  1. Is McLouth a top prospect? I wouldn't call him one, which is why I didn't list him. But, I'd bet Hendry likes McLouth more than he likes Pie. And it would only be a matter of time before McLouth was grabbing up most of the at bats in CF.
  2. I find it really odd how every team seems to covet the other team's top prospects. I don't know that I've ever seen so many top prospects/young talent get rumored into deals in one offseason. LaRoche, Kemp, Kershaw, Ellsbury, Hughes, Lester, Dukes, Delmon Young, Garza, Pie, Murton, Bruce, Bailey, Andrew Miller, Adam Miller, Chase Headley, Kendrick, Adenhart, Rasmus, Hamilton, Milledge, etc.....
  3. Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller would probably have to be involved with a trade rumor like that. Whoa.
  4. Wow. I just looked up McLouth's stats for 2007. Not too shabby.
  5. I'd like to keep Hill, also. But, I'd deal him for Haren. Realistically, the Cubs probably wouldn't go after Haren. But, if they did get Fukudome and Hamilton, Pie and/or Murton would likely be moved for pitching.
  6. There is plenty of room in the outfield for both Hamilton and Fukudome. And there is still potential for room in the budget for a Haren/Pie and Hill swap. Temper those expectations. Yeah, I know. Hendry is the GM. Expect the worst. But, how much would you like to see Hamilton, Fukudome and Haren. I'd pee my pants with glee. I wouldn't care who played SS.

  8. I wonder what Cincinnati would want to include Keppinger?
  9. Leave it to Hendry to produce such a huge haul........ Oh, wait... ](*,)
  10. Why is this deal not already done? Duh!!
  11. If Boston wins the Santana sweepstakes, that's still a possibility. Boston will likely want to move salary somewhere.
  12. I believe that to be the case, though. Colorado plays as a hitter's park more for the spacious outfields, rather than HR's. At least since Colorado adopted the storing of baseballs in a humidor.
  13. The HR's make sense. Playing a ton of games in SD, LA, SF and spacious Colorado knocks a lot of guys HR power down quite a bit.
  14. Murton is a below avg hitter for his position and has a below avg glove. I understand he's cheap but high payroll teams should attempt to do better. I'm not sure I understand the "selling at his lowest value" argument. IMO at age 26 a .296/.365/.455 line is pretty close to his ceiling. Murton is a useful player but he's not exactly untouchable. He's not below average for his position. His numbers would easily put him in the upper half. He's at his lowest point because the Cubs have screwed around with using him as a backup to guys like Jacque Jones and Cliff Floyd, and then are spending this offseason doing whatever possible to put somebody other than Matt Murton in right field. He's letting everybody in the world know he's got no use for Matt Murton, so, if anybody wants him, they can get him easily, most likely for less than steller value in return. age 24 - AB 140 - OPS+ 132 age 25 - AB 455 - OPS+ 104 age 26 - AB 235 - OPS+ 100 Which seems like the biggest fluke here? Murton has had his opportunities, I'm not completely buying the Cubs have screwed him argument. The drop off in numbers is what you get when you turn a developing prospect into a part time player.
  15. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Dusty Baker appears to be settling in with his new position.
  16. Agreed. Their offer probably isn't even half what the Cubs are offering. Meanwhile, Michael Barrett is about to go down the same exact road that Todd Walker went down with San Diego last year. The Padres offered Barrett arbitration. Only an idiot would decline that deal, as Barrett stands to make 5m to be Josh Bard's back up. But, apparently a team can offer arbitration, lose the arbitration case, and then cut the player when you don't like what you will be required to pay. That just doesn't seem right to me, but that's what happened to Walker last year and I'm predicting will happen to Barrett.
  17. This has become funny sad. A team should never get to the point that they think that they have gotten so good that they can eliminate most of the player talent pool and concentrate on a small percentage of players that meet the criteria of what they believe will make them a better team. What Hendry is doing with this "I want guys who can catch the ball" and "I need a speedy lefty power hitter" is basically ignoring the ideal of "get the best player available" mentality. Murton has next to no value on the market. The Cubs did that to him. And no matter what crap you get in return for him, there is NO WAY Murton playing for someone else will be better for the Cubs than Murton playing for the Cubs. And since that is the case, FORGET ABOUT TRADING MURTON! Now, if he's involved in a package to get a premier player, that's a different story. But, Murton on the trade market just to trade him or because he doesn't hit left handed is beyond stupid. Someone really needs to kick Hendry extremely hard in the posterior. Does he not have advanced scouts to pound common sense into him? Honestly, I really don't have a clue why I even care anymore.
  18. Exactly. Someone please give the VORP difference between Tejada and Theriot and Fukudome and Murton.
  19. Doubt if anything official happens with this deal anytime soon. You would have to assume that this deal would hinge upon whether they can get a long term deal worked out with Santana. No way the Yankees are giving up Hughes, Kennedy and Cabrera for a 1 year rental.
  20. Yeah. I compare that statement to Lou choosing Lee at 1st over Daryle Ward. But, I hope he spent tons of time evaluating who should start at C, because it's quite obvious there aren't any other pressing needs this offseason.
  21. If there is any remote chance of moving Marquis, I'd do it. I'd also gamble on both Colon and Clement if their price tags are reasonable.
  22. Instead of doing Prior a favor, why not look at teams that could actually help us now? Prior and DeRosa (since Colorado lost out on Matsui) and another prospect to Colorado for Seth Smith and Ian Stewart. Smith isn't cracking that outfield anytime soon, and he isn't getting any younger. Stewart has been working at 2b this fall since he's blocked by Atkins at 3b. Both hit left handed.
  23. I seriously doubt that Crawford is still on the market. The Rays traded Delmon Young. Elijah Dukes is still causing problems, Baldelli spends more time on the DL and they seem to like Gomes at DH. With Young already gone, trading Crawford weakens what used to be a strength for them, IMO.
  24. Oh cool. Hendry doing another player a favor. I fully expect to see a Mark Prior for Oscar Robles trade, simply because the awful Oscar Robles is a lefty hitting 2b.
