  1. Maybe I should take suggestions from you, the guy who runs the site which currently looks like this? ... His site should mean nothing to you. Actually, what should mean something to you is that he criticized your grammar. Interesting though, he did use a fragment at the end of his critique. "Needs a lot of work" is not a sentence. So maybe he should double check his post before he criticizes someone for doing what he does. Therefore, take what you can from the other critiques, but ignore those who simply have nothing to say. :D
  2. I can' t believe that I am saying this...but I would rather have Neifi playing with Prior pitching than Miggy playing and Rusch pitching... please forgive me for that statement of Neifi playing - I am going to wash my mouth out now...
  3. sorry, been out of it for a while, but maybe they have not pulled the trigger because it is a rumor. Just a rumor. I have failed to see anything of significant value than some reporters stating that the Cubs should do it. When does something cross that line from being a report from a rumor? Just wondering... All I want for Christmas is Prior in the rotation...I am getting sick thinking about trading him...
  4. That's basically my exact story... except I got hooked earlier on in that season. I was more of a Sox fan (except I didn't really care about sports) prior to 95. The Jordan comeback got me really interested in sports and after the Bulls lost to the Magic, I needed a new sport to watch. Eventually, I was watching the 95 Cubs...They were way outta the division race.. Cincy had it in the bag.. But they were in the wild card race till that final weekend. I remember having tickets to the last game of the season, and I had made a sign that said GO GIANTS, because we needed the Rockies (I think) to lose to the Giants... When we were eliminated, I was so disappointed that I almost didn't go to the game. awesome game - one of the best I ever attended. When we one that first game, if I remember correctly, we were down in the ninth and came back to win. Then the next day were down again and made a huge comeback and Dunston struck out with the bases loaded. But that one that we won was hysteria. Oh - for me ---WGN! Growing up in Indiana, playing baseball all summer, not much else to do during the day - swim and watch the Cubs!
  5. That was Jim Hendry rationalizing giving Neifi about 2.49M more than any other team was going to give him for 2006. I think we should put CuseCubFan's new team motto on the shirt. "Cubs Fever 2006...Catch It!"* *and if you can't catch it, you'll be traded I like this better.... "Cubs Fever. Catch it!* "then get some antibiotics." I am all for that one - that really made me laugh...
  6. The reason we are all feeling pretty lousy this morning is that now, more than ever, we feel alone. There certainly was company in misery, but now we are all alone at the bottom of that barrell. BTW, I am sick of all the so called 'Cubs Fans' who applaud the White Sox winning. To me, you should be banned from Cubdome if you are trying to convert and say that you simply like 'Chicago' baseball. Then you are truly not a Cubs fan. Here's to all of us sucking it up for one more year...
  7. If anything, I think this is a testament to how well Jim Hendry and scouting recognize talent in a young player. Most people saw Murton as an after-thought in the Nomar deal, yet somehow he's managed to blossom into one of the best young players with the Cubs today. Want more examples? The Kyle Farnsworth deal got the Cubs one decent reliever with a nice upside (Novoa), a third baseman who broke out this year (Moore), and an intriguing young guy down in Low A (Flowers). Shipping Matt Lawton to the Yankees got the Cubs a guy who has one of the best GB/FB ratios in the system (Berg). I could also point to the Aramis Ramirez and Derrek Lee trades as an example of seeing a young player with a lot of talent. So, to put this into perspective, I do think this organization has people in it who are able to spot these players. When it comes to homegrown players, I think a combination of things have to be taken into account: 1) Injuries are always crippling. They have caused major setbacks for the following players, among others: Chad Blasko, Billy Petrick, JK Ryu, Angel Guzman, Nic Jackson, Mark Reed, Brandon Sing, Sean Marshall, Aaron Krawiec, Bobby Brownlie, and Luke Hagerty. These guys would be so much more highly regarded if they were healthy. Unfortunately, these things happen in all systems. It's just been rather bad for the Cubs recently, from what I have seen. 2) The visa crackdown. This one especially hurt last year, as memory serves me. Now that things have finally been worked out, the Cubs can finally bring over a lot of the guys they've been trying to get in through the Dominican Republic, among other places. 3) I have to wonder how the Cubs psychologically evaluate players. Given the struggles of some of their guys as they approach the higher levels of the systems, I'm curious as to whether it's because of the nature of baseball or if it's something in some guy's heads. I don't know how the Cubs do things at this level, so I'd like to hear an answer as to what they do. 4) You have to admit, the farm system has churned out some really good pitching. We've seen these guys produce really well (Wood, Prior, Zambrano) at various times and levels. Other guys have the potential to become effective in the near future (Hill, Wellemeyer, Wuertz, Leicester, Mitre, Ohman) in various capacities and have produced in the major leagues. Yes, I know it's trendy to trash these guys for whatever reason, but the bottom line remains that they are young players with a heck of a lot more upside than most other pitching prospects out there. Once the Cubs get a manager who's willing to actually coach and who actually knows how to use a bullpen, I think we'll be looking at our farm system with much better eyes. I could also point to the Aramis Ramirez and Derrek Lee trades as an example of seeing a young player with a lot of talent. so you mean like....Dontrelle?
  8. A winner? Really? How many World Series has he won? The only real winners right now are guys like LaRussa, Torre, Francona, and Scioscia. I don't see a lot of parallels between them and Rusty. We've got to expect more than "back to back" winning seasons. That's the same old trait I hate in many Cub fans: diminishing expectations. In 2003, Baker's team was 5 outs away from the WS In 2004, Baker's team collapsed in the last week of the season, losing crucial games to the fifth-place Reds. In 2005, Baker's team will finish with a losing record. Am I the only person that sees a regression here? I never have understood why Joe Torre constantly gets listed as a great manager. He's been handed all star team after all star team since he became manager of the Yankees. Isn't an all star team supposed to win the whole thing? Better yet, we're getting ready to see the Yankees NOT win a World Series for 5 straight years now, and Steinbrenner has gone out and gotten him a better team each year Torre fails to win it all for him. Torre pre-Yankee manager record: 894 wins 1003 losses He managed St. Louis, New York Mets and Atlanta during that time in his career, and managed only 1 first place finish and 2 second place finishes in 14 years. It's all about the rings. Period. That is the standard to judge managers. Let's see, who has had more success during their period of ownership, Steinbrenner or the Trib? Oh, that's right, the Yankees don't do it the right way because they try and "buy" titles. The Cubs have too much integrity to try and win that way. I'll take the Yanks success anyday of the week. I agree completely with you - it is all about rings. To illustrate...who would you rather be - the Marlins or the Braves? Would you rather have been in the playoffs for 14 straight years and only have 1 championship? Or would you rather have made it only 2 times in the same amount of time, yet won them both? If you picked the Braves, then you miss the point. It is about winning it all. (That being said, I would love to have the Brave problem...)
  9. You might have to change your name at least...maybe "LastYearofDaCubs"
  10. what other team had as much hope in their team going into the season as we did and yet finish so bad? I can't think of one. And yet the manager is still here...
  11. Unbelievable... Nothing shocks me anymore.
  12. This has an eeery feeling of epitomizing the entire season... Pat just says...'it is now up to Jose Macias'
  13. how about a little Patterson walk off on the last day at Wrigley...
  14. Astros...Ron & Pat are talking about them going from 15 under to 15 over in one year. That's amazing. Didn't they do something like that last year as well?
  15. question: What is the CUB thing to do right after getting 3 runs of support? Answer: Walk the leadoff guy
  16. end of the 1st - and the cheers ring out in Floriday & Philli...
  17. I will say this - I think that it is something to play for - to know Houston out of the playoffs. I would be overjoyed if we could sweep them... Oh, and the Sox blow up and not make it in
  18. and here comes Macias...a little early today. I figured a pinch hit appearance in the 8th would have been assumed.
  19. I never tracked it by the number of hits Neifi has..... but CUBS are 11-13 when Neifi hits leadoff CUBS are 32-35 when Neifi bats second CUBS are 2-4 when Neifi bats sixth CUBS are 17-17 when Neifi bats seventh CUBS are 1-4 when Neifi bats eighth Basically what you are saying is that we lose anytime that Neifi is in the lineup?
  20. oh boy, maddux out in the ninth, I hope he does not lose this win...
  21. I think that is one reason why guys like Murton & Hairston Jr. have been at least fun to watch - they have a bit of hustle. Remember those couple diving catches by Hairston a few weeks ago and then stands up and pumps the fist - that is what we need. And Murton just continues to do his job, get on base (and by the way, look out, here comes the power) & hustle. I agree with what was posted...we need some fire and energy.
  22. well, the one thing we learned from last night - the Iowa Cubs can't beat the Cincinnati Reds. That one goes on Dusty - he phoned it in from the beginning. Macias in Right? Blanco catching again? Kids pitching in a close game in the 9th? Wow, that was sickening
  23. Len, thanks for stopping by... It seems to me that the home run call for announcers is a real distinguishing trademark. For all of us who have sat at home and tried to come up with a good home run call, only to be disappointed at how difficult it really is - I have a few questions...When did you come with your vocal inflection and for the most part saying 'get out of here'? Was it something that you practiced to come up with or did it come naturally? Did you ever have some other home run calls before settling on this one? Thanks for the time, it has been a joy to listen to you this year. This fan hopes for many more.
  24. thanks all for your help...
