  1. Had no idea....good point. Knowing that, I think he'd be better off being limited to the number of innings he can throw his last 8-10 outings instead of just shutting him down in August. Thats unsettling... Looks like we're gonna ruin another great pitching prospect :x They've kept his pitch count pretty low (partially because he's been rocked in a few starts), but I do agree with the assessment that they might want to shut him down soon. Hopefully they've learned something from Dusty's overuse of Prior and Wood.
  2. I agree with bring stone back's assessment about his curveball. He's a little like a Rich Hill but with a better pitch arsenal in that aspect. He's shown that he has the talent to be a productive starter for this organization, and once he becomes consistent I think he'll be an above-average to good starter. Let's hope Dusty keeps him in the rotation if/when Wood and Prior and maybe Miller become healthy.
  3. He had a hard time locating his pitches yesterday, and his velocity wasn't where it needs to be, but that's hardly reason to consider him done. He's logged a fair share of innings this year and may have hit a weak spell.
  4. And to pour a little fuel on your fire, remember that Womack is actually better than Neifi. Yes, the Neifi that we're stuck with for 2 years. For $5M. But yes, Womack has a good chance to be a Neifi redux.
  5. I've been using 26 April, rather than the day of Lee's injury, as the beginning of the end for our CUBS...... CUBS AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS 04/03 - 04/25 630 96 165 30 5 18 259 88 51 107 0.262 0.317 0.411 0.728 04/26 - 05/24 885 71 204 29 8 15 294 66 64 137 0.231 0.287 0.332 0.619 overall 1515 167 369 59 13 33 553 154 115 244 0.244 0.299 0.365 0.664 CUBS IP H R ER BB K HR PC BB/9 K/9 HR/9 WHIP ERA 04/03 - 04/25 166.7 130 78 71 78 134 24 2773 4.21 7.24 1.30 1.25 3.83 04/26 - 05/24 234.0 232 155 148 132 209 34 4053 5.08 8.04 1.31 1.56 5.69 overall 400.7 362 233 219 210 343 58 6826 4.72 7.70 1.30 1.43 4.92 Fred rocks as much as the Cubs suck right now.
  6. Cubs stats, April vs May: April .256/.316/.408, 109 runs in 23 games in which we went 13-10 May .231/.283/.330, 58 runs in 23 games in which we have gone 5-18 so far Our offense went from mediocre to awful. And we were just swept by the Marlins. Does anyone have the pre- and post- Derrek injury stats? I'd guess they'd be even more striking. I know the following statement has been repeated 1000 times on this board by now, but I've never been as frustrated with a Cubs team in my life.
  7. The truth is spoken. The biggest mistake was the general mindset that having players who are fast are more important than players who get on base, and a quality bullpen is more important than a durable starting pitching. Also Neifi. There is absolutely no reason why Neifi gets 5M for 2 years.
  8. Seriously? Wow. That's pretty silly considering that he's one of the best hitters in all of baseball. Stupid Yankee fans. Is there any serious talk of really trading him? There's no serious talk of trading him, but I'll second the opinion that he's far from the most popular Yankee. I caught the Mets/Yankees game on Saturday, and while the fans stayed pretty intense throughout the entire game, the Yankees fans support for ARod was lukewarm at best.
  9. It's never going to happen, but if it did the Yankees would demand pitching + Aramis. Something along the lines of Z+Aramis+pitching prospect or Marshall, or Prior+Aramis+2 or 3 pitching prospects. But it's never going to happen.
  10. Spoken a bit too soon.
  11. Off-days and rain delays will only postpone how quickly can get through 162 games. For those that want this season to end they should play 2 everyday like Ernie wanted.
  12. For the series: Total Sox walks: 17 Total Cubs walks: 2 Jeebus.
  13. Really happy to see Jacque pull out a huge HR for us, and for the Cubs to avoid a sweep. No one should be booing Jones. He's putting up roughly the same numbers he's put up his last few seasons in Minnesota, and regardless what was said when he was signed, that's the performance fans should expect. Anybody now unhappy with the way Jones is playing should boo Hendry.
  14. Unbelievable. For a slugger going 9 games with one HR is a bit slow. For an entire team that's absolutely embarrasing.
  15. In an ideal world fans would give a 24 year old with barely 300 PAs to show his potential. He's shown flashes of what he can do, and his work ethic has gotten praise from the coaches. Let him use that work ethic to figure out how he can hit right-handers better.
  16. Completely agree. Between the fans booing him and the coaches questioning him and the high expectations that were set for him, Corey could only realize his potential somewhere else. I do hope he ends up figuring things out and puts up something along his 2003 line.
  17. I'd actually argue that Hendry gives no thought to OBP in determining which FAs to target.
  18. I hope so, but I can't see it happening. To the general public this team is dealing with injuries, not injuries and poor player selection and bad management. Can't see Hendry making the move this soon.
  19. Dusty, like Bonds, I think is one of Joe Morgan's favorites, meaning he won't say a single disparaging word about him.
  20. It was philly. I bet security was cheering on. At the beginning of the season I hoped that Bonds would pass Ruth there, in front of some of the meanest fans in the nation. The sign makes up for the 40,000+ strong "Steroids" chant that we all missed out on.
  21. Can Give Cedeno more of a chance than 2 months. He's 23, it's his first real shot in the majors. Let's not question his abilities when he hits his first slump.
  22. Do you attribute's Maddux's improvment this year to better calling by Barrett/Blanco?
  23. Two things come to mind that Cox does that Dusty doesn't do 1) Play young players. 2) Call out his players when they dog it. My favorite was a few years back when Andruw Jones obviously didn't hustle on a blooper and let it land in front of him for a single. Cox replaced him in the middle of the inning. The first one has much more of an effect on wins and losses IMO, but the second one is something a manager should still do.
  24. I thought he pitched ok, but Hill walked Giles three times, and two of those walks were leadoff walks. In all honesty Hill should not be walking lefthanders with his pitches.
  25. He isn't used in a platoon situation. He has almost 100 plate appearances against right handers. From a quick count he's started 31 of 36 games, and saw at least 1 at bat in 3 others. So he's played in every game but 2. He is struggling as is the team, so there is nothing wrong with giving him a couple of days off. The statement was a reaction to a previous post that stated how Murton should be used, not how he is used now.
