  1. I wouldn't fall in love with that curveball either. Right-handed batters aren't fooled by it. His fastball is far from being a 'plus' pitch.
  2. I was comparing Hill to a young Shawn Estes, and 89 MPH is not very hard for a fastball. He doesn't throw with any movement, from what I've seen his fastball is straight as an arrow. Maybe Kearns isn't the right move. But I think Hill is a very tradeable commodity. After thinking about it for a few minutes I thought about the prospect of Murton and Pie playing left and center and that maybe looking for a LF right now is not a priority. But I think if we can get some real major league talent for Hill we need to take it. We can't fall in love with all of our prospects. We'll never see 80% of them play anyways. Especially with Dusty here through the end of next season.
  3. I would do that. I like Hill's curve, but I don't see him having any other major league pitch. He's a lot closer to Shawn Estes than he is Barry Zito. With the 'wealth' of pitching prospects we have, I'd definitely roll the dice here.
  4. Mark Prior, Kerry Wood, Juan Cruz. Farther back - Jerome Walton & Dwight Smith.
  5. Is there a game tonight...If so the lineup is: J. Hairston Jr. cf 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .267 T. Walker 1b 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .290 A. Ramirez 3b 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .302 M. Barrett c 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .255 J. Burnitz rf 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .275 N. Perez 2b 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .262 R. Cedeno ss 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .222 M. Murton lf 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .000 C. Zambrano p 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .216 Interesting... Didn't realize this was in game threads also...feel free to remove.
  6. He would have to be healthy, off the DL, and playing by July 31 to be able to trade him.
  7. This move has been made solely to send a message to the players on the ML team. It's management saying nobody's safe, so shape up or ship out. It's pretty obvious to me. The message may slightly be to Baker, but his time will come if they keep losing. I actually won't mind if they tank the next two if it meant bye-bye to Johnny B. Give the job to Ryno or Grady Little, or someone who cares.
  8. Monday: 12:00 p.m. Noon with Boers and Bernstein Thursday: 8:20 a.m. with The Mike North Morning Show Friday: 5:20 p.m. with Doug Buffone and Mike Mulligan http://670thescore.com/info/scoreinfo05.shtml
  9. I am a huge fan of Boers and Bernstein, and like many wasn't so sure I liked them at first. Some people take them way too seriously and that's too bad because they don't take themselves seriously. People have to understand that they can be antagonistic and it's all part of the show. If you want 'serious' sports talk, you'll have to go listen to the 'Jim Rome Show'. He's not funny at all. I, like many others, need more than just sports news when I'm out in the field working.
  10. Thanks for clarification, I should have checked his option status, so, nuke my idea, there's no way he'll clear waivers. I don't think this is an 'option year' however I believe the Cubs still possess options on him to have the ability to send him down. I heard that about a week ago.
  11. As I was perusing the Rangers stats I noticed something that really stood out to me. Despite a .308 OBP, Alfonso Soriano is tearing it up. He's got 58 Runs scored and 52 Runs Batted In while batting .276. The way most fans here are talking, I would have thought he was batting .220 with 30 Runs & 30 RBI. I'm a big 'moneyball' follower but you can't argue with the fact that he finds ways to score and knock in runs.
  12. Oh yeah, note to self, the Cubs aren't poor and can afford to bring in Dunn. -That's right they're cheap, not poor.
  13. And yes, his numbers are better away from Arlington. They are both sabermetric wet dreams and Dellucci hits for average with a tiny contract. Sure he's older, but he'd come on the cheap in comparison. The only problem is that if I was in charge of the Rangers I wouldn't let him go. My solution: Offer them Rusch or Mitre plus a prospect of little consequence and see if they want to get the pitching boost. I realize that picking up Dellucci is not a marquee move, but it would leave room for other deals that could help CF or the bullpen.
  14. Dunn deal? As of Monday afternoon, Astros owner Drayton McLane said general manager Tim Purpura had not asked him to approve a trade for Cincinnati slugger Adam Dunn, a New Caney High graduate. According to a report, the Astros have been working on a deal to acquire Dunn for prospects Ezequiel Astacio, Taylor Buchholz and Fernando Nieve. "He hasn't brought anything to me," McLane said of Purpura. "That's why you're catching me totally off guard. I don't know of anything like that, but we would have to look at what we'd have to give up. "You look at each of the last six years, we've given up two to four players every year. So it catches up to you." Purpura later told the Chronicle the rumored trade was a "media fabrication." http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/3252593 If this turns out to be true, I'm going to injure myself. If Hendry doesn't get involved and become a player for someone like Dunn, and then the team behind us who bumped us off last year does it again I'll be done with this team. It won't be worth watching the rest of the year because the conclusion will be all too obvious.
  15. I think that the word 'prospect' should be used loosely here. A lot of times when talking about trades we throw that word out for one end of the deal, but in this case what we would get in return is a 'minor leaguer'. Prospect is a term for someone who has the potential to make an impact on the major league level. We must realize that if we trade Remlinger, we shouldn't have any expectations for the player we get in return. Remlinger has hinted at retirement even before the season and I think he realizes that he has nothing left in the tank. I realistically believe he'll be the next to be designated for assignment if a roster spot is needed. I like the guy but his ship has sailed.
  16. The only problem with a 100mph fastball and 72mph knuckleball is that a batter can look for one or the other. The pitcher would be putting every bit of effort into his windup and delivery on the fastball and relaxing with a different grip on his knuckler. You could tell which one was coming every time out. Look at how Wakefield throws his 69mph fastball, he looks like he's lobbing it up there every time. The other thing is that 99% of pitchers have a 4-seamer as their primary pitch. The 2-seamer is rarely, if ever someones primary pitch. A knucklecurve would be an easier way to go about offsetting a heater fastball, ala Mussina & Isringhausen. I think the idea with the knucklecurve is that you can put a little more arm speed and torque on it to disguise it.
  17. Sorry if it's been addressed but I didn't see it discussed anywhere.
  18. The problem with dealing with Atlanta is that we're competing for the Wild Card with them. They're not going to want to help us, and we shouldn't be looking to improve any of their weaknesses. Just my opinion.
  19. The following is a list of guys that might be available for the right price. Some of them are at about five years of service on small market clubs (Wells), so although I might be dreaming, anything is possible. Feel free to add your own candidates, and feel free to shoot mine down. M. Kotsay - 8 A. Huff - 7 A. Kearns - 7 M. Alou - 5 P. Feliz - 4 B. Kielty - 4 D. Delucci - 5 R. Ibanez - 4 V. Wells - 2 R. Winn - 4 M. Lawton - 7 C. Lee - 2 B. Clark -5 J. Encarnacion - 8 E. Brown - 6 *Adam Dunn - 3 *Andruw Jones - 3 *Preston Wilson - 10 (ick) The number to the right of each players name is my guess on a scale of 1-10 on the availability how "gettable" that player is for Jim Hendry.
  20. I doubt it's imminent. Why would Colorado be in search of another shortstop even if Barmes doesn't play another game this year. I would think they'd target another position.
