If we were to get Giles, what would the Braves want back? Would they want Walker? Would they rather go cheap with Marte and Betemit and second and third? If they dont want Walker then we need to flip him to a team who needs a second baseman either for something to go to the braves or for bullpen help. Teams that need second basemen: Twins (is the FO different from the guys who ruined Walker's career from giving him the unfair defensively incompetent stigma) Mets I cant really think of anyone else.

They just showed a clip from a molina AB that the ump purposefully waited until AJ tagged molina on a dropped third strike before pumping his fist.

One thing I read on their board was that Paul tossed the ball to the mound before the out call was made. Did anyone notice that? Either way, I personally did not see an angle that showed the ball hit the ground. And shouldn't that be irrelevant since he was called out? I guess this confuses me a bit. I still just don't understand why he signaled him out, then just let him take first. I think the ump was as confused as the Angels were. Not according to the Angels or Dodgers radio stations. They said Paul saw Eddings do the fist thing to acknowledge an out and then he rolled the ball to the mound. I just tivoed it and step played it and they really did it at the same time. Regardless, Paul saw nothing as he never looked back at Eddings. I dont believe that there was nothing verbal. There was nothing verbal - both Eddings and Paul admitted to it. Didnt mean it like that, meant it like, its just unbelievable that there was nothing verbal.

They are cocky and arrogant because they celebrated winning a playoff game? AJ even said in his interview he didnt know if it hit and wasnt cocky about it at all he just gave Crede credit for getting the hit. I know you guys hate the White Sox and its understandable but there was nothing arrogant about what AJ did. I'm guessing if this happened to "Cardinal Nation" the outcry would be immense as well. This is completely mild by comparison if this had happened to the Cubs instead of the Angels. Im guessing the vast majority of the fans did not know it was such a horrible call (except for the ones I text messaged :D ). The whitesox players probably had a better idea but still most of them took the "better lucky than good" approach after the game and they did take advantage of the situation ala marlins in 2003.

Giles + Draft pick compensation + 7M (difference between their salaries) > Furcal + trade return for Giles. fixed, remember we are talking about an extremely cash strapped org here. I guess it all depends on who you get for Giles, but for the money they would save they could pick up a pretty good pitcher and another arm for the pen, both areas that need addressing. Unless they can fix both of those cheaply in a Giles trade, I dont see it making them a better ball club. JeffH was talking about talent level, which to me is indpendent of salary implications(of course excepting the one that forces them to choose between Furcal and Giles). I see what you are saying but i dont think you can determine that without answer, who the braves could get for giles, and who would pick up furcal (bottom 15 team or not) as well as the other FAs that team picks up to see what kind of draft picks the braves would get for him. But a first and sandwich pick could bring you as much talent (albeit prospects) as giles could net you in a trade. And I think speaking independent of dollars is pretty useless anyway for 90% of organizations anyway, especially in the braves case.

I am entrenched in the Bradley camp. I think we could take on Odalis and him, sign nomar, giles and a set up man and call it an offseason. However there are other options out there such as Jason Michaels. IMO JHJR is a better idea than Lofton or Pierre.

He disclosed them prior to contract talks, and the result was a reduced bonus, but Tim could sleep soundly at night. Yes, I believe he actually gave money back, or countered a much higher offer with the 750K.

IMO Gordon is a ticking timebomb, I mean how long can a guy in his late 30s get abused so badly before he blows up? Im all for bringing in a top set up man and Gordon has a big upside, but theres the chance of us getting nothing. Id rather go more safe with an Indian as some one else mentioned or some one a bit younger yet experienced. And as others have said, thats where I'd stop. I'd fill the rest with youngsters, we have plenty that have just as good a chance as any other guy that wed pay a million bucks for.

Another tough question is what are they going to do behind the plate? Do they stick with Estrada, hope he stays healthy and repeats his 2004 and then dish him, or keep him and dish McCann? Do they start playing McCann more? Thats a tough call.

Perhaps the talk of re-signing Furcal is just PR stuff. With Marte and Betemit waiting in the wings, one of the IF has to go. I'd hope so well I dont hope so since I dont want Hendry signing furcal. If Im the braves I go with Marte, Betemit, Giles, Laroche/franco across the infield and Jones, Jones, Francoeur/Johnson/Langerhans in the OF. Use the money you would have spent on a top set up man and a #4 starter. They might not necessarily win next year (how many times are we going to say this?) but the only way this team can stay competitive now and in the future is to not block their top prospects with overrated major leaguers with bloated long term contracts.
