  1. The ump talked about 'if you watched my mechanics. . . ' The players aren't supposed to learn the "mechanics" of individual umpires. One umpire should signal his calls exactly the same as the next. There is no "styling" involved because this game is about the play on the field, not the umpire's personal style. I get very upset with the umpires who take 1.5 - 2 seconds before they stick their right hand out to call a strike. Selig needs to get uniformity into the way umpires signal their calls and, for that matter, how they interpret strike zones.

I'd bring him in. How 'bout Vince Coleman instead? He could work with the guys on their running all season long and, in individual games, could watch the opponent's pitcher from the first base box and give the team a heads-up on his motion, etc.
  3. Less than 30k for a Sunday game pitting your first-place team against a first-place team from the other division? And yesterday, I heard Farmer on the radio say that they drew 'just under 30,000, or 26,538' -- boy, he rounds up the numbers generously. I'm sorry, I just don't get it.
  4. Just read on a link from prosportsdaily.com that the Cardinals tried to pry Giles loose from the Padres last night. He must have cleared waivers. I'd hate to see him in a Cards uni next year.
  5. donobr says: THE COST OF FIRING HIM (Dusty) FAR OUTWEIGHED BY THE COST OF REPLACING A PRIOR. Amen!!!
  6. Sign Furcal now! He fits right in with our offense. He just hit into a potential double-play, but beat the relay. Imagine how many more games we would have won if Walker, Ramirez, et. al., were a bit faster, turning their double plays into fielders' choices. I just can't believe how many times we've had first-and-third with none out, then had a strikeout followed by a dp. It makes me sick.

CubFanNotBudMan wrote: "fire the entire coaching staff along with Dusty. maybe keep Dick Pole around (his name makes me laugh)" We could fire him and, like the Fisk and Pesky Poles in Boston, name the left field fair/foul pole the Dick Pole. Then, we keep the good name and lose the ineffective coach.
  8. That's exactly why I stopped watching football. I can't stand someone thumping his chest or pumping his fist after making a tackle or styling after scoring a touchdown, even though his team may be down by a couple touchdowns. Because I love the game, I hate the showboating even more in baseball. Best regards, DanOnWaveland
  9. I had argued that Frank Thomas is not a HOFer because he is not a total ball player -- no defense. Then someone pointed out that the one-dimensional Ozzie Smith is in the HOF and that shot my argument down. The problem is that, while Frank is a designated hitter and, in that role, does all that is asked of him, there ain't no designated shortstop -- they're asked to provide offense, as well -- and Smith didn't. 10. Unbelievable.
  11. I was sitting in the terrace seats behind home when Berkman's bat was hit and if he did get hit in the head, he must be a real blockhead, because all we heard was the sound of the ball hitting wood, not batting helmet plastic. What a total tool! Yes, Rem was justifiably p.o.'d by that stunt. As good a player as he is, I lost all respect for him as a person after that.
  12. I don't think Cubs fans hate the Sox. Generally, I don't think we care one way or the other. However, I am happy when the Sox lose only because it shuts the Sox fans up. They tend to be quite obnoxious -- although I'm sure they feel the same about us. Last year, I attended a Sox game and some clown was outside wearing a Marlins jersey with the numeral "03" and "Cubs Choke" in place of the player's name. Why obsess with the other team? The money could have been spent on a pretty cool Nellie Fox or Dick Allen replica jersey -- doesn't make sense to me. I encourage my son to cheer for both teams, although he likes the Cubs much, much more than the Sox. (That's mah boy!)

Some people take them way too seriously and that's too bad because they don't take themselves seriously. They do take themselves seriously. They are the most offensive, self-serving, self-indulgent clowns on the radio. North is a distant second, only because he's so foolish that sometimes, he's amusing. I listen to Mike and Mike on MVP in the am -- they talk sports, not local "personalities" and politics. I like Murph in spite of his idiosyncrasies because he wears his Cub-blue heart on his sleeve and suffers like the rest of us, kind of the way I tolerate Ronnie's "color analysis." Oh-no!!! Best regards and pass the maalox -- this will be a long summer. DanOnWaveland
  14. Bob's Keeper, "Atlanta let him go despite the fact he pitched very well for them last year. In fact, he was better than any reliever on the 2004 Cubs, save Hawkins. " I like your choice of words. Although he's saved two games in the last couple days, I'm still nervous when Hawk comes in with less than a three-run lead.
  15. I see the listing. Six hours and they've only processed 2,000 wristbands. I guess my 10,000 will have to wait awhile. I'm surprised that only six games are sold out so far. Best of luck to all.
  16. I was told that there is an update "box" on the cubs.com site, showing the range of the latest wristbands being "served" at Wrigley, but I cannot find that sucker. Can anyone help me with this? Also, people have to wait outside the park this year 'til their number is called. Hopefully, this is just because of all the teardown and rebuild that is going on. They've got an awful lot of work to finish in a little over a month! Thankyewe, ladies and gents!
