    It depends what happens this winter and the current constructed team probably will win the division. Only to choke in the playoffs again.

    I hate when I woke up this Morning my Wife tried to cheer me up with saying things like other teams have come back. I don't have the heart to tell her that the Cubs don't break other teams hearts...Ever! We are incapable of historic comebacks. It's not in the Cubs DNA. When things go bad they continue to decline until the bitter end. There is no reversing. There is no silver lining. Just like Soul said stats don't make a bit of a difference for this team. We all know playoffs is a crap shoot, but how in the hell is this team always crapping?!?!

    We all thought the cubs were a better team than the Dodgers and look how that has turned out thus far The Phillies are benefiting from Milwaukee having a pitcher who cant throw more than 75 pitches because he has been injured all year and another who hasn't pitched on normal rest in at least 2 weeks. The Phillies are also benefitting from players who can hit the baseball. A slight technicality but, yes, it is helpful to have some players who can actually put the ball in play and manage a few hits. And catch the damn ball.

    You should. We are toast... As for next year? I'm worried about the continued declines of Soriano, Ram, and Dlee. Uh, I buy into Soriano and D-Lee, but Rammy? Yea, maybe not Ram...Just venting a bit. But DLEE/Sori I'm worried about.

    It really does make one wonder if there really is something to this effing curse and whatnot. How do you be the best team in the NL, 97-wins, all those stats, etc etc etc and just completely wet the bed when it comes to the games that absolutely matter the most? This ain't just a mega-choke job. It's amazing. This series wasn't even close.

    It won't matter. We could have Reyes at short, Beltran in center, and both Peavy and CC and we'd still not make it to the WS. Pretty much. We have a aging team. Blow the s--t up and prepare for 2020.

    exactly. This was the year, the window is shrinking. This team is old. Lee is declining rapidly, Soriano is going to start declining soon, and we got never-going-to-happen against seasons from Edmonds, Dempster, Theriot, and Derosa. The window was now and they blew it. Again! We blew it in 2003, when we had the best 1-2 punch in baseball. It's a never ending cycle.
