  1. Batting average does mean nothing if that is all you are measuring. Sean Casey or Adam Dunn? Casey has a very respectable career AVG. Dunn does not. Who would you rather have? I'll take Dunn.
  2. No one will argue that a walk is better than a single. But, just to give you an idea how little the Cubs respect the walk, digest these numbers. Pay very close attention to these numbers: Cubs hitters this year: 669 hits Cubs opponents (you know, the teams that have held the Cubs to less than 30 wins so far this year): 639 hits The Cubs have outhit their opponents this year by 30 hits. Why do you suppose the Cubs have been outscored 392-298 if hits are so much better than walks? Because, the other team is getting on base more often than the Cubs Cubs hitters getting on base (minus HBP): 848 Cubs opponents getting on baes (minus HBP): 952 I'll take the guys who get on base more. Dunn gets on base more than Lee. But, this isn't factoring in what it would take to get these players.
  3. What a disappointing finish this is turning out to be. :pukel:
  4. If the Cubs banked all of their World Series hopes on 1 every 5th day pitcher, then they should be fired for banking all their hopes on 1 every 5th day pitcher. This team is not in the toilet because of Mark Prior. If he isn't worth anything to the Cubs and therefore tradeable for whatever they can get for him, what exactly makes him worth anything to any other team for them to be dumb enough to offer something for him? Simple question.
  5. Well, learn how to read first because this isn't a trade Prior thread. Secondly, I've probably made 5 or 6, with the last one being a month or so ago. What did Dusty do after Prior flipped over Marcus Giles and landed hard on his shoulder? Dusty sent him back out there. Just one of many examples of how Dusty has misused his pitchers. Exactly what would you expect to get from Mark Prior in trade if you were to just give up on him and now and make him available in trade? What will other teams give up for a guy no one knows will ever be right? Give a reasonable trade offer that someone would make at this time. Considering how poor his trade value is right now, why bother trading him? Is the player that the Cubs could net in trade going to somehow bring the Cubs back into playoff contention? He's either a sunk cost at this point as a low point, and becoming as dominant again as he was in 2003 as a high point. And then, there is also everything in between. If you aren't going to get anything significant in return for trading him, why not just gamble that he can at least get fully healthy with the potential to be an above average starter again someday?
  6. Darn that Goony guy for always assuming correctly. :D
  7. Goony worships the ground I walk on, so I'm not surprised. :D The streets and beaches of San Diego? That's true, I do. See, told ya!
  8. I think it would be hard to get motivated when the guy in charge of motivating you and making sound, practical decisions can't seem to motivate you or make sound, practical decisions. Last night late in the game, Nevin got to 1b. Dusty replaces Nevin with Murton. Not a bad plan. Actually a pretty good one. Cedeno first pitch bunts Murton to 2nd. Stupid, idiotic plan. It ended up working out because Murton ended up scoring in the inning, but what is the point of first pitch bunting after replacing the guy on 1b with a pinch runner? Couldn't Nevin have made it to 2nd on the bunt? Couldn't Murton have attempted to steal 2nd so that Cedeno could bunt him to 3rd if you're going to sacrifice? It's stupid decisions like this that, IMO, spread like a highly contagious disease throughout the rest of the team.
  9. No excuse for not wearing sunglasses on a day like this. I would expect something like this from a Cub outfielder, but a Brewer outfielder? Come on!
  10. Goony worships the ground I walk on, so I'm not surprised. :D
  11. Guess you've never watched a Barry Bonds at bat.

    Week 13

Verlander with more points all by himself than Johan Santana, Ian Snell, Derek Lowe and Anthony Reyes combined. :w00t:
  13. I wouldn't have an issue with this if they were open tryouts to replace the crap they keep running out on the field.
  14. By the way, Murton and Jones are both better players than Craig Monroe. A platoon of Craig Monroe and Marcus Thames? Probably not. But, Craig Monroe by himself? Absolutely.
  15. Yeesh. I was hoping someone would pipe up and explain that LaRoche needs to have his shoulder sewn back on, and Miller only recently had his shoulder sewn back on.
  16. He'll need to be traded for that to happen.
  17. I've been laughing at this organization for awhile now. I got a really good laugh last night when Dusty pulled Nevin for pinch runner Murton. First pitch, Cedeno lays down the bunt and advances Murton, something he could have just as easily done with Nevin on 1st. I guess there was no thought of maybe letting a pitch or two go by, hoping one hits the dirt. Or maybe even attempting to steal so Cedeno could bunt Murton to 3rd. It would make sense in that case.
  18. I think they should be able to get over it with the 4 easy victories they are getting this weekend Were the Brewer announcers also upset about the ump's missed call at third that allowed the Brewers to score the first run? I didn't see a tag. The angles I saw didn't show a tag. I also don't think he went out of the baseline. Maybe I missed the shot that showed that he was clearly tagged.
  19. I vote Zambrano for clean up. The Brewers announcers were none too happy about Zambrano's celebration as he circled the bases.

    Week 13

This would probably be as good a time as any to........ Zack "Cy Young" Jackson is available in trade. Stud All Star caliber player required in return. :D
  21. There's a useful stat. 5 ground balls to Koskie so far, courtesy of the idiots in the Brewers broadcast booth.
  22. Zach Jackson is pitching like Cy Young. Who couldn't have predicted that, however? Pierre has a 4th inning infield hit off the 3b.

    Week 13

Raw is not going to be happy with his pitching staff.
