the shear number of CB's on this roster should facilitate one taking on the S position, quantity is a quality. But I get what you are saying about forcing Jackson to play up as opposed to the single high pos he excels at. He is a big boy. Maybe Pace thinks there will be some talent at the safety position cut in the next wave of roster moves.

Why is Clowney still available? Are you under the impression that anyone that isn't currently signed is no good? I wouldn't take that stance. Sometimes a player is not as good as he thinks he is for the money he is asking for. There are plenty of reasons someone might not be signed right now.

Last I saw, Eric Berry was still a free agent. He took a whole year off to nurse his injuries. Fresh legs. Looks like there are some other options that could be brought in as well. Tony Jefferson and Tavon Wilson to name a few.

Not sure I understand the Vildor pick. Unless they think of one of the CB's already on the roster could convert to safety, there is now a plethora of depth guys on the roster. Assuming one of Roberson, Toliver or Johnson wins the spot opposite Fuller, you also have Shelley, Denmark, Burns, Crawford, Skrine, McManus and Joseph on the roster.

Which was a question I pondered before the draft began. If Kmet is there, do you pass him by given the instability of the TE position on this team. I read that there were rumors that Pace was thinking about trading up to get someone. Whether that was Kmet or not, I'm not sure. Maybe it was Hurts. I'm just glad he didn't do that, especially if it was Kmet that he didn't want to risk being drafted before 43. I don't blame Pace for drafting Trubisky. I do blame him for trading up to get him. That was a foolish move considering that if someone did jump the Bears to take him, Watson still would have been there to take with the 3rd pick. Maybe Watson wasn't the right kind of pedigree for the style offense they wanted. Maybe then you trade down and pick up some picks and then get Mahomes a bit later. I don't think there is any way to possibly defend the trade up, so I'm not going to say Pace does no wrong. But, at least he didn't give up more draft capital to move up to draft someone this time. At least not yet.

Montgomery is a fine RB. The problem last year was the inability to spread the field so that running lanes could be created. Get a QB in there that can actually hit an open receiver, get a TE in there that can catch the ball that will knock down double teaming of the receivers and Montgomery will excel. The entirety of the 2019 season was Trubisky's inability to scare the defense, which handicapped the entire playbook.

I do not believe that is close to being consensus. Plus why would anyone give Pace’s draft picks the benefit of the doubt. Because one draft pick failure does not necessarily mean all other draft picks will be failures. GM's miss out on picks all of the time. There are plenty of draft picks starting for the Bears, so I don't know why we can't give the benefit of the doubt when they weren't "reaches". I guess I'm just not at the doom and gloom stage of my fandom. The defense is among the best in the league. A more capable QB with some added weapons on offense could make their 2020 look more like 2018 than 2019.

I do not believe that is close to being consensus. You are right. But Kiper did have Kmet ranked 29th and Jaylon Johnson ranked 44th, so the value is there based on his analysis. Not sure how you rate Kiper's analysis, but I've always respected it.

I really don't understand all of the "we have 10 TE's in camp" comments. Several of those guys were on the roster last year and TE was a huge black hole on offense and in an offense that heavily utilizes the TE position. It seems like Pace had that vision in mind when he drafted Shaheen and added Burton. Unfortunately, neither of those guys worked out. Mahomes has Kelce. Wentz has Ertz and Goedert. Foles can't or couldn't go into this season with Holtz and Harris as his primary TE's. The Graham signing made me cringe. He hasn't shown much the last few years. However, he will potentially excel in 2 TE sets and having him there so that Kmet can be an understudy in training camp should be a bonus. This team needed help at that position. There is no denying that Pace has spent more time at that position than any other, but it is a position of need if this offense is going to take a step forward. They've got 5 picks today that they can find competition at S, EDGE, ILB, OL, QB, WR and RB. Pace has done a pretty good job of landing quality guys in the later rounds and even a few finds in UDFA. The consensus is that both of the 2nd round picks were 1st round talent, so that's what I'm hanging my hat on. Putting Graham in a heavy TE oriented offense might just be the motivation he needs to make a last stand while Kmet learns the ropes. I love the Olsen comparisons. That was the biggest head scratching trade of the Martz era. I get that he wasn't a blazing fast WR for his offensive scheme, but he was a pass catching WR and getting rid of him left a huge hole at that position for years.

Another thing to consider is Paces affinity for trading future picks. He could do that today. Trading next year's picks is kind of interesting though. I feel pretty confident that the major conferences will have a season in some form, but I could see a lot of seasons cancelled in the sub-Power 5 conferences. And even among the power 5 you could see stretched of seasons cancelled in response to local outbreaks. So that probably makes the traditional valuation of trading future picks tough (in addition to unknowns about the combine/draft process next spring). Given the strength of the safety position from the best availables, I'm going to assume the Bears get one of those guys. Seems like there are 4 rock solid S's to pick from at 43 (Chinn being the only one not listed on Raw's top 10). Although I know it's time to restock the OT position, I kinda don't see them doing that this year since whoever they draft won't likely see the field this year. They don't have the luxury of stockpiling future talent this year given the lack of quality picks. I'll be interested to see if they pass on Kmet if he's available with their 2nd pick.

I graduated from high school in Central Illinois in 1982, so I was right there for all of his amazing career. Just didn't get as many televised games in the Peoria area. No one will ever be better than him in my eyes.

With the signing of Ifedi, the Bears can most certainly go in a lot of directions. I fully expect them to trade one of the 2nd's to add an extra pick to grab a QB. I doubt they extend Trubisky, and Foles has a contract that allows him to opt out as soon as next year. Given the aforementioned QB situations, QB is probably one of the most important positions of need for the Bears in the draft this year.

So depending on the nature of the incentives that sounds like it gives the Bears some cap wiggle room, if they're not likely to be earned incentives. Though if he hits them, they will take that cap hit eventually. They are saying the current cap flexibility is 9m, but the Ifedi deal is still pending. They can still rework ARob's contract as well. I would like to see them be able to add some guys when the later roster cuts start happening.

Well the Bears don't have anything from pick 50 to 163 in the 5th now. They might move around, and Pace is always game to trade future picks, but as it stands, they could miss on that tier 3 QB prospect too. Oh that's right, I forgot that Pace decided to flush our 4th away for Foles. Fantastic. Gambling on a 4th round QB in the draft or trading that pick for an established starter in Foles. I'll take the Foles trade.

I kind of expect to see them use one of the 2nd's and then trade down with the other. If they can gather an early 4th, I could see them go after Jake Fromm. There does seem to a be lot of interest in the Georgia program. Is it entirely coincidental that there are currently 3 rostered WR's from Georgia?
