  1. Yeah, thanks so much everybody for such a great season. I appreciate all the work everybody puts in around here.
  2. Just throwing his name back out there as a good trade target. He's got nowhere to play with the Angels. Scioscia has been touting Trumbo as an MVP candidate. Now you might think one of them could DH or play an outfield corner, but Bobby Abreu has already had to move from outfield to DH because of Bourjos forcing Hunter and Wells to the corners... and that's without factoring in Mike Trout forcing his way into things. Rumor has the Angels sending Trumbo to try to learn 3B this offseason but I just don't see it happening, not with the premium Scioscia places on defense. Morales would probably cost some decent prospects (as I'm sure the Angels would rather trade Wells/Abreu), but given the uncertainty surrounding his health and his position, I'd have to think he could be had. He's not Pujols and he's not Fielder... but if the bidding on them gets too crazy, we may be better served by bringing back Aramis, signing Wilson, and trading for Morales. It's probably better than a 3 year contract for Carlos Pena, anyways. (though don't get me wrong, I have nothing bad to say about Pena but point out his age).
  3. Aramis Ramirez at his absolute healthiest managed 670 PA back in 2003. CJ Wilson has faced 881 batters this year. Starting pitchers have just as much of a chance to make an impact as position players do.
  4. Smokies win 4-2, forcing game 4 tomorrow.
  5. Morris will likely be around. If memory serves, Hendry knew his arm was injured when we traded for him. I know Hendry is gone, but I don't doubt Wilken and Fleita will fight to keep the kid around and see what he's made of.
  6. would it? all it means is that you need one interleague series at all times. if you spread out the interleague play so that you don't have those two blocks where all the games but one are interleague, it could easily be done without adding any additional interleague games. The number of games isn't necessarily the issue. To this point, each year there are two short news cycles where writers who cover AL teams bitch about the NL not having the DH (for any of a variety of poor reasons). People forget about it being an issue until it crops back up again the next time. I just worry that having an interleague series going on at all times is likely to result in the media cycle lasting a lot longer... which is more likely to influence public perception.
  7. I am just now noticing Harman's strikeout to walk ratio.
  8. Batista closed it out. Daytona advances. \:D/
  9. I never cease to be amazed at how much people care about what professional athletes think and/or say.
  10. The Daytona Cubs twitter feed described it as a "MOONSHOT" for what that's worth.
  11. Year-round interleague play is bad enough on its own. But year-round interleague would stress the rules disparity between the AL and NL, and eventually force the NL to adopt the DH (as the MLBPA would never give up the DH in the AL, with all the money it brings in). That's the part I find really upsetting.
  12. Hell no. Old Hoss Radbourn's achievement goes beyond wins. How the hell did he keep his arm attached to throw so many innings?
  13. Dear god why?
  14. I'm expecting that, for at least his first few years in the bigs, his batting average is more likely to float in the .230 to .250 range than .265 or higher. .240/.315/.375 for 2012, I'll say. Then again, I'm also expecting the Cubs to try to get him to alter his swing to cut down on the strikeouts, for him to lose some power in the process, and our coaches to start telling him he should be more aggressive and just put the ball on the ground and use his speed. Everything these days comes with the caveat that there will be a new regime, but as to how this regime was operating, I wasn't expecting them to alter his swing drastically at this stage. I actually think he has a mildly similar issue as to what David Ortiz had coming up, a minor hitch on the inside of the swing (to my naked eye), and Ortiz was able to fix that with a good coach without anything being impacted. My expectation for 2012 ... I'll take a stab (assuming regular PT in the bigs) and say, .250/.330/.400. New regime, but my same broken heart.
  15. Vitters with another walk tonight. Lake too. @#$& the heck?
  16. Also, for clarifications sake, I said Barney would have about as much value as DeWitt had when we traded for him. And I stand by that. Player A: 25 years old, ~600 MLB PA with a .276/.314/.350 line. Good defense, no more projection in his bat. Player B: 24 years old, ~750 MLB PA with a .262/.340/.379 line. Bad defense, some projection left in his bat.

  18. Hoilman is now tied for the Boise club record for HR. He's getting my attention. LaHair now owns the Iowa club record for HR.
  19. Agree that Barney could very well be a starting SS somewhere. I disagree that makes him viable trade bait. I just don't see a team trading for Barney to be a starting SS until they see him play SS at the major league level for awhile, and hopefully that isn't going to happen on the Cubs anytime soon. I should have said that no team will actively search him out, but like many young Cubs he'd be appealing in a package....say for a OF bat or young pitcher. He wouldn't have much more value than Blake DeWitt had when he was dealt to us. Though I agree we should be willing to move him if somebody is willing to pay.
  20. explain Writing an episode of The Wire?
  21. Looks like Beeler is going to be starting for the Chiefs tonight. Somebody refresh my memory, what does he throw?
  22. Looks like I'm gonna be at the Peoria game again. It'd be nice if we had some real prospects this time.
  23. Nolasco seems like one of those guys for whom a change of scenery could be HUGE. Given his propensity to have that "one big inning" it would seem something gets mechanically off that his pitching coaches haven't been able to pick up on. Or he could just be a headcase, who knows?
  24. I hate to say it again... but the comp that always rings true to me is Jeff Francoeur, though perhaps better in the field.
