  1. The Boss is going to be starting tomorrow's game thread for his first appearance this season.
  2. Well, that shouldn't be allowed.
  3. Did Derwood go on vacation?
  4. Sorry, davhern, it's fixed now. Seems that the people agree that the best game thread starters should go in the playoffs.
  5. Start a poll, Raisin! Majority decides.
  6. There wasn't a game thread forum in '03. People would start game threads in discussions. In '04 the game thread starters with the best records did the final few weeks of the season. I moved all the game threads here that I could find from '03 (including all the playoff threads), but the automatic database pruning wiped the old posts out. I'm in favor of just sticking with the order that we have established, but am open to other ideas.
  7. Yup. Thank God. Between Wrigley and Soldier Field, Chicago sucks at keeping grass healthy It was supposed to be, but there was talk about a month ago that the sale of the team may mean that project is put on hold indefinitely. I don't know if that's been resolved.
  8. ha. Pat: Edmonds thought that was outside, and he walks away from the plate on a little Protest Stroll.
  9. I listened to a bit of the Cards-Reds radio broadcast yesterday, and Thom Brennamen was already complaining about how many Cubs fans will be at that series and urging Reds fans to buy their tickets now!
  10. Sorry about the game thread confusion, but I think it's sorted out now. Flames is the current starter; davhern's on deck; and down the stretch if someone misses their start, they get to wait 'til next year for their next game thread start. Sound about right?
  11. Overnight is relative in this situation. If the choice is between ownership changing the philosophy of the team or not winning the division changing the philosophy of the team, I'd still bet on ownership changes having a greater impact in the short and the long term. If the Trib holds off on indefinitely on selling the team because of Zell turbulence ... I still don't see what happens in the next couple of weeks as having a huge impact on how the Trib chooses to run the team between now and next season.
  12. There were mighty long losing streaks in the past that didn't result in drastic philosophical changes. The team is being sold. Who buys it and how they choose to run it will influence the future philosophy more so than whether the team wins the division this season.
  13. Lou and Derrek Lee both mentioned the baserunning in their public comments, so I have the impression that it will be mentioned privately as well. As for being coached prior to meeting the media -- there was a game going on, and the post-game media sessions start shortly after the game ends. Given what happened the last time someone went to talke with an unhappy Z in the midst of a game, I can understand why there wasn't a line of teammates and coaches there to console and mentor him.
  14. If we wait for the perfect team, the perfect management staff, the perfect front office and the perfect situation, it may take a lot longer than 99 more years.
  15. Yes. The organization apart from ownership could stand learning how to win. They're in first place. They should win this division. Take it from there.
  16. The HR Derby team thread hasn't been updated since I did it last. Southpaw doesn't use that list and updates as he goes through this thread.
  17. Sorry, I just logged on, but it looks like Fred picked up the start. Thanks, Fred! Roast, you start tomorrow. If you miss another start, you'll have to go to the reserve list while you enjoy college. :) I added you to the spot starter list, soriano.
  18. Then don't read back through the threads... Seriously, why are people surprised by the emotion people show on game threads? Cubs fans in general are in emotional flux and if you can't understand why then you aren't a Cubs fan... No need to toss out accusations against someone who has proven his 'Cubs fandom' over the past several years. As it says on the top of the page, there are still standards that apply to game threads. If people can't control what spews out of their keyboards during game threads, they'll have to find someplace else to post. Some people have gone to AIM chats, you can check the social forum for details.
