    Week 13

Can't say I didn't warn you. :P Damn bottomfeeder. You did turn around that team pretty fast. I'm in fire sale mode, not turnaround mode. :D
  2. Maybe the fans were booing the whole team because Jones has clearly been one of our best hitters this season.
  3. If for no other reason than the fact Palmeiro ratted out Tejada. He might as well get started writing his own book. Well, wait. Maybe he should wait until he's been rejected from the Hall of Fame first.

    Can't say I didn't warn you. :P
  5. I guess that means Weaver will be a Cub very soon.
  6. Like we Cub fans have any room to talk. :D
  7. Welcome to the forum. Let's hope someone upstairs noticed the importance of increasing base runners.
  8. What exactly did he say that was any worse than what you said here? He didn't even use any different words than the ones you used. You both know better than that.
  9. How about following your own advice?
  10. Quoted for truth. Except in reality, that's not true. Nevin is hitting .231/.310/.346 in the last 7 days, with 1 RBI. And that's playing everyday, while Murton has been a pinch runner and occasional pinch hitter. Phil's got 1 extra base hit in his last 9 games, many of them against LHP. And Murton hits better than him against LHP. Nevin had an extremely brief (not to mention mild) hot streak when he first started playing for the Cubs. But he's been ice cold since, and has been ice cold for most of the year, and just as cold last year. He's a pinch hitter at best. If he's going to help the team, it's by getting an at bat a game hitting for the pitcher, and the occasional start. Anything more than that hurts the team's chances, both now, and in the future. I quoted it for truth because Dusty sees Nevin as the player that can help him improve his record much moreso than Murton no matter what the splits. I was in total agreement with the poster I quoted because of that. Not because I think Nevin should be playing over Murton.
  11. Go for it this year. Trade some of your minor leaguers for better pitching. With such a shortage of exempt players on your roster, a Brandon Wood and Delmon Young package to a bottom feeder team might net a couple of good starting pitchers to win your league. Next year, your roster will be depleted because of the low cap and scarcity of exempt players. You will also get a poor draft slot. I say go for the gusto and win your league this year. Then rebuild.
  12. There is also the possibility that a team signs a player prior to the arbitration deadline. However, I do not see that happening with Pierre. Just beg some team to give you whatever you can get and call it good. Another lesson learned. Wow. Cubs brass should be the most lesson learning group in baseball at this point.
  13. Under this regime, you are correct. It's probably not going to happen. Nomar: .424 Repko: .392 Martinez: .389 Kent: .377 Drew: .374 Ethier: .372 Navarro: .372 Aybar: .364 Martin: .363 Cruz Jr.: .362 Mueller: .357 Izturis: .355 Guzman: .348 Lofton: .346 Alomar Jr.: .345 Kemp: .343 Furcal: .337 17 Dodger players with a .337 OBP or higher. With a different front office, it could happen.
  14. Interestingly enough, the guys who you would rather be making contact are the guys drawing most of the walks. So, there is that argument. Instead of Lee walking 3 times, how about Pierre? Never happen. Pierre is such a non-threat with a bat, pitchers aren't afraid to run every pitch right down the heart of the plate.
  15. Yeah, that's the true depressing stat in my mind. They finally draw some base on balls, and still end up losing. But, even the better OBP teams in the league lose games after drawing a lot of walks. But, if they were to somehow keep up that pace, I think they'd actually win more than they lose. Instead, Dusty will be able to use the "walks clog the bases" argument all over again.
  16. A) Rebuild from scratch B) Pay top dollar for good players C) Pay top dollar for crap players They've tried C and it isn't working. I'm all for A or B at this point.
  17. I don't know. I'm only half watching today.
  18. Was it a bad throw or bad catch? Koskie stole on him earlier, now Lee. Not a good game throwing out runners. Definitely a bad throw. It sailed.
  19. Why do people constantly ignore NSBB policy, which is to attack the post, not the poster?
  20. There's a lot of other guys who hit garbage like that who don't ride the bench. Ya mean like Juan Pierre? Fake bunt attempt on a pitch right down broadway. Strike 2 on a pitch right down broadway. Soft grounder to the pitcher on a pitcher's pitch, outside of the zone.
  21. Walks responsible for Cubs scoring 2 runs. Too bad no one in the Cubs dugout will notice.
  22. I'm not attempting to make an argument against CLee. But, I don't like him if you are curious. That dirty play on Walker last year was uncalled for. I'd like to see a line up that featured .350+ OBP potential at every position. Not just potential, but rather likely. Instead of ignoring OBP completely like the front office has done for years now, I don't want a little emphasis on OBP. I want a lot. A lot is what it is going to take to turn this offense around.
  23. I'd bench the guys not putting forth the effort to teach them that it is important to put forth the the effort. If changes need to made on this ballclub, I'd start with getting rid of the guys who suck. You can teach or train effort. A much more difficult task would be to teach or train a player who sucks to not suck.
  24. When I saw Ramirez get thrown out at 2nd on that ball at the top of the wall, I thought he must have loafed also. But, after seeing a replay, he did not jog to 1b. His rocket shot off the wall was perfectly fielded coupled with a perfect throw barely nailed him as he slid into 2b. He was quick out of the box and didn't stand there and admire his work one bit. That was not a half-assed effort.
