You're probably right, but considering how good the Cubs defense could be this year with potential gold glovers in Pie, Fukudome, Ramirez and Lee, I think the hit the Cubs take defensively at SS between Theriot and DeRosa would be worth it offensively. Theriot isn't exactly a stellar defender. His range is average and his arm is well below average. Theriot probaby has more range and a better glove, but DeRosa has a better arm. Basically, the trade off I see is Theriot getting to balls that DeRosa wouldn't get to, but DeRosa would throw guys out that Theriot wouldn't be able to throw out, including relay throws from the outfield. Of course, the only reason to even consider DeRosa at SS is if they got a better 2b than DeRosa.
