  1. I don't remember anymore what his ailments were. Was it elbow or shoulder related?
  2. Bigger sample size? Okay. In each minor league stop that Hill had 200 or more at bats (which includes last year), he's never posted an OBP below .365. 2000- .442 2001- .396 2002- .382 2003 Iowa- .365 2006- .396 Not too shabby. Unfortunately, I think you end up with a big dip in his OBP production when he doesn't play much, something a 25th man not managed by Dusty Baker is usually accused of. But, I'll take the OBP improvement over the likes of Womack, Bynum, Neifi, Cedeno, etc. infinity. He'll have to really impress in the spring in order to bump someone from the 40 man roster and make the team. It is probably likely that Pagan will be the 25th man. #1, he's already on the 40 man roster. #2, Piniella will probably prefer outfield help that can play any of the outfield positions. There does seem to be quite a bottleneck at Iowa as well. Patterson, Moore and McGehee will be manning 2nd and 3rd. I'd like to see McGehee get some corner outfield work to possibly expand on his utility player value in 2008. There was talk of letting Patterson play some CF, but that won't be happening while Pie is in Iowa.
  3. Good news. You're actually another home run closer to breaking the record now, because Hank Aaron only hit 755. Yeah, only. :D
  4. Isn't he slightly ahead of Greg Maddox? Who? I think he meant Garry Maddox. However, Maddox had quite a few steals during his illustrious career. 248 to be exact.
  5. I don't remember "cutting" Bobby Hill. Jake is a Pirates fan. But, the Pirates didn't cut him either. They traded him to the Padres. He was traded after we DFA'd him. Technically that's a cut. :-) Did you get something for him? If so, technically, that's not a cut.

  7. Even worse is the fact that we are less than 7 days away from the start of early bird sign ups, and there still hasn't been an official announcement. I'm going to sign up on the 15th. I want my cable company to have to go to the trouble of refunding my money.
  8. And he only needs 273 more walks to make 500 in that category.
  9. Is Blasko done, or is he still in the system?
  10. I haven't heard yet. I'll be calling my cable company on February 15th to put my order in, and see what they tell me then.
  11. Randy Johnson is 25 hit batsmen away from the all time record.
  12. Sammy Sosa needs 403 strike outs for the all time "K" record, currently held by Reggie Jackson.
  13. Probably next to no chance we could trade: Bob Hill for Bill Hall That's too bad.
  14. Julio Franco is only a year away from needing a 2nd baseball card for the spill over of his career stats. From age 43 to 46, Julio most closely compared to Minnie Minoso. Gee, I wonder why?
  15. Craig Wilson is an Atlanta Brave. How about Jason Bay instead. But, to make it fair for the Pirates, we should give them the choice of 3 PTBNL's and include Les Walrond and Roberto Novoa as their other options.
  16. That probably depends on who is playing CF and whether they would go with a 5 or 6 man bench. I'm assuming a 5 man bench. If Soriano plays CF, I don't think they need Pagan. You can just shift Jones over to CF when Soriano needs a rest. In a pinch, Theriot can probably fill in out there.
  17. I didn't realize that you also had Theriot on the 25 man. You didn't see this?
  18. Of course, if Casey McGehee beats Hill out of the job in Spring Training, I won't complain.
  19. Theriot, DeRosa or Hill if Izturis can't play. Any lengthy stay on the DL for Izturis would promote Cedeno.
  20. If the final roster spot comes down to Tomas Perez, Ronny Cedeno or Bobby Hill, I'll take Hill every time. Cedeno should only get the call once it's determined Izturis doesn't belong in a major league starting line up. Otherwise, he's better suited to play everyday at AAA. Perez should have trouble making it on a AAA roster, let alone a major league one. Last year at Portland, Hill hit .282/.396/.395. Definitely not much in the power department, but I'll take a guy with the ability to get on base starting off an inning in the pitcher's spot with Soriano on deck. Soriano really changes the dynamics of the pinch hit roles at the bottom of the order, IMO. If you have guys on base and the pitcher's spot is coming up, you can stick Floyd, Murton, Ward or Barrett in there to bring in the runner. Teams aren't going to pitch around those guys to get to Soriano like they would have with Neifi or Pierre on deck. If the pitcher's spot is leading off an inning, which will probably happen a lot with Izturis in the line up, a guy like Theriot or Hill can try to set the table for Soriano. A bench of Floyd, Ward, Theriot, Hill and Blanco is a quality bench, IMO. Lifetime as a PH, Hill is: .268/.363/.381/.744 Still missing is the SLG, but to me he's an upgrade over Bynum, Pagan, Neifi, Izturis and the many other OBP-lacking bats that don't provide any SLG either. Hill hits LHP better than RHP, and he appears to still be switch hitting for the time being.

Agreed, Santana has his own category. Sheets (when healthy) can be amazing. Perhaps a better comparison is Roy Oswalt, no? I'd compare him to Peavy.
  22. I always use the same lame and boring excuse. The 35 hour drive is a bit much.
  23. Glad I didn't throw away my Bobby Hill jersey. What are the chances he gets his old number (17) back? Not one of my better sound investments.
