  1. Here's to the BIG MURT tearing it up this spring....come on...I really want him to do well
  2. If already posted, sorry - didn't see it. But I guess Jeff Bagwell is retiring today and staying in the Houston organization. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2694888 So let the debate begin about the "hall of fame" - incredible player, but I doubt in.
  3. I appreciate that the GM of my favorite baseball team uses wins as the true metric of a pitcher's ability. I know he's just looking for something to show the fans justification for the signing. Stick with the "we found a flaw in his delivery" kick and please stay as far away as you can from the "he's won more games than Zito" crap. He also pitched for one of the best offensive teams in baseball the last 3 years. He won a lot of games he didn't deserve to win. It would be interesting to look up - I don't have time right now. But I wonder how many runs of support he received in that time as compared to Zito and Schmidt. He did play for a team these last 3 years that could put up some runs...
  4. sorry, I guess you got in before me - check out the other posting... mods, do what you need to do
  5. He was just on, a few things... 1. Soriano would have gotten that money from someone, so why not the Cubs? 2. Moving forward without Prior and if he is ready, they get another great pitcher. 3. Interesting fact - over the last 3 years, he said that Marquis has more wins that Zito or Schmitd. Said that he had a horrible 2 months last year and that inflated his stats 4. Said that Lilley contract was what the free agent pitching market is at. No GM likes to have to bid in the free agency market for pitchers because you will always overpay, but they were forced to. Overall, much like the same as other things...
  6. page 2 on espn has a great article talking about the ridiculousness of this signing and the free agency in general... http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=keown/061121 one of my favorite quotes...I think something like this was posted earlier, but funny nonetheless... I guess they agree with everyone here - that although Soriano might be high, this is even higher.
  7. DeRosa on the bench? Listen, I do like Theriot as well, but let's face it. DeRosa did not get the big bucks to be the bench back up. He will be the starter with Theriot as back up. Argue good or bad, doesn't matter. And I am pretty certain that Soriano is not going to bat in the middle of the order - you can dream all you want, but he will be at the top.
  8. absolutely ridiculous that Z did not even get 1 first place vote and only 1 2nd place vote and only 3 3rd place votes? That means that only 4 people thought he was in the top 3 in pitchers? Unbelievable.
  9. he said nothing useful as far as Cubs go oh well, btw, he does think the Tigers will win the WS - so hopefully that is because he despises the Cardinals already...
  10. I would love to be somewhere that simply had TV - I am out of state and no ESPN. I was at Damon's Grill watching through most of the 3rd quarter till they closed and I had to leave. I get to where I am staying and log on and it is over - turn off the computer, log back on just before going to bed and what? 24-23? Man, I wish I saw that...and then the missed FG?
  11. It would have been horrible - but as I remember, Brant Brown was a BIG reason why we were in it that year. Didn't he have like several late inning HR's that year to win games? And he was young - what ever happened to him? It is like he was traded and then fell off the face of the earth.
  12. I thought Theriot was caught stealing third with two outs??? If so, it's a completely different situation than JP trying to get to third w/ 1 out. If this is the case, then these are two completely separate situations and should be viewed differently. I do believe that is the scenario - you never make the 1st or 3rd out at 3rd base. The 2nd out can be lived with, but obviously not great. But you could make the argument that since JP was the tying run with 2nd, 3rd hitters up, he is already in scoring position. The only reason why you do that is to score then on a sacrifice (fly most likely). And I doubt that Theriot is your primary sacrafice fly candidate.
  13. 10 in his first full year, so yeah, possible. Not even a full year though - he has almost 100 less AB than Jones in RF. He very well could have 12-14 by now
  14. everyone should go on there and vote "no" - for what has been mentioned already, what if he was available????????? Scariest thought of the day p.s. - I do understand that that vote has no actual basis of effecting whether Neifi stays or goes with the Tigers.
  15. ya - a buddy sent me a joke the other day... what do the Cardinals and Cubs have in common? Neither has won a championship in their new ballpark. so, I guess others still find them comical - as we find them painful
  16. Wow - if you were to state at the beginning of the year that this would be our 25 man roster come the end of August. I think we would all state that we would be in trouble. Listen, I am not saying that I am buying the "injury" excuse, but come on - look at this and tell me what is missing... I have italicized the ones that we should expect to be on a major league roster and really contribute... 17. please tell me that is sarcastic that you think he would ruin our chemistry...
  18. MLB Gameday says this... Chris Burke singles on a line drive to catcher Michael Barrett. funny but true didn't see it, but listened to Pat and Ron on it - just funny the way Gameday described it...

  20. Great Interview! Way to go Len.
  21. we're trying - have you looked at our record recently?
  22. not in front of a TV, are you serious? Really? goodness, give it a rest...I guess our team has not given them anything to promo, so let's look to recent history - is that how it goes?
  23. Maybe someone can help me with something - I remember a game back earlier in the season against the Dodgers and since I have MLB extra innings, I was listening to Vin Sculley. And I remember clear as day that he said that Murton has lots of power, that he had won a few home run derby's in the minors - but that it had not yet been seen in the majors yet. Anybody else hear that? Very interesting from one of the best... It's been pretty well documented that Murton can put on a show during BP. The problem is, that power hasn't crossed over into game action, at the major league or minor league level. maybe he just hits 65 MPH fastballs well. Thanks for the info
