I get that injuries happen and stuff, but with everything that's gone on, I'm not sure how we're expected to take any of this seriously. Scott Rolen and his .680 OPS will be starting at third base for the NL. Jon Lester was named as an AL All-Star to replace a Sunday pitcher and was then himself replaced because he's on the DL right now. The NL starting third baseman and the reserve third baseman both get hurt and the one NL third baseman actually deserving of a spot doesn't go because he was contacted too late. I realize there are procedures that they have to follow in naming replacements due to the player balloting and fan balloting and all that, but at what point does MLB step back and realize the clusterscrew they're heading towards, if they haven't already arrived at it in full?
