  1. I just dont undertand how such a smart organization would resign Furcal with Betemit on the roster at the expense (maybe not this year but definitely next year with his arbi raises) of Giles. If Furcal resigns what happens with Marte, does he waste away on the bench? Repeat at Richmond? Could he play second if they dish Giles?
  2. Hampton is out for the season with TJS. It will be covered by insurance so that will help somewhat. Not necessarily, very few insurance agencies will insure pitchers contracts over 3 or 4 years due to the risk. If they did get an agency to underwrite it, trust me they either paid insane premiums or had low maximums. Theres no way the Braves arent going to eat at least a vast majority of that contract.
  3. Also no one has mentioned that signing Damon for 5 years means Pie is blocked and wed have to either move one to a corner or try to dish one of them.
  4. No to Wagner, but I'd pay that or even a bit more for BJ Ryan over Dempster. Save totals don't tell the whole story. Remember, Alfonseca once racked up 45 in a season. As a closer, Dempster posted a 1.85 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 8.17 k/9 and .218 BAA to go with his league leading .943 save percentage. There was nothing about Dempster's performance to indicate he will be anything but good. Injuries are really the primary concern. Or a return to control problems that have plagued most of his career. His BB/IP rate as a reliever this year are not all that different than the rest of his career.
  5. Its done by the Elias Sports Bureau and is based on the past two years of production so neifis horrible year last year will count against him. My guess is Walker is the only one and hes much more valuable than any compensation picks. But on the other hand that means that Burnitz actually might net us something decent. He had a coors aided monster year in 2004. With the poor FA class, heck he could be a type A.
  6. Better yet, some one put together an ex-Indians team. The ex-Indians would beat: C - Hernandez 1B - Giambi 2B - 3B - SS - Tejada OF - Damon OF - Dye OF - SP - Hudson SP - Mulder SP - SP - SP - RP - Foulke RP - I'm too busy to fill in the blanks, but that's a serious start to a great MLB team. Ugh, I wanted some one else to do the heavy lifting. I'll start it out for the indians. C - 1B - Sexson 2B - Kent 3B - Branyon SS - Vizquel OF - Giles OF - Manny OF - Milton Bradley DH - Casey, Thome SP - Colon SP - Jaret Wright SP - SP - SP - RP - Mesa RP - Kline RP - Taverez RP - Mercker RP - Baez

  8. I hope that the Dempster signing is a sign of Hendrys attitude this offseason.
  9. we will have to wait a few more years for andy but im sure we will be talking about him in the playoffs eventually.
  10. fixed...adam
  11. How can you type and play video games at the same time? If were going to get an outfielder from a Florida basebally team in a trade, I'd much rather it be Miguel Cabrera than Aubrey Huff.
  12. I don't think that's the way you have to look at it. The way to look at it is would I rather: Nomar 3b Furcal SS Beltran CF or would I rather have Aramis 3b Furcal SS Preston Wilson CF Beltran could probably use a change of scenery about now. Bad move by the Mets. They still have Cameron, so they could put Floyd in LF and Drew in RF. Beltran is a much better player than his 2004 season. He's what we hoped Corey Patterson would become. It's not a deal that is likely to happen, but I would make that trade. One problem with your scenario is Nomar is a health risk, so who is your sub? The 2nd problem that I see is that Beltran is a wonderful player with one of the worst contracts in the history of sports. I don't want that albatross on the Cubs future spending. Beltrans contract is not that bad at all. Its set up with 22M deferred money at 1.7175% interest which reduces the present value of his contract significantly. Jeez, Id love to get him just so the cubs can get an ocular enhancer machine, thats the only way corey is going to get fixed.
  13. Everything that Ive read paints him not as a cancer but vocally outspoken about his frustrations playing on a team that doesnt have a chance to win with management that is sometimes quite idiotic.
  14. By the way, the yanks are picking up 3M per of Javys contract so whoever would pick him up would only be on the hook for 8.5 and 9.5. Not bad at all.
  15. I still think Huff has peaked and his numbers are going to continue to go south. Add to that he can't play defense well and I see it as a bad move. If it wasn't for the fact that the new owner is planning on spending more, I would have said that this is the offseason that Tampa Bay would shop Julio Lugo, who arguably might be a better bargain that Furcal. Who would argue with that? I think moreso than spending more the new ownership/management is going to be all about the youth, which would mean they might dish lugo. Maybe not in the offseason, but definitely by midseason.

If it wasn't for the fact that the new owner is planning on spending more, I would have said that this is the offseason that Tampa Bay would shop Julio Lugo, who arguably might be a better bargain that Furcal. This is one area that Jim Hendry should keep close eyes and ears on. From all indications, Huff is lazy and a cancer in the clubhouse. Best to stay clear. I will. I hope Mr. Hendry does too! Cuse, ive never really understood your hatred for Huff. What makes you think he will be 2005 Huff and not 2002-2004 Huff? Reports are that he and management have had quite a few issues with the way theyve run the team and that he has not been happy at all losing in Tampa Bay. I can imagine that its pretty difficult being so motivated to play the game when you know you are going to lose
  17. Yes, the Braves are in quite a pickle, thats why they couldnt do anything in the market last year to solve their barren OF...worked out for them though :D Heres their big salaries for 2006 Chipper: 17M +1.2M signing bonus w/ 2M of that deferred Andruw: 13M + .5M signing bonus Hampton: 13.5M Smoltz: 8M + 2M signing bonus Hudson: 6M + 2.5M signing bonus So with bonuses its more like 62M! They'd be idiots to try to keep furcal and trade giles, especially with betemit ready. And thats not an org filled with idiots.
  18. That would be my primary problem with the Cubs trying to acquire Crawford. He'll just be Corey Patterson redux in Chicago, imo. Also, TB is under new ownership now. I have a feeling that they will increase salaries somewhat, but what direction this team will look to take is anyone's guess. It wouldn't surprise me if they relocated to somewhere like Vegas or the Carolinas when all is said and done. I have a feeling that Huff will still command a decent price in terms of a trade. If he's attainable for a decent price, I wouldn't be opposed to the Cubs bringing him in. However, I've been on this Jonny Gomes bender lately and would absolutely love to have him patroling LF next season. Huff's decent price has gone down substantially from last year. Considering hes a guy coming off about as tremendously horrible a year can get and being paid 6.75M. Id love to take a flyer on him (as I was completely all over him last year as well). Heck, I like him even more this year because of how much hes going to cost (in terms of players). I especially like that he could spell ARAM, should he need some more rest or God forbid, go down for an extended period of time. Im in the camp that if DLee wants to play 158 games I say let him pay. He still did put up 1000 OPS in Sept.
  19. He and Hughs would be quite the combo. Hes done as a GM for the rest of his life. Id like him to shake things up in an org that has regressed in the past few years.
  20. What, is steve phillips running the mets again? This is insanely stupid, but I wonder if theres ever been a team with their 1, 2, 3 hitters each with 40 stolen bases?
  21. I'm beginning to think that that is what is going to happen too. Damon will go to the Yankees or Angels. Beltran will become Boston's CF. Cliff Floyd coming here. So Hoops, 3 minutes after you said we'd be going for a RF or CF, you say Cliff Floyd is coming here?
  22. By the way this totally is not going to happen, we are just playing around.
  23. Sethuel and UM, this might be a good multi-person operation. I would definitely be in for some late night covert operations. As for an auction, i dont know how much Tim would be happy with stolen property being sold here.
  24. Isn't that how the White Sox and Astros got to the post-season? Timely hitting? How does somebody go out and acquire timely hitting in the offseason? Houston and White Sox didn't make it to the playoffs off timely hitting, they made it on unbelievable pitching. They better not waste time, focus and money thinking they can magically solve the clutch dilemna. Just get production Jimbo, let the romanticists worry about the myths you have no control over. Timely hitting is aquired when you buy each player a Rolex, it's just that simple. If you hear Hendry say after a trade or signing: "He hit XXX with runners in scoring position" is your head going to explode? I just have this wierd feeling that it's coming soon to a park you love. It still wouldn't be nearly as bad as the line, "He hit the 4th most home runs of anyone with his number of strikeouts or more." Hey, we havent declined his 7M option yet...
  25. This is what I want Stays Nomar Walker Murton Cedeno Goes Patterson (trade) Macias Neifi Burnitz Rusch (trade if picks up option) Up Fontenot Greive
