Sorry, you took me too literally at '10 times' the hitter. But the fact is that Manny is a "real" hitter, who hits to all fields and has real hitting ability with the strength of a slugger. Sammy was not a great hitter, he was above average at best. Manny's dominance has been sustained over his whole career and to me he's 1.20 X's the hitter Sammy ever was.

I'll give SweetEmotion some credit because whether he was boasting the correct info about his source or not - he still scooped everyone else. To the 't' he described all of the players involved and was trashed for it. I think some people are ignoring the facts and trying to cover something else up. Let's not forget that he had a huge head start on the Cincy media - and I wouldn't put it past him to have said his mole was within the Reds to either - lend more credibility to his story - or to cover his buddy's tracks so that it didn't get back to his friend the beat-writer. I'm not trying to start anything, but Marty Brennamen said it was Hendry who told him that Hill, CP, and Mitre was too steep of a price for Dunn. My wife and I both heard it listening to the game today (She's a Reds fan unfortunately). Hal McCoy, the HOF Writer for the Dayton Daily News, agreed that it was too much to give up for Dunn. It may sound crazy, but this is what transpired. You could hear Marty yell "bye Jim" right before he went into the story on the air. As crazy as this all sounds, I'm 100% positive this is what I heard. McCoy loves Hill, and he has stated this in the past in some of his columns. That's all I got... I'd do Patterson and Mitre for Dunn in a second. Maybe the Reds would do Patterson/Mitre/Wellemeyer? I'd have done the original deal...but I'm trying to understand why Jim values Hill so much. I guess the real question is...did the Reds make that offer or is this whole thread a bunch of horse puckey. The way it was stated earlier was that Hendry turned down an actual offer. Maybe he's just posturing to weasel some of the players involved.

I personally doubt that the Reds broadcasters follow a Cubs MB. They could have heard the same rumor that SE heard. Anything's possible. Either way, it doesn't look like a deal's gonna happen but at least something has confirmed SE.

Just because he is in the lineup, doesn't mean anything. Players have started a game, and have been removed DURING the game, as a trade gets closer to being finalized. It has happened numerous times before. The Reds still have to do their best to win every time they get on the field so Narron shouldn't care if a deal is proposed or even close. If I was in his place I'd want Dunn it the lineup today.

Allow me to reopen Dunn speculation... Baker and Hendry are starting Burnitz in CF because that's where they're planning on playing him for the rest of the season. Dunn will be in left and Gerut/Holly/Murton will play RF. Of course this means Hairston has been added to the list of players moving to Cincinatti.

I'm sure he'll do fine in center. But why bench Hairston and move the outfield around rather than just giving Burny the night off? Or why not just sit Hollandsworth? Man Dusty is stupid. I think it's because with Dunn in right and Gerut in left Burnitz has to have a position somewhere...
