  1. One of the first baseball games I ever attended featured an extra innings game winning HR by Julio to give Hough & the Rangers the W. I still like Julio & Sierra a lot.

  3. Doesn't sound like anything new. Shawn Bradley had loose justification to be on the German Nat'l Team. Same for Thomas Dooley & US Soccer. Talented countries have overflow.
  4. Cubs, Redskins, Mavs, Horns, Juve.
  5. I'll give Sabo a second vote. I really wanted Gracie to get the ROY over him. Current players I'm not that fond of include Clemens (despite being a Horns grad), Biggio & Jeff Kent.
  6. It's like calling Twain, Clement if Twain chose to also go by Vaughn, Doom, Ghedra, Mad Villain, etc. It's more universal to me.
  7. From espn: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2005/news/story?id=2203527 I like the start of Wall's lyrics: "What you know about Brad Ausmus and what you know about Jason Lane?" Can't say Wall's on my radar, but I do like Dumile, De La & many others of the genre. My rhetorical answer to 'What you know about Brad Ausmus' would have to be, I know that I once went to a game at Minute Maid deep into the season & Ausmus wasn't hitting .200 so for his jumbo-tron screen, they left current BA off. All other players had this listed. Made for a great laugh for me. Why don't they want the fans to know Ausmus' BA. I'm guessing b/c it's sub-Mendoza. Astros hip hop tribute. That's rich.
  8. pulling for Cards as well. I went to the Z over Pettitte, last Friday of season game. When the Cubs tied it against Lidge, the seats were emptying a lot through my section. Plenty to play for that day & not all that much interest in sticking it out in a pretty mild rough spot. Lot of pretty obnoxious fans upon the early Houston hr's too. I've prev caught a LA-Hou there & finished the 6th-9th sitting by Lima's wife & kid (just before Lima had the herpes/mistress accusations flying I believe) when sections vacated on a 6th inning Dodgers lead. Can't feel the 'earned it' for that beyond maybe players v many disinterested fans. Anyway, I'm going with Grudz.
  9. Good 'ol Oxxie... Just hanging out on the fence here about then/now, but on the Pittsburgh coke bit, I have to agree that athletes & recreational drug use seems to be a quite diff issue in terms of tainting a game (than steroids). I don't think Ricky Williams taints football by having been identified as a recreational smoker. I distinguish b/w the types in assigning levels of taint. ...did that have anything to do with Tim Raines getting the nickname 'Rock' though?
  10. nicely done & thanks for the link.
  11. Anyone know where the Nomar: I never said it would be easy; I only said it would be worth it" pic could be found? I seem to recall that was an original by somewhere here. Thanks in advance.
  12. Hey Perry, I hear Guzman's had a few problems attaining the hurler skill of staying out of Andrew's office as well.[/b]
  13. might be appreciated if the link were edited to not have print=true on the end.
  14. Are you a wizard? I'd wanted to ask that from the first post in the thread & kept thinking better of it, but I waited it out & wizard question won. Welcome to northside. Edit to note that I also spot ninja's better than avg.
  15. Fairly certain they misspoke, but ESPN radio read off Mitre as today's starter ~an hr ago.
  16. or perhaps they were traded for the minor leaguers others have mentioned....disregard.
  17. believe both were just not resigned (could well be wrong there). Mueller left the offseason we got Dusty I think, & I was hopeful that Mueller would fit the bill as a 'Dusty guy' & be kept around, but instead we were Ramon Martinez'd.
  18. I caught the weekend portion of the LA/SF series at Chavez. Izturis & Kent both played Saturday, giving the Dodgers a somewhat ML-looking lineup - a rare thing for either side in that series.
  19. The Mavs have made WCF under Cuban. 4-2 Spurs.
  20. As well, I believe there is a decent bond/good relationship b/w Burnett & the former Fish (now Jays) pitching coach.
  21. I don't see Chi-Sox (or Stros - edit: nm Stros have not been mentioned with AJ, just in same thread) getting a shot at AJ if Toronto is willing to move Chacin in hopes that they'd be in strong position for resigning him. Chacin's both young & cheap and has enjoyed a strong first half of his rookie season. Roy & AJ would be a great duo for them. Their payroll is thought to be upward-bound & they'd still have plenty of young & cheap players to allow for a solid allocation Burnett's way.
  22. I've read that he'd prefer a Cubs hat if he makes the Hall. Is he still a Marlin FO employee?
