  1. I was just thinking that Vlad is exactly the type of hitter Marquis should have extreme troubles with... I guess I was right. Hooray? :?
  2. It's not showing on the schedule. http://www.xmradio.com/schedule/sport/get_mlb_schedule.jsp
  3. Why the heck is Jones batting second? Correction: Why the heck was Jones batting second? He grounded out weakly to second while I was typing that... as expected.
  4. You're right - so does that make Ronnie our backup-backup middle infielder?? In what situtation do you see him playing?? It's generally a good idea to have 2. I'd imagine it's a better idea to carry an extra outfielder than an extra middle infielder. Most of the playing time that player is going to get is going to be pinch hitting, so it's probably a good idea to have a better hitter.
  5. So Vance, what's the plan from here?
  6. He's certainly the best option available if Lou feels we really need a spare MI. Besides, it's not a smart use of valuable resources to trade for a backup MI. Would giving up Marmol be worth the value a guy like Barmes would give us over Ronny? Certainly not.
  7. With SS that wide open, I'd hope Moore gets all the playing time there he can handle. There's no reason not to work on maximizing his value.
  8. Now it's some sort of super-megaglut. Really, what team needs Clark when it already has Gonzo, Pierre, Ethier, Kemp, Loney, and Repko? Even with Repko down, they had five guys who can play in the outfield, and three of them can conceivably cover center.
  9. Don't expect one. I've learned from other experiences, that the paper does as it pleases and doesn't think it must answer to anyone. I think that is a result of being the only newspaper in town. On all fronts, that paper has an agenda. The only people they answer to are the big bosses at Gannet. Well, if you want to track down a way to complain to Gannett, count me in. Also, there is about a .002% chance you could report the incident to media-watchdog Matt Drudge and he'd run it. That would surely draw the ire of their bosses at Gannett.
  10. Horrible trade by the Dodgers. Good to know, though... I was thinking of picking up Kemp in my draft tonight. Now I know better.
  11. Brackman, much like Samardzija, has more projection than your average college starter. His first two years he spent quite of a bit of development time on the hardwood. You have to take that into account. He's also pretty athletic for a big guy, which isn't as common as you'd think with the other pitchers that are tall. On average the taller pitchers do turn out better. I don't know where the hell your get the exception to the rule crap. He's not tall and just throws hard. He has pretty good offspeed stuff and has shown a much better ability to dominate hitters than Samardzija. His potential is through the roof. He's nearly seven foot tall, throws in the upper 90s with quality secondary pitches. How can you NOT like that? To be honest, I'm not so sure he's not the best college prospect. It's between him and Price, and I am not one to buy the whole take Price because he's left-handed argument. I buy the whole "switch hitting catcher with power and patience" thing. If I had the #1 overall, I'd take Wieters.
  12. Look at the post above yours and get a nice eyefull of sideboob. You'll feel better. Edit: Or the post above mine!
  13. Was Aybar trying to step out on that first pitch or something?
  14. I'm sure we did it, but I really can't remember one... I recall Todd Walker winning a game with an RBI walk, but I think that was in June or July of 05. Sucks that we already had one out there.
  15. I'd be real interested to know how many times all of last year we walked in a run.
  16. I know how I feel about it and it is not good. Especially late in the game and down by more than one. And a guy like Pie on. But it is only ST, so I don't really care. I know I don't like it, but the only reason I was torn was that Lou might have just been trying to see how Cedeno handles it. I guess that's the stuff spring training is for. I think Floyd might have gotten away with that one.
  17. I don't know how I feel about bunting when behind. It's certainly not the smart percentage play.
  18. Has DeRosa seen any time at short this spring? I've been nothing but impressed with his defense at 2nd, and from what it sounds like he's been real good at third.
  19. the former Good to hear it. Nice play by DeRosa.
  20. Was it just bad luck on Wood's part, or was this the kind of outing that puts him on the DL to start the year?
  21. Ok, my cable and internet died right before the game started. How has the pitching looked?
  22. If Lou is really so concerned with letting Soriano run, Murton is definately the best choice. He can hit the fastball and is patient, sure... but he was also one of the league leaders in GB% last year. That makes the running game a lot safer.
  23. BP didn't pick us 5th-that was BA. BP picked us either 1st or second IIRC, and they love our offense overall. Yeah, they manually adjusted playing time for their team projections. They were still a bit conservative on DLee with 583 PA, but his numbers look pretty nice with 97 R, 28 HR, 87 RBI, and 18 steals.
  24. They're projecting that in 429 PA. Besides, in the player profile they did for him a while back, they said he'd hit more like his 75th percentile projection if he's healthy... so translate this line to his typical 650-700 PA. PA 450, R 81, HR 24, RBI 71, SB 14, AVG .302, OBP .385, SLG, .561
  25. he was good for a month or so one time . . . His .314/.391/.636 line over 153 games in 2000, and his .309/.385/.572 line in 141 games in 2003 are pretty darn good, especially when you factor in his plus defense. its 2007 I realize this. I was just responding to stichface implying he was never good for more than "a month or so one time"
