Considering the type of guys on this team now (in particular, Dempster), I think he'd get along with everybody extremely well. Yeah, I think that's fairly well known about him. But given the way the Cubs put up with Burnitz last season, they're more than willing to accept streaky hitters. Hell, they kept Neifi going even after his one hot month. This is another one of those situations where the numbers don't show the same thing. While I'll grant that defensive numbers aren't completely accurate on a year-by-year basis, the fact is that he's not nearly as bad in the field as it looks like... kind of like a backwards Omar Vizquel. Well, considering the fact that Boston doesn't want anything to do with him, and absolutely nobody is looking at him as a potential starting right fielder, I think he'd take the job. He might not be happy all season... but damnit, we hired Dusty for his supposed "players' manager" title. I'm not really advocating handing him a buttload of cash and the starting job. IMHO he's just the sort of low-risk, high-reward player we should be targeting. Cause even if he's not doing wonderful and we sink to the cellar, some playoff bound team would be willing to take him off our hands for the rest of the season to cover for their injured starter.
