  1. Do you think the high-fived when they passed each other? Johnny Damon also went to Yocum. Sounds like a party. Bruce Miles with some additional quotes:
  2. When I tuned in, Wood was already talking. If anyone heard the first part, chime in. Andy Masur did the interiew; I assume it was taped. Maybe they'll put up the audio in a few days. Knee feels great and felt fine right after the surgery - better walking on it than sitting down. He did a lot of lower half work in the off-season while rehabbing his shoulder, worked on a lot of 'balance stuff' and that helped with the knee surgery. He's tired of the injuries and problems popping up and knows everyone else, too. Nothing he can do but get back to work and focus on coming back and pitching. Intends to remain a starter, believes he still has a lot of innings left in him. He was fine with bullpen work last season because he knew it was the only thing he could bring to the table and the only way he could help the team. Still things he wants to accomplish as a starter. He closed with saying good things about the current team -- great mix, working hard, want to win, good clubhouse types, etc. Afterwards Kap took calls from angry Cubs fans.
  3. Wood is supposed to be a guest on WGN radio Sports Central at some point tonight.
  4. Updated Trib article
  5. I'm not so sure that the Cubs spring training camp is the best place to be to avoid fluke injuries / illnesses ...
  6. Sounds like Lee has already been in to see Yocum.
  7. Cubs Year-by-Year Attendance (I almost posted the link earlier, but got distracted)
  8. Keep in mind that DLee was already in the L.A. area because of the WBC. This actually makes sense to me as a precautionary measure.
  9. That is worth remembering. I'm more concerned that this repeated pattern of constant injuries is just another indication of an organizational problem with player health management.
  10. Here's the thing: it seems an equally unlikely scenario to me now that Will Carroll completely made up the report of Prior having an injury -- or pain, whatever you prefer -- that now, 3 weeks later, it seems apparent that Prior does in fact have. So this annonymous Will Carroll source knew of this 3 weeks ago ... but the Cubs didn't? If they did know, then it would seem that the truly "precautionary" measure would have been to have him completely checked out at that time. Why wait? If they didn't know, maybe they need to develop some annonymous sources of their own.
  11. There was a blurb in one of the Cubs.com articles that Sing was having problems with allergies / his contact lenses getting too dry and was having to switch to glasses, which made him uncomfortable hitting. That was given as a reason he hadn't been playing at all lately.
  12. From the same article.
  13. Whoa, that sounded like an interesting play to see!
  14. Howry now pitching. Neifi now playing SS. ETA: Pie in CF Coats out there somewhere Dope at 1B
  15. The pitcher Livingston apparently made a really nice jump-and-stab play to rob Cedeno of a hit. :(
  16. "Goodbye, baseball!" 2R HR for Sexson off Dempster They'll be doing an interview with Ryne Sandberg after the game. Don't know if that will be included on gameday audio or not.
  17. Mariners announcers are surprised with all the first pitch swinging of the Cubs. "I wonder if it has anything to do with Dusty Baker."
  18. I wasn't thrilled with the WBC concept, but the games have definitely won me over. I think they need to work out some issues ... and I expect they will given the reception it has received.
  19. I was confused by that, but thinking it through, if Japan were to beat Mexico tonight and Korea tomorrow (and the U.S. beats Mexico Thursday) you'd have a 3-way 2W-1L tie with this scenario: Japan beat Korea, Japan would advance. Korea beat the U.S., Korea would advance. The U.S. beat Japan, the U.S. would advance. So you'd move to the second tiebreaker, which is * The tied teams shall be ranked in the standings for that Round according to fewest runs allowed divided by the number of innings (including partial innings) played in defense in the games in that Round between the teams tied. The U.S. has already given up 10 runs vs. Japan and Korea. So it would be best for the U.S. if Mexico were to win tonight, then lose Thursday to the U.S. If Japan beats Mexico but loses to Korea ... and if the U.S. loses to Mexico ... then it would seem to get very interesting: Korea: 3-0 advances Japan: 1-2 (losses to Korea, US) runs allowed to U.S.: 4 Mexico: 1-2 (losses to Korea, Japan) U.S.: 1-2 (losses to Korea, Mexico) runs allowed to Japan: 3 Think that call vs Japan might get even more scrutiny then?
  20. According to the Mariners 3/13 Press Pass, the following pitchers are scheduled to appear: Seattle: RH Jesse Foppert, LH Bobby Livingston, LH George Sherrill, LH Luis Gonzalez, RH Francisco Cruceta CUBS: RH Jerome Williams, RH Ryan Dempster, RH Bobby Howry
  21. Excellent! I like the Koreans being a Cinderella team in their powder blue unis and the big-K hats. The manager gets very catankerous when asked who the starting pitcher will be, which amuses me.
