, then 3-5 really solid teams. This year i'd say they have 7 or 8 solid teams with the last 3 teams being very competitive. that sure if funny even though they have a better out-of-conference winning percentage than any other conference...They will do just fine - several sweet 16's and I would not be surprised to see a few elite 8's.
  16. I haven't ever been to PNC, so I couldn't include it. go sometime - it really is incredible. A great place to see a game. I went 2 years ago when Rob Mackoviac (sp?) hit those two homers to kill us. I saw all 4 games - walk up tickets then were like $25 for about 8 rows up even with first base. Great seats and a great place to see a game - and a great Cubs following there - over half the crowd.
  17. well worth the money - I am with Dishnetwork and my bill this month already has the first installment. So it will be paid by May...It is really the greatest invention (along with DVR) - I can watch the game at night in about 1.5 hours instead of sitting down for the entire thing. The only thing is the Saturday games - that is sort of frustrating when they are not on WGN and not on Fox - you cannot get them (it is like after May something I think). Also, you get alot of other announcers instead of the Cubs guys - sometimes the other teams. Also - for the first time last year, just to sit and listen to Vin Scully for the Dodgers, never really done that before - he is really good.
  18. Don't you know that espn writers get fined for saying anything negative about the Yankees? :-&
  19. So do I....I bought my son a Wood jersey and I like it so much I bought one for myself. you guys took the words out of my mouth - as I just saw those jerseys, man, I like them. It got me excited about ball again. Let's go.....
  20. Agree wholeheartedly. I have been begging my wife this year again to get it - and she said I could if we get a good tax return. we just got our taxes back from the accountant - looks like it is going to happen. What a great invention. Mix that with the DVR and I am about on the top of the world.
  21. cool-aide, cool-aide, cool, aide...
  22. ya, I read that yesterday - he must not have been on this site too much or there is no way that he would have JJ in the 2 spot. Let's hope Baker is not reading...
  23. crazy enough - it brought a smile to my face this day. Thanks for the link...
  24. interesting, but some people have wayyyy too much time on their hands to be figuring out these things.
