  1. Awful? A little loose with the hyperbole aren't we? 4.17 ERA in the PCL is far from "awful". True, but it's far from top notch too. I think the difference is that Wainwright was a first round pick and the expectations at the major league level are higher. Well I know the Braves had serious doubts about his ability to make it to and succeed at the ML level, and that contributed to their willingness to trade him. And the Braves rarely make bad decisions when it comes to young pitching. Achoo! Juan Cruz. Achoo! You're right though.
  2. Larry Bigbie - OF - Rockies According to the Boston Globe, the deal sending Larry Bigbie to Boston for Kelly Shoppach and Adam Stern is off. Shoppach is one of the players that supposedly was going to Tampa Bay in the Manny Ramirez trade, so perhaps something is happening there. The Red Sox should be trying to do better than Bigbie anyway. Jul. 30 - 3:11 pm et Source: Boston Globe

  4. ESPNews just reported breaking news that the Manny deal "close to dead". Take it for what it's worth.
  5. Is anyone listing to MLB Radio? I didn't even know it was free. The show will feature Reds GM Dan O'Brian today. It just started in case anyone's interested.
  6. The Cards have 2 or 3 very good pitching prospects that were much more highly regarded than Hill. Wainright is the only name that comes to mind but Jocketty has shown he's not afraid to trade prospects for splash deals. See Haren, Dan & Isringhausen, Jason Had they NOT wasted Haren, Calero, and Barton on Mulder (not an ace, not an ace), then I would be worried about the Cards getting Dunn. But seeing as their FARM SYSYEM is very limited in what the Cards can/can't do, I not to worried about the Cards getting Dunn, cause they don't have enough. Oops, I thought Haren was for Izzy. If that's the case then who did the Cards trade for Isringhausen? -As far as Wainright goes - I didn't know he was stinking it up this year - I do know he and two or three of their other top SP prospects had arm trouble last season.
  7. Reyes and Wainright are still more than enough to get that deal done.
  8. It might be worth selling the farm just to block that deal.

  10. Well cancel out Shoppach and add Bigbie. Do they even have a place for him to play? I'd guess this definitely means Huff is gone for sure now. Bigbie's gonna be getting some sweet frequent flier miles this weekend. Whose reporting this by the way? Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus. He says its Bigbie for Adam Stern and Shoppach. He was going off a newspaper report that said it wasn't final though. His article (which is premium content on BP) includes no such disclaimer and describes the deal in the past tense. It's free this week: Saturday, July 30, 1:25 p.m. ET: Larry Bigbie wasn't in Colorado for long. Dan O'Dowd was able to flip him to the Red Sox for Rule 5 pick Adam Stern and prospect Kelly Shoppach, who replaces J.D. Closser as catcher of the always-moving future. Colorado took Bigbie over offers from other teams knowing that he was "flippable." Losing out on Eric Byrnes now makes Walt Jocketty work a bit harder. The Cards are thinking big with their acquisition, asking about Adam Dunn and Brian Giles.
  11. Is the BP info premium content? Or can I get it from their site?
  12. I thought Shopvac was a top catching prospect. Why the heck would they trade him for Bigbie? He's only a marginal ML outfielder.

  14. These are all great: Rotoworld http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playernews.asp?sport=MLB http://www.rotoworld.com/includes/topblurbs.asp?sport=MLB http://www.rotoworld.com/content/breakingnews.asp?sport=MLB kffl.com http://www.kffl.com/hotw/mlb
  15. If they're not already the youngest team in baseball, they will be soon - and probably by a lot.
  16. I hope this hasn't already been posted somewhere, but here's more in-depth info: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2120374
  17. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playernews.asp?sport=MLB Julio Lugo and Aaron Heilman have been added to the proposed three-team deal involving Manny Ramirez, with the Mets getting Lugo to play second base. Heilman would join the Rays and maybe get a rotation spot. Recent conversations have also involved the Red Sox, rather than the Rays, getting Mets outfielder Lastings Milledge, with Red Sox shortstop Hanley Ramirez going to Tampa Bay instead. It seems unlikely that the megadeal will go down, but even if it doesn't, both the Mets and Red Sox could look to work out smaller trades with Tampa Bay. Jul. 30 - 2:08 pm et Source: ESPN.com
  18. I'd be fine with Huff. Sounds to me like Hendry is playing his cards perfectly once again, working those phone lines and moving on to someone else when the opposing GM continues asking for too high of a price. Of course, some of these GM's might have better offers on hold that they are waiting to see if something better comes along before agreeing to terms. For example, the Dodgers might have an offer good enough for Dunn and Cincy is waiting to see if Hendry will make a better offer. I would just love to be a fly on the wall in the war room on trade deadline weekend. Unfortunately, changing gears from Texas to Tampa only means that the offers will get even more ridiculous. Lamar won't stop at Pie - he'll probably ask for Zambrano. Jeez, he's probably just pompous enough to ask for Prior.
  19. They were about to give up more just to get Huff and Baez. You can replace Hanley with their pitching prospect, and I think you can get it done. BTW, Kent is a good enough LOOGY to look really nice to a team like Boston who have pen issues. They actually weren't getting Baez. They were getting Cameron, but that's beside the point. Point is they're giving up a TON of talent and only getting back one difference maker. That doesn't seem like a deal Theo would make to me. The would also be shedding Manny's contract for 2006-7, when he's a 10-5 guy, and thus harder to deal. That would have value to Theo, since it would allow them to pursue Burnett in the offseason as well as other players. I think the only realistic way to get Manny from the Sox without another team is for: Patterson (Substitute for Cameron) Burnitz (Substitue for Huff) Hill (Icing on cake because C-Pat and Burny aren't as good as Cam & Huff) The Sox would probably send us back a token prospect or take on a salary dump like Remlinger. I would probably do this since Murton would take Burnitz' place. I think Burnitz would be important for the BoSox since they need a MLB ready guy to help them now. Patterson could replace Damon next year and Hill is a top prospect. It may look like too much, but I would probably do it.
  20. Me? Come on. Mr. Bruce Miles is definitely the right answer. Hey, I give credit where credit is due. You're as reliable as a...really reliable source? I dunno. Did someone say Dunn? OMG we're getting Adam Dunn? Holy Crap someone call Bruce Levine!
  21. Don't feel bad, they have no fans and their GM is an idiot.
  22. I think you have waaaaay too much time on your hands. JK
  23. I heard his swing has the 12-month flu.
  24. Hey - here's an idea: We should go after Adam Dunn! He might be available since the Reds are just about out of the pennant race. He's a great OBP guy, too. dunn post>
