  1. I actually like that. I also like Neifi over Tomas Perez by a long shot.
  2. The writing is on the wall. A-Rod has been the scapegoat the last few years and the fans ride him everyday. At a certain point, a guy is going to say enough is enough. I think A-Rod wants to be happy in New York, but New York isn't allowing that to happen. Therefore, the rumors of coming to play for Lou where the Chicago fans will embrace him.
  3. If A-Rod wants to sign a deal with the Cubs, you find every possible way to make it happen. You worry about how to afford it later. That's the order. Get him, then worry. Trade Lilly, Jones and Eyre and you basically have A-Rod money. Those guys are all potentially replaceable from the farm next year. Add Marquis to the list as well if Prior comes back strong this year and Zambrano gets a deal. The Cubs can go cheaper at C and SS next year as well with Cedeno and ? behind the plate. Maybe A-Rod makes A-Ram expendable. Maybe A-Rod won't be able to play SS anymore. Teams would give up a small fortune in prospects for Aramis. There would be ways to fit A-Rod into this line up. Get it done and then worry about how to make it work later. Too much talent is one of the best problems you could ever have.
  4. Being limited by an injury just makes him cheaper to attain. He can still get enough action the rest of ST to determine whether he'd be a viable option as the 25th man on the Cubs roster. He has shown some pop in the past, but what he's settled into isn't really a whole lot more promising than most of the other options out there. I doubt if there are many utility middle infielders out there that would excite me all that much, actually. Too bad we can't clone Theriot. Of course, a year ago Theriot wasn't even considered an option. I don't know how his defense is, but I've always been semi-impressed with Hector Luna's bat, who I believe is now in the Indians organization. Of course, I like Jhonny Peralta a whole lot more. :D
  5. Hey, easy there pal.
  6. Now they just need to figure out how to get Dempster more than 2 at bats.
  7. I don't understand how people don't see what the problem is. Throwing games is what I would take issue with. Betting on your own team to win doesn't seem all that evil to me. But, there is no way to know whether he bet for or against them.
  8. He's been saying for years that he bet on the Reds to win. That's not anything new. And if that's all he did, I don't see what the problem would be with betting on your own team.
  9. I have that happen on occasion when I have more than one NSBB window open at a time.
  10. I cannot see Jim Hendry making any effort to bring back Todd Walker. Walker also hits wrong handed for the extra infielder the Cubs are looking for. Walker probably isn't getting cut anyway. There will be some spring releases or trades to fill that spot.
  11. I doubt they cut him in the spring out of fear of losing a grievance. I thought the whole idea behind cutting Walker, if they do, is to do it before the end of ST. That way the team would only owe him around $650k. He will be an expensive bench player. If San Diego is going to risk a grievance and cut him, they actually have to do it by the end of tomorrow-we'll know soon if he's on the market again. Their GM said if he was one of the best 25 players they'd keep him-unfortunately, he's made that decision a lot harder (if he is one of their 25 best) by putting up a .227/.261/.273 line so far in ST. Walker won't be going anywhere unless someone will trade for him and take his salary with him. The Padres aren't in bad shape financially, even if they like to cry about it. Kouzmanoff is no guarantee to hit righties at 3b. Giles hasn't had much work so far this spring at 2b. They pretty much need Walker right now. They aren't in a pinch financially after shedding Nevin, Klesko and Park not all that long ago. I'd guess they are right around 50-55m, which is 10m less than they were spending when they were in the old ball park.
  12. Yeah, I could see that, too. Though Tulowitzki would be better. I think the Rockies will look to move Barmes or Carroll once Tulo is confirmed for the starting SS gig.
  13. I have no idea what MOT stands for. But, then again, I have no idea what Mott or Hoople stand for, either.
  14. Gotta love Rotoworld's sense of humor: Neifi Perez left Tuesday's game in the third inning, saying he felt congested and ill. Tigers fans complained of the same symptoms after he was acquired last year. Perez is day-to-day.
  15. Wow! Who would have ever guessed that the Tribune would keep handing out blank checks for their baseball team? Make it happen!
  16. I like this for several different reasons. #1. Lou doesn't sound like he wants Tomas Perez to be that last middle infielder if they are scouting other teams. #2. Lou has seen Jacques splits against lefties and he would rather have a light hitting middle infielder play in his spot against lefties. #3. He likes Theriot and is looking for more ways to get him playing time. #4. Cedeno will be in Iowa where he can play everyday and work on his plate discipline and defense. Lou has changed my whole perception of him and the season hasn't even started yet. When his signing was announced, I was "meh" about it. Now I'm as excited as I've been in a long while about the direction this team is moving. I'm curious what type of middle infielder they will be in search of. Maybe someone like Chris Woodward?
  17. And yet, I'd rather be trapped in an El-car with Woo Woo than have to listen to Plesac call another game. You know. If there is one thing about Woo-woo. . . . What I learned when pitching is that hitters, when being selective at the plate. Will take that first ball. And other teams see that. And that's really what Carlos Zambrano needs to do here. Because you really need him down the stretch, in august and september. When pitchers are aggresive with their strikes, that gives them the opportunitity to be ahead of the count, and give themselves a chance to set up their "out" pitch. One thing I learned being a pitcher at the Major leagues, is Carlos Zambrano has been able to walk guys, but be so good, that he can still get out of the inning unscathed. . . . Speaking of innings. . . what inning is it? Hey drunk person. Step away from the keyboard! :D
  18. Are you makin' up words again? [-(
  19. My one Peter, er....I mean Pedro, :D is better than your two Johnsons. You lose.
  20. Sorry to have hijacked the thread with thoughts on Alex Cora. It was wishful thinking on my part that Izturis had some involvement with the lengthy at bat that I still have faint memories of. I'm looking for reasons to like the guy, so I am at least trying. :D
  21. I believe you are actually talking about Alex Cora, who hit a home run on pitch number 18 against the Cubs. Wow, I really screwed that one up, eh? :D What year was that? It sounds strikingly familiar and is probably the at bat I was referring to. Thought for sure it was Izturis.
  22. Someone will have a better recollection than me, but a few years back (maybe 3), Izturis was facing a Cubs pitcher and took 10+ pitches and then finally jacked one out of the park. I wanna say it was closer to 14-15 pitches rather than 10. Endless at bat where Izturis continued fouling off pitches. Edit: I think this at bat was actually against the Padres. I went through the game logs for 03-06 and didn't find any HR's by Izturis against the Cubs.
  23. He's still tearing it up. His OBP is .692 and his AVG is .538 in 26 at bats. Maybe Richie Sexson should take hitting lessons from Josh. Sexson is 0-19 or something of that nature.
  24. Are you serious? I missed that news. Well, it's more wishful thinking than anything. There is supposed to be a meeting sometime in March, and March 12th sticks in my memory for some reason. The meeting is to address the fact the veteran's committee has fallen down on the job. Whether that means change or not has yet to be determined.
