  1. While Veteran Boy is putting his stamp on the Reds, Hendry should call and see what the Reds would need to trade Jay Bruce.
  2. Look at that horrible ISOD! Typical Cub!
  3. Other points of interest: Jacque is due one-third of his $4 signing bonus next January. Barring a catastrophe, the Cubs will owe Trachsel a $0.1 buyout. Zambrano's new deal calls for a $5 signing bonus. It's unclear from which budget(s) these monies are paid.
  4. Some specified number of days following the end of the World Series. I don't recall the specific number of days, but I don't think it's much longer than a week. I believe it's 10 days.
  5. I doubt you could get Shawn Kemp for Jacque.
  6. Maybe Dusty will tell Dunn that he wants him to hack away and Dunn will hit Dusty in the head with a bat. Dunn will get locked up for attempted murder so he can't hurt us any longer. Of course, the blow will have no effect on Dusty due to his rocklike skull and he can continue to manage the Reds into the ground. Win-win.
  7. That's good. Let's hope they're interested in Fukudome, also.
  8. Would you take Jack Wilson off their hands, if it helped get Bay?
  9. Also, you're probably not getting Hermida from the Marlins at all, but whatever slim chance there might be drops to zero without Pie included.
  10. There's an argument to be made that Pagan is as good, if not better, a backup plan to Pie than Jones, assuming Angel still has a functioning digestive system.
  11. Well, don't forget that Hank doesn't really play all that much.
  12. It's easy to find guys you could get for that pair, but it's tough to level out such deals. You probably could get Dontrelle for Pie & Marshall, but the Cubs would need more. You probably could get Renteria for Pie & Marshall, but the Cubs would need more. You probably could get Burrell for Pie & Marshall, but the Cubs would need more. You probably could get your choice of Kearns or Church for Pie & Marshall, but the Cubs would need more. Whether you'd want any of those players is a separate discussion.

    Fontenot

Taken off the 40-man roster this winter.
  14. Cuban - Schuerholz!
  15. Details to follow.
  16. Trade for Furcal. Sign Fukudome. Install Pie in CF and Soto behind the plate. Soriano-Furcal-Lee-Ramirez-Fukudome-DeRosa-Soto-Pie Huge defensive improvement at three key up-the-middle positions and likely a better offense, too.
  17. This is a good position. Don't eat salary to move Jacque, but, if someone will take him and his salary for nothing - giddyup. $5 salary, plus $1.33333333333333333333333333333333333333 signing bonus.

No, they're going to pick up their option on Trachsel instead.
  19. According to Cot's, Ward has the right to void his option and become a free agent. "I'm sorry, Daryle. I know you want to have 2009 guaranteed for you, but I've decided to exercise Trachsel's option instead." - Baseball's worst GM
  20. The Cubs are not going to be able to trade for Santana without Rich Hill being part of any deal.
  21. I'd kind of like to see that, regardless.
  22. This is related to the fact that the awful Jim Hendry and most of his predecessors almost always assembled offenses that would be marginally OK as long as everybody in the lineup was contributing. If any one spot was a zero, the offense would collapse. That resulted in the manager never having the "luxury" of running a struggling rookie out there for three months straight.
  23. It would take Felix Pie and some pitching, or - if you were in the mood to gamble - Rich Hill.
