  9. Am I the only one not feelin' the love this year? It has nothing to do with rosters or chances in the division or management philosophy or any of that stuff. I just don't seem to care as much this year. I haven't paid much attention to spring training. I'm not giddy with anticipation for the start of the season. I'm not looking forward hopefully to sunsplashed games a Wrigley or cross-town rivalries or fan-cams or celebrity sing-alongs or hot dogs or Old Style or the pop of a pitched ball hitting the catchers mitt or the cheer accompanying a ball hit to Waveland or a Santo conniption or any of it. I'm not dreading any of it either. Not the heartbraking losses nor the rained out games nor the unfulfilled promise of young talent and well-paid vets nor the torn hamstrings nor the sore elbows nor the 0-6 homestands nor the overpriced concessions. I feel almost nothing. Or more accurately I feel too much of the last few years to allow myself to feel any of that other stuff. Am I the only one?
  10. Over whom will the ladies swoon this year? I cannot possibly guess. That is one ugly bunch of ball players.
  11. Without music it's really a poem, right?
  12. Find me an owner or potential owner who doesn't have the same thing tattooed on their forehead.
  13. You can't add these guys to whoever we trade for Peavy. If you're going to do that you would have to say Stevens, Hart, Marshall, Olsen, Derosa, Marquis, and Wood for Peavy, Viscaino, Gregg, the minor league pitcher we got from the O's, and the other two pitchers we got from Cleveland Did some of those folks clear salary for Milton Bradley too or not?
  14. Are you saying those two are similar? Isn't there a significant difference in evaluating those lines in relation to the strikeouts? All else being equal (which is the case here at least in the stats listed) I thought making contact was better than not. I'm saying both are really awful, and banishing the younger, great fielding one while letting the older, crummy fielding one get the extended look is a poor decision. But wasn't the fact that Edmonds was making contact a reason to give him the benefit of the doubt that he would more likely come out of his funk than Pie?

  16. I'm jumping out my window if the Cubs sign Braden Looper. You have to get out of your mom's basement before that carries any weight.
  17. Any word, thoughts, feelings about the current injury situation coming out of last night's win?
  18. How much of an influence over Aramis's throws does Lee's size and relative agility make? I seem to recall some saying that A-Ram is a better fielder partly because he has Lee as his target. Is this the conventional wisdom and is it accurate?
  19. The good residents of Springfield are ready to storm Cooperstown. http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/3889/800pxsimpsonsangrymobfz7.png
  20. Someone may have pointed this out already but part of the worry about the age of a pitcher (particularly a starting pitcher) has to do with wear and tear on the arm right? Does the fact that Ryan averaged about 78 IP over the previous 3 years ('04-'06 since he was a closer I think) lower his arm age?
  21. Yeah, I went to High School with him too. Note to self: never pop into Eric316wttn's head. Seems like a deathtrap.
  22. Did the journalist ask Soriano what he meant?
