  1. He's not at all underrated by you, toonster, but I think Dallas Beeler is too often overlooked.
  2. Dempster is $15.5 because of a contract restructuring. Samardzija is a lot more than $0.475. $2.7-ish. Don't forget Kerry Wood at $3. Cubs paid Carlos Silva $2 this offseason. Not sure if you want to count that.
  3. If anything, tonight's events may make it less likely for the Jays to pony up. Their big chance for 2012 was for the Yankees to look weak. The Red Sox are a non-factor. They don't have what it takes to get Garza.
  4. 41. I'm guessing either Marcos Mateo (injured, out of options) or Alberto Cabrera (poor performance) get removed for Kerry.
  5. I doubt Garza would sign this, but I'd like to see a five year extension with two vesting option years potentially taking him through his age 34 season. 2012 - $9 2013 - $12 2014 - $14 2015 - $14 2016 - $14 2017 - $14 vesting option based on IP combined in 2015 and 2016 2018 - $14 vesting option based on IP combined in 2016 and 2017 Full no-trade clause through 2014. Limited no-trade protection for 2015 and 2016. No no-trade protection for 2017 and 2018. That's $63/5 guaranteed. Potentially $91/7.
  6. Nineteen pages and we can't get the spelling of his first name correct in the thread title?
  7. Starlin Peralta and Luis Liria?
  8. Let's get him up to an average of .360/.500 and have him do that for the next twelve years.
  9. FINALLY, someone who can show Yadier Molina how to play defense.
  10. toonster, just curious - if, for whatever reason, the Tigers took both Turner and Castellanos off the table, would you trade Garza for all three of the lefties - Smyly/Crosby/Oliver? Or is there not enough of a "sure thing" there for you?
  11. http://www.csnchicago.com/blog/cubs-talk/post/Kaplan-Woods-time-with-Cubs-appears-all-?blockID=628204&feedID=619
  12. Wow. If that's it, great freaking deal. I approve. Wait - where's the no trade clause? Where's the player option? This is disappointing.
  13. I'm not the best for this, but everything out there suggests that if he hits his ceiling, he could be a dominant hitter with a plus contact ability and plus power. Of course, it's the exception that hits the ceiling. It's early for comparisons, but maybe an Aramis Ramirez type hitter.
  14. Which would get them a top 10 draft pick. This was a very peculiar post. Almost as if it were written by two people who disagreed with one another.
  15. It is possible they are close to making another trade and need to wait for that to happen in order to clear the 40 man spot. Otherwise there are no obvious guys that can be dropped unless they try to put someone like Casey Coleman through waivers. Not sure how much interest there were would be in him and whether Theo and Jed would even care if he was claimed. Could they remove Jeff Bianchi? He was claimed on waivers from KC so does he have to stay on the 40 man roster? They got him through the rule 5 draft so he has to stay not only on the 40, but also the 25 or they have to send him back. No, they didn't. They got him on waivers. He's just like any other Cub minor leaguer on the 40-man roster (Lake, Vitters, Clevenger, etc.).
  16. I want Wood signed to a Tim Wakefield type contract. A never-ending series of club options at $2.5 with $0.5 in incentive money - $0.25 based on games finished and $0.25 based on appearances.
  17. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the part that it there are still rumors about adding Headley. To me, that is as interesting (if not more interesting) than dumping Soriano. Would Stewart become a bat off the bench in that case? I suppose he could be spun off to another team, as well. LOL. Check the date on that article.
  18. Jeff Bianchi has never played in the major leagues.
  19. Did Garza get traded and everyone missed it? Yes, and traded for nothing.
  20. bay was in his age 30 season, heading into his most expensive arbitration year and only under their control for another year. and explain who these nebulous "few prospects" are that would turn volstad into morrison. Brett Jackson, Javier Baez, and Trey McNutt.
  21. I wonder if the Yankees would be interested in parting with Montero if they didn't have to part with either Banuelos or Betances. Honestly, I don't care much for either of them. Montero, Bichette, and Phelps or Warren.
