  1. If Murton keeps showing him good things over the next week, Dusty will have to play him. He gave in to DuBois he'll give in to Murton, if for no other reason than media pressure. He's still an idiot.
  2. The act of running hard out of the batter's box tore his groin. He didn't just fall over after swinging the bat.
  3. I heard that's a good way to rip your groin muscle apart. My friend Nomar told me that once.
  4. I'll pass. Too much money on his contract, and we don't need another Sosa type player who only thinks of himself. I'm sorry but Manny and Sammy are polar opposites. They may both seem like jackasses to us but Manny is beloved in that clubhouse. He is also 10X the hitter Sammy ever was. He is a perennial AVG threat with great power and discipline at the plate. There are a lot of teams who must be kicking themselves for not grabbing Manny when they could have picked up his contract with out a trade. His stock was obviously at an all time low, but he finished up strong. He is worth the money he's being paid and the Cubs could afford to pay him. However I don't realistically see him ever wearing Cubbie Blue. And before Sammy fans try to berate me for saying Manny dwarfs Sammy... Career Sosa: .275 AVG - .346 OBP - .539 SLG - 0.885 OPS Manny: .313 AVG - .409 OBP - .598 SLG - 1.007 OPS I'd trade just about anyone to get Manny - even at 33 years old. Not a Sammy fan, but wanted to jump in since I just had this argument with a friend of mine over the weekend. There is no question that Manny is quite a bit better career hitter than Sosa. However, your statement that Manny "is also 10X the hitter Sammy ever was" is completely false. These are Sosa's numbers from 98 - 01: 98 - .308 AVG - .377 OBP - .647 SLG - 1.024 OPS 99 - .288 AVG - .367 OBP - .635 SLG - 1.002 OPS 00 - .320 AVG - .406 OBP - .634 SLG - 1.040 OPS 01 - .328 AVG - .437 OBP - .737 SLG - 1.174 OPS So, clearly for about a 4 year period Sammy was every bit the hitter that Ramirez was and is. Sorry, you took me too literally at '10 times' the hitter. But the fact is that Manny is a "real" hitter, who hits to all fields and has real hitting ability with the strength of a slugger. Sammy was not a great hitter, he was above average at best. Manny's dominance has been sustained over his whole career and to me he's 1.20 X's the hitter Sammy ever was.

  7. http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-cub22.html http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/cubs.asp?id=76104 http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/beatwriters.asp?column=miles&id=76075 From Kiley: From Miles: I think it's looking pretty likely that Hendry will make a serious run at Kearns. If he decides he can part with Hill, then Dunn may be the guy - however I don't see that happening now.
  8. In case no one noticed Hill went 4.1 allowing six runs and striking out 3 the other night.
  9. No my friend that is pretty convincing evidence he was a troll. Whatever. I'm done with this nonsense. What evidence? Why is it such a secret? This isn't Watergate and we're not talking about Woodward and/or Bernstein.
  10. I'll give SweetEmotion some credit because whether he was boasting the correct info about his source or not - he still scooped everyone else. To the 't' he described all of the players involved and was trashed for it. I think some people are ignoring the facts and trying to cover something else up. Let's not forget that he had a huge head start on the Cincy media - and I wouldn't put it past him to have said his mole was within the Reds to either - lend more credibility to his story - or to cover his buddy's tracks so that it didn't get back to his friend the beat-writer. Whether it was true or not, there was a story brewing - GM's were talking - and SweetEmotion put it out there for us. You can't totally dismiss him as a troll. It's not only elitist, but it wreaks of mudslinging to impugn his character. I haven't seen any proof to that says otherwise. All the mods have said is that he's a troll? To what end? It obviously wasn't a PM thing. His IP address checked out. I don't get it. This is a travesty. A sham - a mockery - - - A traves-sham-mockery!
  11. I'm not trying to start anything, but Marty Brennamen said it was Hendry who told him that Hill, CP, and Mitre was too steep of a price for Dunn. My wife and I both heard it listening to the game today (She's a Reds fan unfortunately). Hal McCoy, the HOF Writer for the Dayton Daily News, agreed that it was too much to give up for Dunn. It may sound crazy, but this is what transpired. You could hear Marty yell "bye Jim" right before he went into the story on the air. As crazy as this all sounds, I'm 100% positive this is what I heard. McCoy loves Hill, and he has stated this in the past in some of his columns. That's all I got... This is the article you were talking about, I posted it in a Kearns thread a while back: http://www.daytondailynews.com/rec/content/sports/daily/0710bbinsider.html
  12. Sorry to have to bump but since it hasn't been mentioned that Hill got rocked tonight I figured I'd keep everyone up to date. Not to mention all the time I wasted fixing the box score.
  13. Here's some things to chew on: Tonights I-Cubs pitching line- Pitchers______POS...IP......H.......R........ER......BB.....SO......HR......ERA Hill___________P.....4.1......8.......6.........6........1........3........2.......4.53 Brownlie______P......1.2......1.......0.........0........1........2........0.......4.96 Williamson_____P.....1.0......0.......0.........0........0........2........0.......0.00 ___________________9____6_____6____2_____7____2_____4.95 Hill stunk tonight. The good news is that Williamson was sharp. ------------------------------------------------------ Something that hasn't been discussed: Would Eric Patterson have to be packaged in a deal with Corey in the interest of not screwing up EP? If the Cubs traded Corey there would be a whole crapstorm about how he failed the team around the Chicago press and I'm not sure how that would help EP and his progress with the Cubs. It just seems like it would hamper his relationship with the man who is ultimately his boss - JH. And yes, that box score took way too long. Where's Fred Hornkhul when you need him???
  14. I'd do Patterson and Mitre for Dunn in a second. Maybe the Reds would do Patterson/Mitre/Wellemeyer? I'd have done the original deal...but I'm trying to understand why Jim values Hill so much. I guess the real question is...did the Reds make that offer or is this whole thread a bunch of horse puckey. The way it was stated earlier was that Hendry turned down an actual offer. Maybe he's just posturing to weasel some of the players involved.
  15. Awww JH, how could you turn that down?! 1. If the Reds actually offered that deal - Jim's crazy to have turned it down. 2. If a deal was even discussed than anythings still possible. 3. If Dunn is available I've got to believe Hendry will still try to make it work.
  16. Marty Brennaman actually asked a GM about an internet message board rumor? If you think about it, that actually lends credibility to SweetEmotion. I personally doubt that the Reds broadcasters follow a Cubs MB. They could have heard the same rumor that SE heard. Anything's possible. Either way, it doesn't look like a deal's gonna happen but at least something has confirmed SE.
  17. Just because he is in the lineup, doesn't mean anything. Players have started a game, and have been removed DURING the game, as a trade gets closer to being finalized. It has happened numerous times before. The Reds still have to do their best to win every time they get on the field so Narron shouldn't care if a deal is proposed or even close. If I was in his place I'd want Dunn it the lineup today.
  18. OK, bare with me for a second... All these trade talk have me thinking. Maybe we are getting a new LF soon and the Cubs want to get Burny acclimated to CF. Just a thought... I think I beat you to that one... Ah! I missed your post. A new Left Fielder may be coming soon! That's okay, just felt like tooting my own horn...Lord knows my girlfriend hasn't been lately.
  19. OK, bare with me for a second... All these trade talk have me thinking. Maybe we are getting a new LF soon and the Cubs want to get Burny acclimated to CF. Just a thought... I think I beat you to that one...
  20. Allow me to reopen Dunn speculation... Baker and Hendry are starting Burnitz in CF because that's where they're planning on playing him for the rest of the season. Dunn will be in left and Gerut/Holly/Murton will play RF. Of course this means Hairston has been added to the list of players moving to Cincinatti.
  21. I'm sure he'll do fine in center. But why bench Hairston and move the outfield around rather than just giving Burny the night off? Or why not just sit Hollandsworth? Man Dusty is stupid. I think it's because with Dunn in right and Gerut in left Burnitz has to have a position somewhere...
