I really don't understand why that's funny. If you are in rebuild mode, the guys you sell your talent for are guys who can eventually be an impact player at the major league level. As it stands, the Orioles would essentially be trading one of their better players for 3 huge question marks. Matt Murton would be a nice platoon player with Luke Scott, but that's probably all he'll be since Markakis occupies the other corner outfield spot. And since Murton is RH, Scott will likely get more at bats. Gallagher probably slots into their rotation, but this is a guy who was going to be battling with several pitchers in the Cubs organization for a rotation spot. Eric Patterson? He "could" open up in CF, but he's got how much experience playing CF? Not much. Add that in with really no reliable info on how his minor league numbers will translate to the major league level, and I can definitely see why Orioles fans would balk on such a return.
