  1. And then add in the fact that you could prolly spit over the LF fence, and I am NOT surprise that Moyer elected NOT to go to a hitter's paradice. Good point. Minute Maid and SafeCo are pretty much the two extremes of MLB ballparks.
  2. Uh...no, cause I seriously doubt they would want Marquis, considering they already unloading his twin (Tim Redding) on the Yanks. ANY discussions for Giles would start off with Anythony Reyes, and Hawksworth or Wainworth. Book it. In other words, don't expect the Cards land any BIG name OFer. Are Hawksworth and Wainworth related? And is Anythony Reyes related to Everythony Reyes? Just wondering...
  3. From KFFL.com Twins | Inquired About Soriano Sat, 30 Jul 2005 21:33:03 -0700 Associated Press reports the Minnesota Twins have inquired about Texas Rangers 2B Alfonso Soriano.
  4. TexasCub's right. Epstein nearly traded Shoppach for - and get this - Larry Bigbie. Ick. The trade was pending Ownership approval and was turned down but Colorado got Bigbie for the Sox anyway and is stuck with him now. And boy are the Rockies pissed.
  5. frankly, i highly doubt it. only the red sox know how dire this situation is. from a bargaining perspective, they're not going to come out and say "WE WANT THIS GUY OUT AT ALL COUNTS". if he's not traded, then i think they can live with him. if he's traded for sergio mitre, then i guess they wanted him out. I do realize that it would take more than Patterson and Mitre/Rusch. That's why I said prospect package. Those guys are just the major league ready guys who can help them now (maybe). Two or more additional talented prospects would have to go in the deal - but under the conditions of my scenario - Pie and Hill might not have to get shipped. But the situation would need to be dire. If it were me in JH's position, I'd probably consider sending Pie or Hill in the deal. Especially if they were to add $15 Million back in the deal. EDIT: Burnitz would almost definitely have to be included in the deal as well. But it's okay because we got this Murton guy.
  6. Sometimes I think that many of the people at ESPN (Olney and Gammons in particular) are so preoccupied with the teams from the northeast and what they are doing that the overlook the rest of the world. It's not your imagination.
  7. No. But being a guy who wants to see every possibility exhausted to get Manny to the Cubs, I'd sure love to think that way! From the looks of it, the Red Sox are being super agressive right now. According to BP they're pursuing trades for Guardado, Dunn, Wagner or a Mets OF. Not to mention the grumblings about JC Romero.
  8. It just occurred to me that this Manny thing could turn into a Sammy situation. Wait - Wait - Wait! I'm not talking about his contract. I'm talking about us 'needing' to remove Sammy from this team at all costs. If nothing gets done with the Mets and the BoSox get desperate that could be a great opportunity for JH to swoop in and get Manny at a bargain $ price and package a more palatable prospect package with say Patterson and Mitre (or Rusch), Realistic?
  9. Milledge is better than Pie, and Cameron is a little better than Gerut. So it would definitely take Pie. At least in that incarnation of the deal. So then we give em' Pie and Juan Incarnation - I heard he's on the block!
  10. http://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=4274 The Mariners also completed a deal with Houston that would have moved Jamie Moyer for two prospects, one of which was starter Fernando Nieve. Moyer invoked his 10-and-5 rights and the deal was scotched. Houston does not expect to make another deal, but the Mariners have talked with Moyer about teams to which he would accept a deal.
  11. I'd gladly do it, but there is about as much chance of the Cubs landing Manny as there is me getting struck by lightning 5 times between now and the trade deadline. So you're sayin' there's a chance.....
  12. Do you think Dante Bichette will bat 3rd or 4th?? I was thinking about Bichette the other day. What ever happened to him. I know that he obviously retired, but I don't ever remember hearing about it or anything. More strictly enforced drug policy?
  13. Manny Ramirez - OF - Red Sox The Baseball Tonight crew has learned that Manny Ramirez will not be traded, ESPNews reports. OK. Ramirez was scratched tonight and the Red Sox still aren't saying why. His hamstring may be giving him problems again, but it's not just that. Jul. 30 - 7:15 pm et EDIT: My thoughts: If he's not being traded, then why take him out of the lineup again. BB2N might be jumping the gun here. EDIT #2: ESPNews is showing "Manny Ramirez not going to Mets". So it must mean he's coming to the Cubs - likely for Todd Hollandsworth and a PTBNL.
  14. Interesting indeed... but then again, did any of the supposed Dodgers who would have been in a "Manny trade" get scratched from their game today vs StL - or CWS or Angels? I didn't realize those teams had proposed deals with Boston. They might not have had any proposed deals that "sources" knew about, but didn't I read on here in one of the threads that the CWS, Angels, and Dodgers were all interested in Manny, along with the Cubs? And of course the BOS/NYM/TB deal. What BOS/NYM/TB deal? I hadn't heard about that one at all...

  16. Fuel for speculation: Huff and Cameron are in the games for their respective teams...
  17. Thanks Penguin -- its more for the sanity of the forum than for me though -- it would get nuts if new threads were created with every update we're getting as the deadline approaches. Just thought it was an important update for those not reading the Manny threads. My bad.
  18. Manny Ramirez - OF - Red Sox Manny Ramirez was pulled from the Boston lineup about 10 minutes before gametime tonight. Did he ask out because of the trade talk or is something getting done? We'll probably know something soon. Jul. 30 - 6:58 pm et That's for you Windy. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  19. Could a deal be getting done right now? Manny Ramirez - OF - Red Sox Manny Ramirez was pulled from the Boston lineup about 10 minutes before gametime tonight. Did he ask out because of the trade talk or is something getting done? We'll probably know something soon. Jul. 30 - 6:58 pm et
  20. Update (Per Rotoworld.com via ESPN) Alfonso Soriano - 2B - Rangers ESPN's Jayson Stark believes the Twins have a chance of acquiring Alfonso Soriano from the Rangers using J.C. Romero, Kyle Lohse and Bret Boone. The Mets and Cubs also remain possibilities for Soriano, although the best guess now is that he remains a Ranger until the offseason. Jul. 30 - 6:44 pm et
