Myth. Jones is getting paid by the Cubs whether he plays for the Cubs or someone else. Hendry didn't like the return for the amount of money the Cubs had to pick up on the remainder of Jones contract.

We'll just pretend that's what they're paying Theriot to actually be somewhat useful at SS. I wouldn't have had a problem with paying 6/3 of Izturis' remaining contract. Sometimes it's just better to pay someone to play for someone else than to continue playing him on your own team. I don't get it... why would Selig allow this and not the Jacque Jones deal? I don't believe Selig is the one who nixed the Jones deal. I believe it was Hendry.

Considering all the flak that was stirred up on his first call up, he's probably better off not making more waves before official announcements are made.

Ward probably will start against RHP. And DeRosa might play there against LHP. Fox just gives them a bit more depth on the bench while Lee is out. I'm not overly concerned about Fox's options. It's yet to be seen if he can perform in the OF like a quality major league outfielder. If he can't then as a 1b, his value drops significantly. He's pretty much done as a C.

Nah. With Izturis likely on his way out, the Cubs would be short middle infielders if they sent Fontenot down. I suppose they could call up Cedeno, however, which they already should have done.

As much as I like Murton, if he's just sitting on the bench in favor of Cliff Floyd, why bring him up for just 5 games? It makes sense to call on Fox to act as the back up/platoon/ph at 1b with Ward. I like the move. Floyd's next injury will likely be Murton's calling card.

Except they have 12, so who is the other unused arm? I do agree that he's a complete waste of roster spot if he can't even be used in blowouts. He's gone 3 times in July after just 7 appearances in June. I really wonder what sort of plan they have for him. Gallagher. He pitched for the first time in 10 days yesterday.

August 7th, 2003, Zambrano had a 9-0 lead after 5. Ended up throwing 120 pitches, most of those in the 6th inning.

I was very happy to see this. I was at a game with Tim a few years back in San Diego and Dusty left Zambrano in there with a 52 run lead for like 8 innings and over 120 pitches. I'll see if I can dig up the box score.

Yeah, and I completely forgot Gallagher was still with the team. Lou is pretty good at hiding guys on the bench.

Scott Rolen flew back to St Louis for a shoulder injury. I moved BJ Upton to 3rd and moved Jose Guillen into the line up from the bench.

What? I haven't heard, but I'll guess that Ervin got pulled from the rotation. I'm fine with that. He sucks. And I thought he was going to put it all together this year. I'm down to 4 pitchers. Dammit.

Maybe because the other people (some of whom may have inside information) who post here aren't in jeopardy of losing their jobs if caught posting on message boards. I'm sure Bruce Miles wouldn't post here if his employer told him not to. I'm sure many people working under Cubs brass have been instructed not to discuss what might be considered inside information on message boards. That would include janitors, secretary's, interns, etc.... For all we know, this person has been cleaning the Cubs GM's office for the last 20 years. Maybe it is Paul Sullivan's personal secretary if he even has one. Who cares, really? She's been very harmless, and I haven't been bothered one bit by her request to stay anonymous.

they should trade some young prospects like braun, hardy and hart for some good vets I should have expressed that I'd rather not finish in last place for a decade to get to the position of having all of those prospects making it to the bigs at the same time. :P
