  1. I'm really not in favor of trading Murton if they don't have to. He makes for an awesome #4 outfielder. But..... Murton vs. RHP in 2007: .257 .331 .396 Teahen vs RHP in 2007: .297 .363 .437 And this was in an off year for Teahen. There are more RHP in the league than LHP. Between the two of them, they would be one heck of a complete LFer. And I say LFer because I'm convinced the best move the Cubs could make this offseason that doesn't involve transactions would be to move Soriano to RF where he belongs. Most of the guys the Cubs have been sending out to RF last year and looking at this offseason are basically LFers. Just move Soriano for the last time and be done with it. Seeing Daryle Ward, Cliff Floyd, Jacque Jones (weak arm) and Matt Murton trying to play RF has been amusing, but there comes a point where it's not funny anymore.
  2. Well, considering you also showed your age with this last response, I suppose that is enough about you. Of course, I'm probably older and have likely been to more Rush shows than you. :D
  3. You are forgetting that Santana has an NTC and he'll need to be signed to an extension, which will likely be in the neighborhood of 6/150m. The Cubs do not have that kind of money at their disposal. That's why I did say we wouldn't get Fukodome, but I agree even though it's not my money. It's more likely that almost any team is going to wait and sign Santana in the offseason than give too much in terms of prospects now and give him the major money. It sounds like a deal is just about done for Santana, with 4 or 5 players going to Minnesota. Boston can afford to offer up what Santana is looking for.
  4. Bruce loves the limelight. Or is it that he loves the night life and that he likes to boogie? I keep forgetting.
  5. Not to steal any thunder from Bruce, but if the Cubs and Prior could settle on something, I'm guessing it would be done already. That Prior's name is circulating all over Nashville tells me Prior's as good as gone.
  6. Oh, I thought you were going to say the Cubs owed the Reds a favor for hiring Dusty. 8-) Actually, I had a nice little chat with Dusty today. The Cubs claim they haven't talked to the Reds about Hamilton. I do know that Lou likes him and got excited when he heard he might be available. Well, get busy planting those rumors then. :D
  7. Bruce, Feel free to let Jim know that BigbadB gives the green light to trade Marshall for Josh Hamilton. And since Fukudome will cost essentially the same thing as Tejada, that Tejada really is affordable. And if Tejada doesn't look appealing enough at SS, we could always help the Dodgers free up the salary they will need to give out some big contracts by taking Rafael Furcal off their hands. If he needs help with these trades, I'm always available. :D Please also remind Jim that Cincinnati owes us a returned favor for allowing them to draft Josh Hamilton in the first place, so no asking for more than Marshall.

  9. But if the Cubs were to swing a deal that landed Josh Hamilton, they could afford Tejada. If they can afford Fukudome, they can afford Tejada.
  10. From Rotoworld: The Padres are expected to make attempts to sign Glendon Rusch and Shawn Estes after the Rule 5 draft. Estes would be re-signing with the Padres as he finishes up his rehab from Tommy John surgery. Rusch missed last season after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his lungs. Ah, the good old days.
  11. KC is a bit difficult to figure out. They won't spend the money to keep Carlos Beltran, but they will throw ridiculous amounts of money at Meche and Guillen.
  12. To be a bit fair, Teahen played against tougher pitching in the AL, especially considering how utterly putrid the pitching was in the NL Central was this year. Also, it was kind of an outlier year for Comerica this year, but since it's inception it's always been one of the ten toughest parks for hitters. Comerica is Detroit. I don't like the comparison because Murton's numbers are probably a bit inflated due to situational hitting (platoon) rather than playing everyday. They are essentially the same type of hitter, with Teahen probably possessing more power.
  13. Wow. Why are the Brewers even bothering with this? They could probably make that same offer to the Rangers and get Blalock, who is likely to be much better.
  14. The Pirates sure seemed enamored with Nyjer Morgan. And he fits that "prototypical lead off hitter" mentality GM's all over MLB seem to love.
  15. A couple of closest comparisons are Bobby Bonilla and Alexis Rios. But, I'd probably compare him a little more closely to Hank Blalock.
  16. This entire off-season has been about that, so far. It makes absolutely no friggen' sense what-so-ever. I think Hendry is trying to purge the people he wants off the team. He's succeeded in getting rid of Ohman and Jones. I also think that he's trying to get rid of Murton, Demp and Marquis and I don't have a problem with that as long as he acquires or signs people better than what he's purging. You can probably include Prior on his list of people he's trying to get rid of.
  17. You can't count Cleveland out. They could end up with Jason Bay. Oooh. Bay is on the market? What could he be had for? Hendry isn't interested in Bay. He doesn't hit wrong handed.
  18. You can't count Cleveland out. They could end up with Jason Bay.
  19. Can we at least wait until this deal is complete before we crown him as our savior?
  20. Like Greg Maddux, like Jacque Jones, like the first rumors of Mark Prior being traded for career minor leaguers.
  21. That's my guess too. The Cubs are most likely making a phoney show of faith in Dempster's ability to start in the hope that it will inflate his trade value enough to make him movable without having to eat any salary. Purely from a business standpoint it's not a bad idea, though it's kinda sleazy to mislead Dempster with false promises. As sleazy as it may sound, I'd prefer Cubs management take a more sleazy route than just give players away.
  22. Hah. Now we know what trumps a speedy LH power bat. #-o
  23. I disagree. Willis has a perceived value that would likely net them some young talent. I think they could get more by dealing them separately. That perceived value is why he is going to make a ton of cash in arbitration. Cash Florida probably has very little interest in paying. And some team will be willing to pay that ton of cash in arbitration AND give up talent to get him.
