  1. It's a lot easier to hear the boos and heckles when no one is cheering for you. I sense a vicious cycle at play here.
  2. Another hit and rbi for Jake Fox. 8-6 Daytona
  3. Dusty's awake! Good, I've thought he's been too passive on some calls. Man, that was close. Nice K, though.
  4. It was lovely to see it replayed 15 times. It looked worse each time.
  5. I think he matched his walk total for his previous starts tonight. I haven't heard pitch totals mentioned, but have emailed the broadcaster. I was keeping pitches for the first couple of innings, but my brother & his family stopped by, so I dropped it. Now 7-5 Daytona, Hammerheads have runners on the corners with 2 outs. Both Jupiter runs this inning are unearned on a throwing error by Perez. Phelps now in for Daytona. 7-6 Daytona on a single up the middle. Runners on 1st & 2nd, still two outs. WP = runners at 2nd & 3rd, 2 outs Fantastic play on a high bouncer by Daytona SS Daniel Gonzalez ends the inning. 7-6 Daytona to the bottom of the 6th.
  6. Even last year when Z was locked in, he'd often have problems with his control in the 1st inning or so. He has a lot of movement on his pitches and it takes him a few pitches to settle in. The main blow today came in the 1st inning. I'm concerned about his BB rate this season, but I don't think giving up 3 runs over 7 innings is a crime.
  7. 7-3 Daytona to the 6th Gallagher is done, and I just missed hearing who is currently pitching for Daytona. Gallagher's line: 5IPs, 8H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 1K, 10GO/3FO 8H: 1 double, 7 singles (4 infield singles) ETA: Carlos Perez is now pitching
  8. 3-run HR by Ryan Harvey, his 5th of the season 6-3 Daytona, bottom 5th
  9. 3-3 tie, bottom of the 5th! Fuld lays down a bunt to advance two baserunners, but the pitcher throws it past 3B trying to get the lead runner. E-1, two runs score.
  10. Guys, please watch the language in the game thread. I just hope all the talk of the no-no earlier doesn't go the wrong way. :x
  11. bunt single to lead off the 5th for Jupiter. The Hammerheads have 4 infield hits so far.
  12. Wowzers!!! Nic Jackson *just* misses a HR to lead off the bottom of the 4th and settles for a double instead. ...And the Daytona Cubs can't get him in. 3-1 Jupiter to the 5th.
  13. He's made me really nervous when he's come close to doing that in the past.
  14. He's on fire. Is he DHing tonight? He's catching, Nic Jackson is DHing tonight.
  15. 3-1 Jupiter - Jake Fox hit a solo HR, his 4th of the season.
  16. 2-0 Jupiter in the 2nd Gallagher having some trouble locating his pitches (1BB so far, but a lot of near misses on called pitches).
  17. Totally true! I'm not a Dusty fan. But he's got charisma. He really does.
  18. I've said before that I believe that pitching the innings has been undervalued by the organization and by fans. He hasn't had just one great month. He's lead the Cubs in innings pitched since he's arrived. He had 19 wins '04-'05; Z had 20 in the same stretch. Maybe wins are overvalued. The fact remains that you have to pitch actual innings in order to accrue them. The "alleged arms" quote says it all. In terms of the dollars invested -- not even counting this year -- Maddux has been the least of the Cubs problems. I haven't asked people to eat crow, though others have. I have been steadfast in believing and expressing that the Maddux signing has been worth the money paid straight up -- not even comparing it to the dollars paid out to other players and pitchers who haven't had the oppportunity to play or pitch and put up the stats for people to approve of.
