    I didn't think this needed its own thread, but the Trib has a video clip up on the sports site (scroll down a bit on the front page, it's the Dan Roan clip) of Daryle Ward already out in Mesa acclimating to the elevation and getting some work in. It's almost here, folks...

    Last one was July 4, 2004 at Wrigley. Derrek Lee homered early and that was it for the entire game, until LaTroy gave up the same to Carlos Lee in the 9th (typical 2004 game, am I right?). The Cubs won when Damaso Marte walked Walker with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th.

    Because they claim annually that Javier Valentin is one of their best bats off the bench, so they keep a third catcher on the roster to enable the manager to PH with Valentin while still keeping a catcher on the bench.

    I would imagine (read: hope greatly) that such will indeed be the case. If his introductory press conference was any indicator, the guy's going to have a decent-sized throng of media, American and Japanese, following him as he prepares for the season.

    Meh. Look at it this way; it's one of those annual signs that baseball's on its way back. All's we need now is some warm weather, some sunshine and Cardinals fans declaring "PUJOLS FOR MVP CUBS SUCK !"

    That's simply their method of tagging individual articles, stemming from the fact that they're a fantasy site at the core. For example, their bit on La Russa re-signing in St. Louis was tagged as an Albert Pujols story.

    I used the kanji characters partially because I saw the "small bear" characters used on this. I assumed, very possibly erroneously, that whomever designed the shirt had enough command of the language to know factually that it was the more common/accepted way to write "Cubs" in Japanese. I also used the kanji because my command of the language is limited to a few common words and what my preferred online kanji dictionary can tell me; otherwise I can't speak, write or translate the language to save my life. :-#

    One has to imagine that with all the consternation over the center field position since Corey petered out, if the Cubs at all felt Murton was a viable defensive option in center field they would have tried it by now beyond one emergency inning.
