  1. The March 4 game had way too much cursing going on. WTF, *%$%@#, Bull**** and any other variations of curse words are not allowed and need to stop now. The personal attacks need to stop as well. Come on, people. These are spring training games. Tim created a great site for all of us to enjoy. How about we show him a little bit of respect and follow his message board guidelines. If you forgot what they are, I have conveniently placed a link to the message board guidelines in my signature. Thanks for your understanding that this is a family site.
  2. While the Cubs definitely feature a big bopper line up, the one weakness that remains is poor OBP. Without a decent OBP, there's going to be a lot of solo home runs. I think they definitely improved the OBP over the winter, but how much remains to be seen. If Lou's focus on OBP is really legit, then the Cubs potentially could crack the top 5 in offense with the mix of added players with better OBP's than the players they replaced, and a more patient approach in general.
  3. I think it's worth mentioning that the Padres farm system is one of the worst in baseball. The lack of good to decent position playing prospects might have a much bigger impact on the lack of run scoring, as well as won/loss records of their minor league teams.
  4. Bozo the Clown will always have his place in Chicago. Oh, wait......that's not Bozo.
  5. When I'm not posting here, I'm spending countless hours researching excellent responses that I can make in this thread.
  6. Interesting, btw, that Murton is hitting 2nd and Jones down in the line up against a righty. for Lou!
  7. Fixed.
  8. Todd Walker has to shave every 15 minutes to avoid scruff.
  9. no, unless there are several injuries out of camp. Several? I wouldn't say several. And most likely Pavano will get dealt. So far the Yanks hitters have said Hughes is amazing. Yeah, probably not "several". But, all indications are that Hughes will begin the season in AAA. With Wang, Pettitte, Pavano, Mussina and Igawa now, and potentially someone else in the mix before ST is over (Phily and LAD both have too many starters), Hughes is not in the plans right away. An injury could change that.
  10. It also looks like our 3rd pick in the 2007 Amateur draft will be a bust. :D
  11. Yeah, and Lee and Barrett will be fielding their positions with walkers.
  12. I didn't see A-Rod in there anywhere. This list is bogus.
  13. What are the options with Miller? Is he tradeable if we don't have room in the rotation and he has increased his production to be a viable starter for other teams? Or will the Cubs give him his release so he can pick and choose who he signs with? The Cubs did invest money in him last year and this year, so it would seem to me that they should get something out of him if he has value. I know Bruce has mentioned that releasing him is probably the easiest pill for the Cubs to swallow if there is a rotation logjam. But, I was curious if that would be the most likely scenario. A few teams could lose a starter to injury during the spring, which puts the Cubs in a pretty good bargaining position with the depth of #5 starters. It also sounds like AAA could have quite a logjam of pitchers this year as well.
  14. You'd go with NSBB member guidelines? :D Whoops.
  15. It's just another example of how Lou and Dusty are exact opposites. Dusty loves fish and Lou doesn't.
  16. Well, we know that Soriano has a bit of an ego, and I would be a bit concerned about him in CF this year and then be asked to move when a better option came along later. But, the better option (Pie) and Soriano seem to be getting along pretty well in ST, which could be the one guy who Soriano may not mind moving for. With Soriano getting probably a full year in CF this year, the Cubs could be looking at a very good defensive outfield starting in 2008.
  17. The news on my team has all been pretty good. I have a lot of potential sleepers on offense that are all doing well so far. I'm only aware of Matt Cain giving up any runs from my staff. Halladay, Santana, Bonderman and Wainwright all buzzed right through in their first starts. Bonderman has a new weapon in his arsenal, so things are looking good. Atlanta is raving about Scott Thorman.
  18. Yeah, I was very much opposed to Japanese players winning ROY at first, but I've come around. It's also a bone in MLB's cap for these players to win awards like ROY. It inspires others to follow in the footsteps of the bold one's who first tried it. It could eventually open the floodgates to more and more Japanese players crossing the pond.
  19. That would be pretty sweet. But, it's not likely.
  20. I forgot we had Kinkade. Maybe he'll win the 25th spot on the roster.
  21. Why prolong the inevitable? We have a tremendous hole at SS. Get it done, Jim.
  22. I used to think that Japanese players should not be eligible for ROY, but I've changed my stance on that. Japanese players must overcome so much to do well in the United States. They are facing pitchers/hitters they aren't familiar with (except those rare instances when they pitched or hit against them in Japan). Some can't communicate with their teammates due to the language barrier. Their surroundings are completely unfamiliar. They are the object of circus-like media attention, and they have to perform better than every rookie coming up through the minor leagues that year. Only 3 times since 1995 has a Japanese player won the award. How many have made the overseas trip since 1995? Matsuzaka is no lock to win the award.
  23. Shhhhh. The Yankees are innocent of driving up market prices.
