  1. It is? my fault, 7:30am now SmarterChild: The time in Tokyo, Japan is Wednesday, December 12th, 2007 6:34:25 am. so they're 15 hours ahead of central time, not 16? Refresh this: http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oGklPl_F5HkBIBBUFXNyoA?p=current+time+japan&fr=yfp-t-501&ei=UTF-8
  2. Uh, yeah - I think the Yankees would consider that - for about two seconds before they accepted it. Then, Brian Cashman would, in the words of Jimmy Buffett, "commence to do the bear dance".
  3. Just because Theriot doesn't swing and miss a whole lot doesn't mean he's disciplined. He just makes a lot of weak contact. Ryan Theriot draws a fair number of walks, considering he has essentially zero power and pitchers aren't afraid of him in the least.
  4. if derosa's capable of playing ss, he damn well better be playing everyday. He did play there for a game last year. Does anyone remember which game that was? I can't say I remember it. Wasn't that the game when Lou yanked Fontenot off of SS after a couple of errors early in the ballgame? He swapped MF and MD mid-inning.
  5. From Bruce-o-Rama's column: If the Cubs can sign Fukudome and trade for Roberts, they can use the versatile Mark DeRosa in a "super" utility role, playing him at all four infield spots and at the outfield corners when one of the regulars is injured or needs a rest.
  6. Hey and maybe after school we could go to Arnold's and get a burger and a shake! What do ya say? The term you wanted to use there was "a malted".
  7. I can assure you that Towers would be willing to wait another year for Prior. If you believe the recent reports, Prior will be nontendered tomorrow and Towers will be able to pick him up without giving up any of his talent. If Prior refuses to add a year or option then he's going to have to go... ESPN's Jerry Crasnick believes that the Cubs will tender Prior a contract.
  8. A team with the resources of the Chicago Cubs should never have to think in terms of "windows". The Cubs should be a 90+ win team virtually every season.
  9. Peavy's recent deal is bigger. They supposedly offered Kevin Brown a bigger deal which he declined to go to Los Angeles. Giles' current deal may be a touch smaller than they're offering Kosuke.
  10. Quotes from the man himself: "I won't be playing for a Japanese club next season, I'll play in the majors," Fukudome said. "I appreciate the fans who supported me for nine years. I hope that the fans continue to root for me when they see me playing in the United States." http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3149919
  11. "Dice-K" isn't a nickname. That's how you pronounce Daisuke. Kosuke is pronounced "KOHS-kay". Or, if you prefer, "KOH-skay".
  12. Can I get a couple hundred bucks on the "under" on these numbers?
  13. Not a batting order, dude. I don't imagine Theriot will hit fifth...
  14. LF Soriano CF Pie RF Kosuke 3B Ramirez SS Theriot 2B Roberts 1B Lee C Soto might be able to push across 800 runs.
  15. Well, Kosuke's asleep now. I imagine he's having a dream in which he approaches a cute little baby bear and winds up getting mauled by its mother. He's later found, barely alive, and nursed back to health by a kindly old Mexican priest.
  16. From an ESPN chat: Bawb (Fairview, UT): Who is the biggest name that we will see non-tendered this year? Jerry Crasnick: Bawb, I'm not sure if all these guys will be non-tendered, but some of the names I'm hearing are Morgan Ensberg, Kevin Mench, Craig Monroe, Miguel Olivo, Ben Broussard and Horacio Ramirez. Several other guys -- like Xavier Nady and Mark Prior -- have been mentioned in speculation. But they're going to be offered contracts.
  17. Are Kosuke and Ichiro friends? If so, I wonder if Ichiro shared his feelings on Wrigley Field.
  18. i sure hope they aren't proposing a contract similar to soriano's. That's what I was thinking too but it's a little clarified later in the article: Nothing we didn't already know, though he wants 3 years so i'm not sure if he'll like five or not. The writer makes it seem like we'll either try to win him over with 5 years at a possible lower salary than 13 mill or go for the norm (3 years) at 13+ mill. Kosuke supposedly wanted only a three year deal with a no-arbitration clause so he could be a free agent again in three years to have a chance to really hit paydirt. A while back, someone (I think it was jersey) suggested that, since it now appears that he's going to hit paydirt right off the bat, he may be interested in a deal longer than three years. We'll see.
  19. That is altogether irrelevant. So we're going to give him a 1 year deal to sit on the bench until June-July? If I'm keeping Prior on this team I want complete leverage. I want Prior under contract this year, and I want the team to have a team or mutual option for 09. He's not going to give us that, so trade him and keep the $2.8M free to make some moves. There is no reason to put this much time and effort into this guy right now. Keep him under contract. When he starts pitching, if he shows anything at all, you'll be able to trade him for something more valuable than the Rob Mackowiak kind of guy you could buy for $2.8. Or, maybe he'll help you in the rotation down the stretch.
  20. If the Cubs can support a payroll like that, I have a message for Jim Hendry. Tender a contract offer to Mark Prior!
