  1. Then surely you're not too chicken to inform them?
  2. There's some survivorship bias issues here. Maybe the reason Fergie and all those guys were as effective as they were despite the workloads is because they were the only genetic freaks capable of handling that workload.
  3. Yup. Bonds and Ruth are north of 160. Mays and Cobb sitting at 150. Williams is "only" at 130, but he missed 3 full seasons and parts of 2 more (all during his prime) due to his military service. So for a player to be in the GOAT conversation, they probably need to be in that 150 range at least, or have a damn good reason why they aren't.
  4. Mookie has to put up another 100 fWAR to be in the discussion for GOAT. If you want to put money on it, I'd give you some good odds.
  5. In 2023, Hendricks posted the second highest fWAR on the pitching staff. 2.8. Higher than everybody but Steele. Pretty much tied with Stroman (0.1 fWAR higher in 0.1 more IP). He's not as good as he once was, but he's a fine 4th starter. The problem is that with Steele out, we need too much out of him. But that's a Hoyer problem, not a Hendricks problem.
  6. I don't think judging anybody on what they've done against the Dodgers is fair.
  7. He'd be a bad pick at the moment, but he's clearly going to get there. The press likes him, so even if he wakes up blind tomorrow a la Kirby Puckett or dies in a plane crash like Roberto Clemente, they'll elect him on a "what if" basis. But assuming even a very abrupt decline phase, he's gonna clear 60 fWAR and be well-liked. He's in.
  8. Pat Hughes was going nuts in the booth about the Hoerner play. Wish I could watch it, but the shady internet site I used to stream from is no longer working, and MLB.tv seems to have blocked literally every VPN server I have access to.
  9. I'm curious, who all do you think is being replaced? I could see us demoting Gomes into more of a backup role, but he's still gonna get starts. The only guys who aren't well-established starters in our lineup today are Morel, Busch, and Madrigal. And even that's a misnomer, as Morel is 100% a starter, it's just a question of if he gets to play in the field.
  10. Potentially a tough matchup, wind blowing in (albeit from LF), no other clear opportunities to rest Busch for a while. My guess is that he's riding the pine today. But given how impressive he's been thus far, I also wouldn't be surprised if Counsell gives him a shot today. I don't think there's a "wrong" answer here -- hence why it's such a good test case to see how Counsell manages.
  11. With this kind of high-effort, high-quality content, I don't know why this board has been so reluctant to follow @Brock Beauchamp's plan to abandon the mega-threads.
  12. Yes. It would be easy for the players to get upset and a bit fatalistic after blowing a lead like that. We have all watched Cubs teams do exactly that over the years, phone in their effort or blame each other for the issues, and watch the team blow the game. It shows good team character that they stuck with it tonight and managed to quickly recover for the win.
  13. He is, ostensibly, a super utility player capable of playing decent defense at a number of positions, being a high percentage basestealer, and being a lefty bat with juuuust enough power to keep pitchers from throwing him meatballs and daring him to do something with them. The tools and the stats all suggest the above to be true. But I still have trouble buying that narrative.
  14. At this point, the projected spread in the win total between the NL Central teams is 3 wins. The Pirates may be a true-talent sub .500 team, but they've already banked five wins, and are now projected for 79.8 wins in a division where 82-84 wins could theoretically take it. This division could be a dogfight.
  15. Oh yeah, I got everything. It was just a stupid grind. There's always one "fastest" way to grind out packs and stubs. In 2022, there was a repeatable three team conquest map. I played the Braves, the Guardians/Guardians (I can't remember which year they switched), and the Angels over and over and over and over and over and over again. But I got my five packs each time I finished the map. Every time they'd release new content, I'd quickly sprint my way through it for the rewards. Then I'd get back to that three team conquest map. Over and over and over and over and over again. And when it was time to take a break and drop a deuce, I'd sit on the toilet buying and selling players and equipment through the damn phone app until my legs went numb. For reasons that are beyond explanation, I enjoyed that experience. But not enough to want to make it my life every year.
  16. I think The Show is one of those games I can only allow myself to buy every 3-5 years. When I purchased it in 2022, I spent an ungodly amount of time trying to treat the game like the goddamn stock market. I spent as much time on my phone app buying and selling players as I did playing the game itself. It'd have been smarter to become a doordash driver and use that income to purchase the packs I wanted. It certainly would have taken less time to get what I wanted. But I'm too stubborn about in game purchases to give them a dime for packs.
  17. I believe Henry Rowengarter may be available.
  18. At a certain point, it's logical for people to look at a player and want to see results, rather than just process. Of course, we are just four games into the season. So those wringing their hands at this point are massively overreacting.
  19. I'd still be interested in him on a minor league deal - he's a potential change of scenery candidate. I'd rather him than a guy like Curt Casali.
  20. The rule has always been if you post a thread and they win, you continue to post until they lose. By rights, you're up for the next one.
  21. Honestly, when I look at the Cubs, outside of the obvious remnants of the Mancini and Barnhart contracts, the Cubs are in pretty good shape. There are no obviously bad contracts.
  22. Almost half the teams took Mookie.
