  1. According to Hoops (I think), Anaheim is one of the teams supposedly interested in Patterson. I'm going to guess that he'll wind up traded for either Finley plus cash or Erstad plus cash. There may be a prospect included on each side. It will be a sad end to the Corey Patterson era.
  2. May be Young will pan out and may be he won't, but the Sox traded from a position of strength (or at least depth) to once again upgrade their rotation with a proven SP who is, at worst, a no. 2 in any rotation in the game. I think the Sox done good. This also allows Williams to spin off one of the other SPs to improve his offense. He is? He had a terrible second half in NY and picthed in a launching pad in AZ last year. IMO, its an abberation and he is still a very good pitcher. Peculiar that he was even worse AWAY from the BOB last season.

  4. Top, top prospect CF Chris Young is the key to this deal. Fine trade for Arizona.
  5. In assessing their relative value, one must consider that Ethier has three option years remaining, while Pinto has only one.
  6. Trade Felix Pie instead of Jerome Williams? "Kidding, he must be," said Yoda.
  7. They can have Patterson, Williams, Hill, Novoa and EITHER Cedeno OR Guzman. Not both.
  8. No truth to the rumor that Purpura called Ausmus a "quality, quality guy".
  9. Hopefully, this will open the Mariners up to the possibility of trading Ibanez. The article indicates the Mariners are frustrated in their attempts to obtain pitching. I wonder if they would consider a deal built around Williams for Ibanez? Even if they sign Everett, trading Ibanez would leave them short a LF. They'd have Reed/Everett/Ichiro, if they wanted to deal Ibanez. Who's the DH?
  10. What OF did he specifically miss out on? Magglio!

  12. In the unfortunate circumstance of the Cubs acquiring Jacque Jones, he needs to be kept away from all LHP. I mean like fewer than 10 PA versus LHP all season.
  13. Plenty of chance. You definitely do not know that the Cubs will keep Hendry if next season is another disappointment. Zero chance. What is it that you know and we don't? Why would Hendry be fired? Not 'why should he", but 'why would he'? Two out of his three years, the team has been competitive. One year, the team nearly made it to the World Series. Wrigley Field is full and the team makes boatloads of money. Beyond that, a GM generally gets to fire at least one manager. Hendry doesn't go until sometime after Baker goes.

  15. Totally, thoroughly, agree. If Patterson happened to catch fire....Murton, Pierre, Patterson.....would be fun to watch. I know thats a big IF.....but it would be better than watching Jones out there. Id rather give Corey a shot. Corey is 4 years younger and makes half of much. Jockstrap would not be much of an improvement. Plus, we don't have to trade for him. I think the answer is pretty clear. Why do we have to trade for Jones?
  16. I would rather sign Jacque Jones than trade Jerome Williams AND Michael Wuertz for Brad Wilkerson.
  17. Enjoy the holidays Jim, it'll be your last as GM of the Cubs. Zero chance.
  18. The Cubs will non-tender him Very little chance of that, IMO. If I'm wrong, I'll come back on here and face the music.
  19. Why would you put the worst arm in RF where it would hurt you the most?
  20. Vance, one thing that might be in our favor is that Seattle is one of the other suitors for Huff. Assuming that Seattle signs Crazy Carl (as has been rumored), if they were to acquire Huff, they wouldn't have any room for Ibanez. That could open things up for Ibanez to the Cubs.
  21. Bruce Miles - Is there anything to this Vidro business about which your colleague writes, or is it just Rozner being Rozner?
  22. I'll be rather surprised if Kerry Wood is not a Cub in 2007.
