  1. I picked him up in my fantasy draft a few days ago. I'm hoping he makes up his mind soon.
  2. I'd move Zambrano up to the 7th spot.

Only one person is throwing more than one reliever per week, and Putz is just as good a bet as half the guys they're throwing to pick up saves. Besides, there just wasn't any value using a pick on BJ Ryan or somebody when guys like Ben Sheets were on the board. Putz is having an elbow problem right now. Might want to consider picking up another closer. He's gonna be back for opening day. Failing at that, these guys left Chris Ray, Brian Fuentes, Joe Borowski, and Todd Jones on the wire. Pick up Ray, do it quickly. Why? Putz had better k/9, bb/9, and hr/9 ratios. Not only that, but PECOTA has Putz pegged for a 3.35 ERA next year, whereas Ray is pegged at 3.99. I'll take my chances in the first few weeks of the season with Putz, cause the rest of it shouldn't be a contest.
  4. None of that is true. I heard an unconfirmed rumor it might or might not be opposite day.

  6. True... But it makes it a lot more encouraging given that he was the hitting coach for the Oakland A's. He also did a very good job improving plate discipline for the Mariners and Pirates, IIRC.
  7. I'm certainly all about it.

Actually, I went second. The first guy picked Howard. FWIW, we get 4 keepers after each year... that part of why I went so young.
  10. 12 man h2h roto league. stats are R, RBI, HR, SB, AVG, OBP, IP, W, SV, SO, ERA, WHIP. C - Mike Piazza 1B - Albert Pujols 2B - Howie Kendrick SS - Carlos Guillen 3B - Alex Gordon LF - Adam Dunn CF - Chris B. Young RF - Gary Sheffield UTIL - Travis Hafner SP - Jake Peavy SP - Ben Sheets SP - Felix Hernandez P - Brett Myers P - Rich Hill RP - J.J. Putz Bench - Anthony Reyes Bench - Roger Clemens I think it's not too shabby, but it'd be nice to get some opinions.
  11. Theriot ,Izturiz, Derosa are three guys on the Cubs roster who can play short. Walker can play 3b/2b/1b. Lou needs an extra infielder for the days he wants to play Derosa or Theriot in the outfield. Walker fits that bill. He still has some pop and gets on base. No, he doesn't. Let's say for example that we have Izturis at SS, Theriot at 2B, and DeRosa playing in RF for the day. Jacque has already PH. Izturis goes down and breaks his wrist after Dempster ties his shoelaces together during the 6th inning. Theriot moves to SS, DeRosa moves to 2B, and our spare outfielder (Pagan, Moore, Coats or whatever AAAA talent we could get for cheap) goes in to play RF. We call up Cedeno after the game is over. The last thing we need is another infielder. We simply need the best hitter available. Our roster is versatile enough defensively already.
  12. I wont try to tell everybody that mlbtraderumors is a great blog. It isn't. But their credibility has come a long way from the absolute joke that it used to be. Anybody could have emailed in a "tip" and it would have made it up there immediately and taken as fact. Now it does a lot of linking to other news articles and usually identifies what is mere speculation. It's a worthy read now, and not for the unintentional comedy value.
  13. In my own little world, he wouldn't have to. Cedeno would go down and get everyday at bats. Walker would start at 2nd, and DeRosa would be platooning in RF against lefties and filling in against righties where needed. I'd rather have theroit or derosa's better defense. . You'd rather have DeRosa's defense at 2nd than get Jacque's bat out of the lineup against lefties?

  15. The Gonzo, Pierre, and Nomar signings are all a bit strange to me. Kemp and Loney need to be playing at the major league level, and for some reason Coletti signed people to fill in all the positions they can play except for RF... where Ethier is anchored down. I'm honestly surprised he didn't sign Aaron Boone to a three year deal to play third and block LaRoche.
  16. If anybody here hadn't seen it yet, Todd Walker was released by the Padres today. He's officially back on the market. I know the odds of the Cubs picking him back up fall between "slim" and "none," but it's still fun to dream.
  17. If Aramis were really hustling, he would have tried to take home on Vlad's throw there.
  18. I didn't like seeing that late slide by Aramis. Edit: Apparently neither did his pants. They're ripped pretty bad right on the ole butt.
  19. Did Jacque really get the ball back in to the infield on the fly?
  20. Yusmeiro Petit was traded to the DBacks for Jorge Julio.
  21. I thought that was gone for a minute. And yeah, that was definately a phantom tag.
  22. Assorted spring training ranks for the Cubs: Runs - 8th (155) HR - 3rd (31) TB - 1st (450) BB - 9th (94) SB - 5th (25) SB% - 1st (89.3%)
