  1. His bat will come down to earth a bit (it couldn't possibly not), but he still will be one of the better hitters in the game. But the marginal loss in his offense will be more than made up with costing his team less runs on defense and also not having to be pulled out of every game they have the lead in for a defensive replacement.
  2. Buccholz and Blanton are the types of players you should want. They are cheap with upside (Buccholz if he plays, Blanton if he gets traded). Slightly above replacement level guys who don't really have upside like Hammer, Ankiel, and OCab are absolutely not the type of guys you should be going after. You can do better for Beckett.
  3. And I just got turned down on this offer. I was going to give up Berkman for the last pick in the 9th round(first 5 rounds are keepers)...the guy is keeping Frenchy instead. Owners in my league are so [expletive].
  4. I wouldn't take any of those players in the first 12 rounds of a draft. Are there financial reasons involved?
  5. According to The Book... Run value of a HR= 1.397 Run value of a K=-.301 Run value of a non-intentional BB=.323 So, lets say the players get 5 PAs HR guy=.193 BB guy=1.615 Outs are important.
  6. Itd be awesome if our starters played 162 games. Well, except at SS.
  7. Last year we were 100 runs away from the top 5, 50 away from the Brewers, and 30 away from cinci. Just for reference.
  8. Well, it looks like that guy isn't going to pull off the Hart trade so I've swooped in. After much back and forth he proposed (first 5 rounds are keeper rounds) Hart, 8th round, 10th round for Manny, Bedard, 24th and 25th round. I came back with upping the 8th and 10th to 7th and 9th. So I'm sure we'll come to an agreement soon. Funny part is that this whole thing was me trying to trade one guy I was going to keep and players I wasn't going to keep to improve my team. I was never planning on keeping Manny and Bedard!!! I guess now I'm going to chose Hart and throw Berkman back into the draft. Beckett's back has me worried, but not that worried.
  9. I really really really like their players. I also think Gord Ash is one of the best FO guys in baseball. Conversely, they have one of the worst managers. I want them to lose every game, but I definitely don't hate them.
  10. Sun shines on a dog's behind once in a blue moon. You're referencing the whitesox winning the WS, right?
  11. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-080309-white-sox-rick-morrissey,1,4959285.column Hi-effen-larious
  12. Then there is something seriously wrong with your sensors. Seriously, that was about as blatant as it gets. I mean, he said he literally wipes his ass with moneyball.
  13. Definitely drop Accardo, Howry, and Baldelli and pick up Hughes.
  14. Is it just me or did it seem as though Patterson is a more than adequate defender after watching todays game. Its just one game and all, but everyone was making it sound like he was a complete hack out there.
  15. They were going to go with Nomar anyway.
  16. Ibanez is replacement but I think Hamilton is going to have a pretty huge year as long as the stays healthy. Hes a good sleeper.
  17. Agreed. 3b is pretty darn deep. The deal is slightly better for the top guy until the last players. Ibanez is replacement level, Hill is most definitely much better than replacement level.
  18. I would consider Soto and Towles more than decent options...as in better than Jojima decent options.
  19. What do you define as decent options?
  20. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=7188 Gpldstein gives us the 16th in organization rankings.
  21. There is a form of a salary cap, any team that goes over $120 mill (and I know the Cubs are safe for now) has to pay a Luxury Tax. So you have to cognizant of that fact. And even if there wasn't a salary cap doesn't mean you should "spend, spend, spend" dang the consequences. It's not HOW MUCH you spend, it's HOW you spend it. The luxury tax limit is $155 million in 2008. So no, its not a concern at all.
  22. Eyre is concerned about his linens and housewares...thats hilarious.
  23. Using runs as a way to value steals is just about the most bassackwards thing I've ever heard
